I love how confident and tall Sharon stands nowadays. She's so pretty it awesome to see how all the positive reactions to her work have helped her get into her element.
Sharon's an amazing vocalist. Her voice and her music seem so natural. She's one of those artists where you can love almost every song on the album and that's rare.
First heard SVE song "Serpents" and knew that I was hearing a superstar. Powerful songwriter, amazing singer and guitarist. She knows how to play the spaces...
I've been a fan of Sharon's since 2009, and I'm somehow just now finding out she was on Tiny Desk! Fun to hear these old songs, I remember being so blown away by "Epic" when it first came out after the much calmer "Because I was in Love".
Love her melodic sense! Great songwriting, and a very original sweet voice... Very glad to have finally found her music even if I'm a little late this time round...
Here for Sharon, but stopped to observe exactly how much more music and general stuff the shelves of the Tiny Desk Concerts gang gained over the years. History has come and gone and left it's mark here 🙌
When I first saw this in 2011 my very first impression was Oh man, a couple of folk wannabes from American or Georgetown or somewhere. Then I watched and listened to the simple but compelling music and lyrics and I fell in love what she brings to this. Now its 2017 and I'm revisiting it as I have on and off for years and finding even more. One of your best finds NPR music.
Been coming here from time to time for many years. The first time i ever watched this, it was 2012ish, i was smacked out of my mind on some china white...words cant express what her music made me feel that night.
I wasn’t kidding when I said I had fallen in love. I discovered this video a few days ago and it’s all I’ve been able to think about or listen to since.. look how beautiful she is, the way her arms move while she’s playing.. I have the biggest crush on Sharon, I want to be her girl.. I’m all messed up now
I too have fallen. I only discovered her two days ago and haven't stopped. I almost never like a song the first time I hear it, but 3 seconds into every one of her songs I'm already in love. All my life I don't think any other artist or song has made me feel so much, she is so raw and real, you can hear and feel the emotion... it's like my heart is doing somersaults and weeping at the same time. I feel young again. Sharon, where have you been all my life?
Stop with your homosexual rebellion against God, man, & nature. Get it sorted! Seek deliverance through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Wake up to find out what is going on!!
I watch this video over and over because it means so much to me. Thank you Sharon, you have shaped my life and you have been a soundtrack to my emotions for a long time. Thank you for sharing your soul (I know you won't read this, damn! But this is what I would say :) )
She opened up for my band once in Indy around in 2010. She was very sweet to talk to, and of course her performance was powerful and very felt. I was lucky to buy her last vinyl she was carrying with her. I wish I would have had her sign it. Last year I was blown away to hear her song "Serpents" on Walking Dead. Great tune, check it out. My favorite song by her is still "For you", the last song on this vid, so damn good!
Everyone asks me if I've heard of this band that band or this band and I'm like no no no no...I'm completely stuck on Sharon, The National and Beirut and some other bands around them. I'm so happy I found this extended band family so to speak. They're all awesome. Sharon is beautiful in every way.
I just stumbled across this and I am so glad. This is some of the most beautiful songwriting Ive heard in years. I absolutely love it. Thanks Sharon Van Etten and friend, youve made my year.
great. stumbled upon this and love it. The people who think this is "bland" or 'Missing something" it's just what music sounds like without auto-tune and drum machines
I agree with you on the auto tune/over produced stuff. They sing well, with great feeling. Their voices are thin and weak which makes it a bit bland. Good songs and good musicians to be sure.
I've only just discovered Sharon Van Etten, here in England - so apologies for that, it can be quiet here in the Old Country - via a song called Dry, which I believe is a new one. I have subsequently bought her latest album and look forward to the next one keenly. A fine and talented performer and writer and I've especially enjoyed these NPR recordings. I hope she performs here in England soon.
Hi Scott...4 yrs later you probably found out, but in case you didn't, it's Cat Martino. She's been collaborating with many artists like Sufjan Stevens, Sharon V E, The Shins, Son Lux...
@@liamros3562 Yes I did eventually get that, after establishing that she wasn't Stranger Cat, Cat Power, or Cat Stevens. 😆 I prefer the rawness of this to the polished stage presence Sharon has nowadays.
@@drpepperr Yeah me too I love minimalistic performances. Another one just as raw is Angel Olsen's tiny desk gig (jan 27 2014) How to play solo, 2/3 chords songs with minimal technique and move mountains.
@@drpepperrThese stripped-back raw videos highlight how F-ing great the songs are in simplest form. I kind of love how she has grown into an international headliner who rocks shows (Ya gotta make a quid after all!), and I reckon she's done well not to lose that authenticity and vulnerability as her fame has grown and as her songs/shows hit the mainstream over the years.
Hey, there! I know Sharon is way too related to Angel Olsen, but they definitely share many things in their artistry. By now you probably already heard of her. They´re both really great for me, anyways. Greetings.
I saw her on the “Wild Hearts Tour” with Angel Olsen and Julien Baker. It was in Minneapolis two years ago and all three were phenomenal! I would give anything to listen to her older music in an intimate setting though!!!
Why is everyone getting so up in arms about the backup singer? Nobody ever asks "Why the fuck is there an entire band behind Stephen Malkmus?" Anyway, these are some pretty solid tunes. I'm glad I discovered Tiny Desk.
God almighty. Sometimes you completely forget how staggeringly beautiful music can be - and then someone comes along to remind you.
10 years later and I still come back to listen!!

