One time a Jehovah witness stopped me outside my house and was like “do you want to save the earth?” And my dumb ass said ‘OH YEAH I recycle all the time!” She stopped, stared, and slowly pulled out a tablet to play a video of Jesus coming back from the grave. My brain short circuited.

I think that she maybe even was once part of the JW. She oddly knows a lot of things about them. Her Bible knowledge is also exceptional. Check out her "The popular girl does your make up propless" video. Also i seems that this is a subtle rant abou the JW community she was oppressed by.

Amazing. I’m just gonna leave a pride flag up. Oh, I’d you have a sign that says ‘apostates and other disfellowshipped welcome’ or ‘we do not allow Mormons/Jehovah witnesses to knock on this door’. Also- my mum showed genuine interest (not in joining but to see what the cult is about) once but told them to come back another day for a conversation and they never came back- but people have them knock constantly after telling them to leave them alone and I don’t know why this is.

@@HN-kr1nf he's not, but he did briefly try to get me join with him around 2012. I noped the eff outta there so quickly😂
Being a JW basically ruined his life. When he was 16, he didn't want to get baptized and his mom freaked out. She sent him from NY to MN live with his dad, who had recently been "dis fellowshipped" himself. His dad was scrambling to do all the things he needed to do to be let back into the JWs and thought that my ex would hurt his chances of getting back in, so he kicked him out. My exes mom was still so upset about my ex not wanting to get baptized that she flew from NY to MN to sign the papers to legally emancipate my ex. My ex basically went off the rails at that point, he felt unloved and unwanted.
His mom had never let him associate with "worldly kids", AKA non JW kids, so he had no social skills to make real friends or set healthy boundaries. He had no family to fall back on because they were crazy JWs. He had no work experience because his mom never let him have a job, because she was worried about all the worldly people he would come in contact with.
He fell in with a really bad crowd and started living in an abandoned building with some other unwanted kids and they all started doing drugs. He never really figured out how to get his shit straight for long periods of time, and refused any mental health services, which is why I kicked him out.

I grew up as JW (no longer one), and everything you're saying is accurate. My folks (and others) use to traumatize me about going to the meetings and field service, otherwise, Jehovah was going to murder me in Armageddon for not doing what I was told. When I started to have depression and questioned everything, they would threaten to kick me out of the house, knowing I don't have a car, a job, money to get my own place, and everyone I knew was also JWs (I had no friends outside of the organization because I wasn't allowed to befriend "worldly" people.).
One time at a family party, my grandma saw me with my goatee and told me if I don't cut it, Jehovah's angels are going to destroy me in Armageddon. I thought to myself:
"Really, grandma? Really? Out of all the evil things that are happening in this world, God is going to send his angels to murk me for having hair on my chinny chin chin? Really?"
Currently, I'm the black sheep in the family (some don't talk to me because I'm not going to the meetings. And I still live with my folks due to financial reasons.), and I love it. The elders did a "shepherding call" a few months ago to get me back to the meetings, but I'm not budging.
Unfortunately, I'm the only one who thinks outside of the box in my family. Being a JW also meant that you ignore secular education and politics, because "Jesus is our king" and we shouldn't concern ourselves with what the country/world is doing. (Smh.)
Sad, but It is what it is. I feel more mentally free and more connected with myself because I'm doing what I want and not what others tell me to do.

A good friend of mine was kicked out of the house at 17 cause his JW parents found out he was gay.
Initially a elder (? Like i don’t know the names, he was an important man in the community) told him he could stay if he got married to a woman (he basically hinted that he could keep on having sex with whoever he wanted, as long as he had a facade.. he also literally said that plenty of men in the community had done it) but he said no so yeet.
Gladly, a few months later his mom told everyone to fuck off cause she wasn’t abandoning her son, and welcomed him back in the house, and the community complied...

@@thomas4218 they believe in Jehovah as God and Jesus is his son. They don't believe in hell, and only 144,000 will go to heaven. After Armageddon there will be peace for 1,000 years and then god will let the devil loose on Earth again to see who's loyal. The good people who remain will inhabit the Earth forever. They don't celebrate anything at all. No lgbtq support. You can only be friends with, hang out with, and marry other witnesses. And if you decide you don't want to be apart of it anymore you get disfellowshipped, which means no one from the hall (their Church) is allowed to talk to you; not even your own family. It's kinda like an excommunication until you 'repent' and start following their beliefs again.

This hits too close to home, Angelica.
I was born into a JW family, I'm trying to slowly escape but I'm just preparing myself for the shunning that will happen. You must have a background with JWs as you know the doctrine and terms used in the bOrg.
Anyway thank you for making this and encouraging me to run away 😂

I got disfellowshipped 7 years ago. The shunning hurts at first, but I realized just because I don't want to follow all of their teachings doesn't make me a bad person. I'm not out kicking puppies. So if my parents and grandparents choose to let a religion tell them they can't associate with me then fine, that's their problem. If I'm only going to live once, I'll do it on my terms.

