      Always did my head in that one. I'm pretty sure he didn't think of it as a shifty, though, that was just the only way he could figure out how to get a fakie ollie over something like that. I think he does the same thing over a police barrier in one of the Plan B vids, right?

    This was 1991 so you can't even say "if you skated in the 90s" this video was sick. I started skating in the 80s and that was still my reference when I saw this video. This was EARLY nineties and no one was killing it like Sheffey. When it dropped, this was mind blowing. Look at the deck he was riding, it's a brick with no nose. That's still an 80s board for all practical purposes. They weren't even designed to do modern street tricks yet, but he was backside tail sliding full sized picnic tables. Back then power and style were more important than being technical. The guy was fearless and broke new ground. Mad respect. Anyone saying 'where are the flip tricks' probably has never landed a trick going more than 2 MPH and will never understand.

      What I can't stand is the mindset that today's young skaters seem to all possess, Everything is about who is better or the best. They say lame ass shit... like... he sucks, he didn't do one single switch bigflip or nollie blah blah whatever. It has become to many, all about being the best and talking shit about guys that are on different levels.... I don't know, for me, a early 40's- 80's skater, it's about locking onto a trick and overcoming the fear involved with whatever the trick may be and commiting anyway, over and over. The feeling of getting it and sticking it, is indescribable and also a total mental release from all the bullshit you're dealing with in your life, Like Lance said, it can't all be about just being good.

      @1992bta 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      first sentence doesnt even make sense, you can absolutely say if you skated in the 90's this video was sick. Doesnt matter when you skated, this video is sick lol.
      If you wanna get mad at kids for not appreciating old school skating, then they can get mad at you for not appreciating how much skateboarding has progressed. Theres a new standard for good skating, sorry but thats how it works. And thats not just skateboarding, thats the entirety of life. Were human beings and advancement is what we do.
      doesnt change the fact that this video is legendary.

    • @rzende
      @rzende 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1992bta that's not skateboarding. Style means for that, there's no standard. Sean and Natas killed with their video parts, doesn't means anyone can't have them style and talent today.
      the rad mad crazy style is making a huge comeback, check out erick winkowski and auby taylor, fresh

      On today's boards, that bs 180 would be considered a monumental feat of athleticism. On his equipment, it's borderline super human. It's right up there with Kien Lieu's ollie over the fence from Hokus Pokus.

      That's debatable. Don't get me wrong, I love Sheffey so much, but in my opinion, Reynolds is damn close with his one. But even if he or someone else did a better one, that doesn't change the fact that Sheffey did this in 1991, which is fucking insane. And he even did it with a totally different board which was not designed to go that high. Legend.

    Granted, most people are Sheffey fans if they grew up back then or have any sense of how nuts this was for it's time. I was fucking 1 when this video dropped and even at the age of 13 or so when kids haven't yet learned to appreciate skating that old I still thought he was gnarly. In true Sergio Leone fashion. .. once upon a time (in the southwest of Cornwall uk) this section of insanity on a copied vhd 180 was the absolute mental vision of what was going to come. nothing else before prepared us for this,it's a rainy day can't skate let's watch skate vids. start with speed freaks? May be both h streets even after watching them for years still sick. i think i even had blockhead adventures in cheese on the same cassette. and i still think that is sick as fuck today watchable. this bad boy was like fuck the rain not staying inside no more.The op ivy sound track on top of legends like donger and co. Owning picnic tables and stairs and then the songs....porca puttana. A solldiers story.
    my mum said you be careful out there. . brush your teeth and comb your hair...
    boy child.... he's just a boy
    .. i don't wish today's skaters were more like us back on the days. .. i wish the reality of humanity was more like back in these days. i can't skate no more but if I could id be backside 180 oliieing over anything I could find. that rail slam ender still to this day Is the most hardcore comiting clip I ever saw. Its broken back business.
    I'll never express in words the feeling I had in the early 90s from this vid and I'm sure this comment will be a badly punctuated rant. but I'm happy that a video I haven't watched in probably 25 years still invoked me to spill my guts like this because it changed my actual chemical thought process in a way nothing has since except video days. I don't need to mention skateboarding has gone Bat shit mental since but at this moment in time this was out there