Very, VERY rare. Well said R.
Music like this can only be listened to alone. It takes the soul to a deep and private place.
Absolutely
First heard SVE song "Serpents" and knew that I was hearing a superstar. Powerful songwriter, amazing singer and guitarist. She knows how to play the spaces...
She's still killin it, but this is one of my favorite albums. So iconic.
Just blown away by Sharon's songwriting. Really become a fundamentally important artist for me - she speaks to something deep inside me.
'One Day' is just beautiful.
absoloutely brilliant !
Here for Sharon, but stopped to observe exactly how much more music and general stuff the shelves of the Tiny Desk Concerts gang gained over the years. History has come and gone and left it's mark here 🙌
Still one of the best NPR concerts. SVE is simply amazing.
She’s so shy and reserved in the beginning but her confidence and voice grow and you realize who Sharon is!
These are songs that are timeless.
When I first saw this in 2011 my very first impression was Oh man, a couple of folk wannabes from American or Georgetown or somewhere. I sometimes visit this performance by these two young women. Much love to the both of you!

I feel you! She's absolutely gorgeous, her spirit, her eyes! We're lost, ha ha
I too have fallen. I only discovered her two days ago and haven't stopped. I almost never like a song the first time I hear it, but 3 seconds into every one of her songs I'm already in love. Girls she is taken and also had a baby last year. Too late
Stop with your homosexual rebellion against God, man, & nature. Get it sorted! Seek deliverance through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Wake up to find out what is going on!!
I always come back to this whenever I'm sad
Save Yourself-all I can say is it puts me in a trance. Beautiful. Thank you for the gift of your art.
I agree. Her strumming style is hypnotic
I'm hooked. I first heard her the other day with J. Mascis on a John Denver cover called Prisoners. I can't stop listening now.
Unbelievable! I have this album and I still find myself in "shocked ecstasy" when listening to her music. We are all blessed with this talent.
absolute best version of "save yourself". i'm obsessed. can't even listen to the album version anymore....
I watch this video over and over because it means so much to me. Thank you Sharon, you have shaped my life and you have been a soundtrack to my emotions for a long time. Thank you for sharing your soul (I know you won't read this, damn! But this is what I would say :) )
I love the way Sharon and Cat sing with each other, so beautiful.
Perfect duet