I'm an ex-Mormon. I used to knock on people's doors in San Diego. Ironically, I am convinced now, that the whole experience is a cult tactic that is not interested in actually converting anyone, because you don't, but to instead get the missionary to experience rejection. Young 19 year old kids can't really distinguish between getting rejected personally, and that it is their church that is actually being rejected, and not them, and this reinforces in your mind that all the nonbelievers are evil, because they are rejecting you. This pulls you deeper into the cult.
Likewise, I actually think that pickup artist guys on youtube, like Andrew Tate, actually work much the same way. They give guys really bad advice, that to a naïve guy, sounds like it should work, but instead makes the women feel disgusted at you when you try it in the real world, thus getting you rejected. This reinforces the misogyny that the guy is already getting fed by his so called dating goru, and thus reinforces his faith in the boss incel. He will now be more likely to send more money to the pickup artist/man's rights activist, accept his radical political views, and even start voting the way the guy tells him to vote, or go out and join groups like the Proud Boys where he will be further radicalized.

So, I just want to share my long JE story since I feel like its appropriate here. Angelica presented this in a very goofy way, factual yet entertaining. I want to show the not so funny parts too since they are there.
My mom was kicked out from JW because she had premarital sex with my dad (an atheist) when she was young. Then they got married and had my sister and then me.
Not long after, my mom started going back to meetings and when my parents divorced, she started taking my older sister and I too. From then on I was brainwashed twice a week and forced to preach in extremely hot and cold weather.
From a young age I was told not to communicate with "worldly people" and that anyone who isnt in the religion was going to use me and that they weren't my real friends, only other JWs will truly love me. That's how they get you to stay, you dont learn.
In that religion, I was taught to judge others, to be homophobic, anti social and more. It was only when my adult neighbor whom I was very fond of left the religion when things began to change.
At first I was sad. I wouldnt be allowed to speak to her since if you got kicked out, all communications with you would be ceased (another form of manipulation) however it only applies to baptized JWs. Remember, these were people who raised me
I grew up with them so even the idea of leaving made me guilty.
My sister was pressured to get baptized at a very young age and not even a week afterwards, everyone in the congregation began to ask me when I was gonna get baptized.
Back to my neighbor, it was when she left that made my sister and I realize we could leave. She was the first to leave. I watched my mother mourn because she ACTUALLY believes it's the truth. Not long after, she was being visited by elders to convince her to go back and in a sick frenzy, my mother spent more money than we had on a trip to Uruguay in Hope's of getting my sister to convert back to jw.
It worked and my sister started going back to meetings. I had been contemplating leaving in my time in Uruguay. Later of that same year in the fall, my mom after a meeting began talking about the next one. I mustered enough courage to tell her, "I'm not going to the next meeting" I still remember how silent the halls of our apartment complex got. It was cold. and at first she didnt believe me. She thought I was messing around with her. I told her "no. I'm serious. I dont want to go to meetings anymore. I no longer want to preach. I dont want to be a JW." Then she tried to comprise she asked me if it was because I didn't like Spanish, that should try an english congregation so I understand better. I told her no. Then she got angry, telling me I had to go.
Heres another thing about JW. Theres a lot of pressure on parents to raise their kids "right". Had their kids strayed from the "truth" that they did something wrong. My mom Raised me well, she didnt do anything wrong, I just simply didnt agree with their ideals.
My mom was in denial after that. Shed her angry when we didnt get dressed for meetings, then she would mourn, and then she gave up. She was defeated and I watched her leave the house alone and sad and broken. It hurts me just thinking about it, and I wish there was a way to NOT hurt her, but her faith in JW was too strong.
Then, i was visited by elders.
They spoke to me, my mom cried, and did everything in power go hold everything back, to appear unfazed.
"Monster" my own mother called me a monster. I weeped for hours in my room after that.
A few my months later my sister, after being threatened to be forced to cut ties with everyone and be expelled from the religion, began to go to meetings again. This time, she got really involved.
So, it was just me, and I became several times happier. My grades went up, my appearance improved, and I had never been happier. I have a passion for music, but I hate church music, and I didn't like to sing at home because someone always there. Finally being able to just sing was so cleansing, I felt free. Occasionally, my sister would tell me, a strange twisted attempt to try to get me to go back to the meetings, "you're going to go back, you're living my story, so you might as well save mom the trouble and start going back now." And everytime I'd think the same thing: "you're missing the essential variable. You'rebaptized, I'm not." Had I been baptized, its likely I would be a JW.
Well, fast forward to next summer and I realize that I'm bi(def cant go back now). I tell my sister and she immediately uses it against me. When my sister left, she had been questioning and my mom threatened to kick her out of the house for being a homosexual (which she is not. It was a dumb rumor started by my crazy JW aunt). I was obviously frightened. I did everything she told me to do for a while after that.
Fast forward to spring break, I go to six flags with my moms JW friends. Since then, they'd been quite passive, only occasionally asking if they'd be seeing me Sunday. But this day wasdifferent. one of the elders was determined to get me to go back. While staying in a line waiting for a ride, he harshly grabs my arm, he began to throw questions my way. "Why did you leave? When are you coming back? Dont you miss everyone?" I tried to pull my hand, he didnt budge, I was losing my sister and her friend, they were going up the line and I was starting to fall back with the elder. I tried getting my hamd out again while half heartedly giving answers with no direct response.
Thank goodness my sisters friend was there. She called my name so I'd catch up and I had an e cause to tear my arm away full force without looking rude. I still remember the redness of my rm where he had grabbed me.
Ever since then, not much has happened. Sometimes I'm asked if I'll be seen at a meeting, and they never get a direct response. But even now, whenever I hear one of their church songs, I'm ready to burst in tears, thinking about all the damage I must have caused. If there was a way to repair my mother without having to go back to being a JW I would.
Well, that covers some of it, I have a whole lot that is prefer to just say in person. Especially since I've been typing this out a solid 20-30 minutes.

