That's a great title. I've been sitting here grinning the whole time. Thank you for this amazing video ! Orcas are such incredible animals, it seems like they like people too. Shame on us for ever having hurt them and keeping them enslaved in marine parks. No one has a right to " own" these magnificent creatures. I'm in awe knowing that we share DNA with Orcas and every single living thing on Earth. That truth is more remarkable ,awe inspiring ,and beautiful than any man made god stories. What an amazing world we live in.

The Orca's intelligence gives it a natural curiosity. They understand that people don't really belong in the water so they come and check what's going on, maybe even try to grasp on how to communicate with what clearly are equally intelligent creatures to them. Or maybe they see us as a bit dumb for getting on and in the water as things that swim very poorly. Who knows. Fascinating creatures nevertheless.

It’s always has fascinated me that they are so tolerant and respectful of humans in the wild? King of the sea could easily hurt or eat anything it wants. How do they know? Dumb fish bite all the time but orcas seem aware that we really shouldn’t be messed with. It would be really crazy to be able to communicate with a wind orca and or dolphin. I know the us military has done extensive work on this. There dolphin team (or teams) is amazing and flown all over the world to do crazy things. I’m sure they are the closest to truly communicating.

Orcas are the largest members of the dolphin family, which explains their curiosity & their intelligence - something a lot of people don’t know surprisingly. I would absolutely LOVE to free swim w a pod, although preferably in warmer, more transparent waters (for obvious reasons) … but that will have to happen in my “next life”, since I’m a quadriplegic in this one. However, I’m perfectly satisfied w seeing all that makes them so incredible, from a boat (or a video)! My greatest hope is to get to see the wild albino orca, in person someday! Such majestic animals … it’s a sin that people can get so fixated on species that are alien, that they don’t appreciate the ones we know, which are all too often struggling for survival now!

It never ever ceases to amaze me how orcas never attack humans in the wild. They seem to go out of their way not to hurt humans, like dolphins. How did they all get the memo on this? I can see why the native Alaskan tribes believed that man had signed a contract with the "sea demons" that gave them safe passage in the seas.

Most killer whales people encounter are fish eaters (sharks and ray fish in New Zealand’s case) - humans simply aren’t on the menu.
The transient orca that eat mammals tend to live in more isolated places.
I’ll also point out that killer whales are stupidly successful hunters and picky eaters so humans would only ever be on the menu for a desperate killer whale.

They are intelligent, and so they know we would wipe them out if they give us the slightest reason. There is an Orca in captivity that has killed at least three people, because it doesn't give a F. I would bet a fortune that if it was set free it would stop doing that, because it is smart enough to know that would cause a very different reaction outside of captivity.

Orcas have been my favorite animals since I was just a little kid. I’m 31 now and still just as in love with them.
Orcas rarely are aggressive towards humans. Not only do they not see us as food (we’re honestly a tough meal) but I also think there is an understanding of us they have and we don’t know about. They always seem to be aware of what we are no matter where and when they run into us.
That being said…..there is no way I’m getting in the water with one. They’re extremely powerful animals. Even just some rough play could be lethal. They’re carnivore/ambush predators. They’re the apex predator of the ocean.

I haven't seen any footage of them bothering a regular boat, such as an 18ft Sea-Ray regular boat, with an outboard motor, or larger vessels. They're so smart they know the difference between a sailboat, and recreational boat. They're attacking boats in Portugal, Europe, and other countries on a regular basis. They're either playing, or have been hurt by a Sailboat rudder. I don't know? But I do know they've never put a scratch on a human. Except for 4 people in captivity only. And the way they were treated, punished, put in a holding tank 20 X 20. I despise SeaWorld, especially after they were exposed. Now at least they're protected in the USA🐳 🌊 ⛵

Incredible the way they interact with us. I mean bobbing their heads up around that swimmer was something else. what an experience that must have been for that swimmer. remember that these are the TOP predators on the planet but never see us as prey. I would like to know WHY that is. Around New Zealand those pods are very familiar with us and even attempt to feed US pieces of sting ray! Because thats what they do with the sick and old. There's something about these animals that we do not quite understand.

    • @nurseratchet555

I think the Maori traditionally hunted with them didn't they? The Aboriginal people across the ditch certainly did. Old Aboriginal man would light 2 fires, then limp back & forward between them to make the orcas feel sorry for him & they would respond by going & rounding up baleen whales & bringing them into the bay for the humans to spear & make dead, then humans would leave the carcasses in the water overnight, for the whales to take their share, the tongue, before the humans could then harvest their share of the hunt. Feeding humans bits of sting ray fits REALLY well with those legends & what the old men would do in Australia, there's probably similar history there with Maoris :)

@@captaindrake5253 If I'm not mistaken, this is your first video that I've watched (now) and I want to give you a big shout out for it
      - that you have named the original filmmaker or channel at the bottom left of each clip included (as, i.m.o., every TH-camr should do)
      - that you show the individual clips in great detail (not just a few seconds like so many other TH-camrs)
      - and that you don't spoil the clips with annoying music, but only accompany your short, helpful explanations with pleasant, quiet music and otherwise leave the original sound in.
Thank you for this good work and for your interesting videos! 👍

Those things are just 'playing nice' because they remember whaling.
*Because* they remember whaling I believe that they're _plotting against us._
They can share their history through language; their hunting demonstrates planning and coordination; they have everything they need in order to plot revenge.

I agree. They are both terrifying and beautiful at the same time. I used to be unbelievably afraid of them (Had a creepy experience on my 7th birthday at Sea World) and never saw them the same again.
Now that I’m older, I’ve embraced that fear and turned it into a way to understand where the fear came from and it’s lead me to respect them…but from afar. 😂