M. Martin I am just captivated by "For You."
Always loved one day. She’s really come so far.
Peace Sign! Love Sharon and all her songs--Replayed this session over a dozen times -
I love how raw and unrefined these tiny desk concerts are.
Love her new song "come back"
Everyone asks me if I've heard of this band that band or this band and I'm like no no no no...I'm completely stuck on Sharon, The National and Beirut and some other bands around them. I'm so happy I found this extended band family so to speak. They're all awesome. Sharon is beautiful in every way.
Look up Basia Bulat’s NPR 🤯🤯🤯
Right on par😊
A cool spring morning, fresh air, and great music - Life is Good!
love your style - could hear you mile for mile - till my eyes become ears - Sharon, - love you thousand years

im ALWAYS a weepy and vulnerable mess when i listen to sharon van etten
She's so beautiful.
Simply Beautiful❤ . And I didn’t know SVEtten has a twin..what ?!
This is fun to watch in fast-forward mode 2️⃣⏩
She has a twin?! I must learn more!!
Another incredible Tiny Desk Sharon and backup singer you da bomb !!! Real musik ~
I don’t know why but One Day reminds me of a female version of Elvis. Anyway if he’s the King, she’s the fucking Queen. What an unbelievable artist.
I just stumbled across this and I am so glad. This is some of the most beautiful songwriting Ive heard in years. I absolutely love it. Thanks Sharon Van Etten and friend, youve made my year.
i had no idea tiny desk concert was so old
me either!!!
I remember when they moved the office from this to where they are now:)
Superb performance, I prefer her like this even to when she's with her band.
The excellent accompanist is Cat Martino.
Her name should be in the description. :(
Cat is amazing and this NPR is through the roof- but Sharon and Heather will always have my heart ❤️
great. stumbled upon this and love it. The people who think this is "bland" or 'Missing something" it's just what music sounds like without auto-tune and drum machines
I wish I could give your post a million thumbs up! :)
I agree with you on the auto tune/over produced stuff. They sing well, with great feeling. Their voices are thin and weak which makes it a bit bland. Good songs and good musicians to be sure.
John Lacy . Live long and prosper..
The harmony is perfect
My new fav female singer!
Beautiful! that One Day song is amazing.
For you is a great song. Man she is good
A piece of History right here
What a voice. What power. What emotion.
this shit is so raw and so fucking amazing..
Love it! She has a raw Earth appeal in her sound.
how have I never seen this before this is amazing
She has a newer one and it’s way different but still just as amazing!!!!
Wouw... their voices go really well together. They should definitely team up for an acoustic album!.
Epic is a masterpiece
Love "One Day"... great song/great groove...very cool video!
so good. so sincere and vulnerable, a truly great artist. bravo!
She is pure genius.
unexpectedly mesmerizing.
Sharon is fantastic!
i love these women---been finding some great music on Tiny Desk today.
Check out the Basia Bulat NPR. Mind blowing!
Also Other Lives is incredible ♥️
She seems really nice and her music is good. Thumbs up.

Thank you NPR
great harmonies here.
sean craine I know, right?
I love her music! :] So beautiful and deep.
@1:33 love the eyes...love the background singer so much the whole thing's great.
I'm really troubled that the other woman is not credited anywhere. Her harmonizing on Peace Signs is staggeringly good.

Her name is Cat Stevens
This is the best thing in 22
The song “one day” is fantastic
8:05
So beautiful!
Love you Sharon!
Simply love Sharon
What a breath of fresh air
Essa apresentação não tem nenhum defeito!
It's refreshing to hear a female artist with this style, i'm sick to death of all the other whispering women who all sound the same.
Well said, a true singer/songwriter. Amazing live.

Utterly sublime.

Instant fav :) npr + good music. Getting guitar tab now.
They sought of remind me of first aid kit. They perform in beautiful harmony don't they.
Cat Martino (aka Stranger Cat) backing her up, if I'm not mistaken.
she also works with Sufjan Stevens
Que lindo encontrése con algo asi luego de 12años
Love it :)
enamorado de esta mujer
These girls stepped out of the early 1970s. Reminds me of Carly Simon.