The Bible sessions were somewhat intense because we were given magazines and *literally* had to break down every sentence and word to find its real meaning. Services lasted for about 2-3 hours but trying to get out of the church took about another hour or so due to everybody talking to you, sharing there life story , asking for yours , talking about lunch , literally everything that crosses there mind. Ask questions bc why not . I’m not religious anymore 😐

I remember one time I was carving pumpkins on Halloween and the JW came up to me (I was about 9) and I was alone and they asked me if I was scared of dying and I said yes and so they stated rambling but I tried to explain I was Christian but they didn’t leave me alone so 9 year old me got scared and told my mom the fbi asked me if I was scared of dying and that only few people were chosen to go to heaven. That’s when she didn’t let me outside alone anymore

I have family that joined JW and tried to convert me too. The first thing that threw me off was the blood-thing, but they tried to wrap it in a "Your body, your rules"-thing. Eh, sure, whatever. Could be worse. Then they found out about me being bi and began to throw a constant barrage of curses, slurs, telling me I'm ending up in hell with other gays and similar sinners (note: they did not nor "real" sins like murder and stuff) and my first thought was not "that's so rude, why are you so mean to me?", but "tbh hanging out in a warm climate with probably shirtless disasters like Julie d'Aubigny, Freddie Mercury and Sappho sounds kinda cool tho". This was 14 years ago and I'm still writing them nice birthday wishes every year just to spite them.
[Edit] The more I read here in the comments, the more I have to conclude that those family-members were really shitty people first and newly joined Jehova's Witnesses second. But still, it doesn't change a bit about how I think about them and JWs as a whole.

Jasmine Dodd dude I really don‘t know in what they believe or not and in part I don’t even care this much, because this whole organisation is weird af. My parents were Christians back then, maybe they used this as part to convince a little kid to join a definitely not-cult via scare tactics?

    • @carrotsticksandhoumous
      @carrotsticksandhoumous 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

JustSchramme This sounds extremely unlikely as Jehovah’s witnesses are pretty strict about not swearing, using slurs, or cursing. A real Jehovah’s Witness would NEVER do any of those things. Plus the other commenter is right, they don’t, and never have, believed in hell. Plus they’re still people who believe the main principal of life is unconditional love and they’d never do that to anyone, let alone a child.

    • @JustSchramme
      @JustSchramme 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@carrotsticksandhoumous I fully agree with you on that front. Over time I met a few Jehova's Witnesses that were born into that all and those people were so incredibly nice, it always felt like they were acting like that since my first contact to JW was so vile. I think it had to do with them trying to over compensate, since they just recently joined JW back then. Or, they were simply shitty people that used the mantle of their religion to make a kid feel bad.. idk

I recently lost my whole family to them (shunned/excommunicated because i chose my own husband instead of letting my dad whose an elder pick one for me #arrangemarriegesarestillalive) so I’ve been kinda struggling with resentment towards them but this video hold so much truth in a comedic way that I feel a little more at peace. Thanks you @angelica

27 seconds in and you already hit the nail on the head 😂 As an exjw myself I was pretty impressed with how hilariously accurate this is. You have either done some very good research or have first hand experience with this cult. Either way thanks for the laughs!
Edit: I wanted to add, you are literally my favorite!! (super dramatic I know, but I could do no less for the most dramatic person I know). I have been watching your videos for so long, I am always so impressed with how talented and funny your videos are. If you turned out to also be an exjw I think I would loose my noodle haha but even if you aren't I'm still very impressed with your knowledge about the organization. This is some grade-a "un-witnessing" you got going on here!
Keep up the great work! I always look forward to new videos 😁❤
