I saw MISSOURI AT Vets Auditorium in Des Moines. I felt this could be the best Midwestern band I every heard live. I found out later that there were many bands that I LOVED from the Midwest including early Head East, All Shooting Star, REO, and Lamont, and the Duke. They probably all played together at one point in time, all I remember is shucking good coin for great memories. Thank you all for all you gave to me. Not to mention everybody else. God Bless Midwestern Rock And Roll
Call me a relic, Call me what you will, Say I'm old fashion, Say I'm over the hill, Today's music ain't got the same soul, I like that old time Rock and Roll!
This band totally kicked it. Every Friday when the 5:00 whistle blows, I gotta crank up this song, "Party Down" by Missouri, followed by "Party Town" by Glen Frey on the drive home. If you don't have "Welcome to Missouri" in your collection to this day, then you just don't like Rock n Roll.
I love this song and I'm not even from Missouri! I discovered these guys because their songs were used as the soundtrack for a monster truck tape I had back in the day called "Monster Mania". I rediscovered this song about 12 years ago, and one thing that not everybody realizes is that the version of the song used here - as well as on various streaming sites - is a combination of the original intro plus the re-recorded version from "Welcome Two Missouri" (which didn't have an intro).
This MO girl always called & requested it to be played in the 80's at Canton MO KQCA. However the radio station no longer exists. But I still am lifetime friends with the DJs. KRXL in Kirksville, MO still plays it. Local band Black Tie from Hannibal/Monroe City, MO does a kickass version of this song. Love it 🥰
This band open up for Head East in Iowa.. Missouri, is definitely one of my favorite bands.. It's getting close the country as you can without actually being country music..
Missouri native here ... too bad there is not a better conglomeration of Missouri hits ... love this song and this tune. I have their album and love it. brings back such special memories. what a great representation of fly over America!
I'd never heard of this band until I hooked up with my husband 12 years ago and he knows some of the band members. He worked at Alternative Sound Equipment in 1981-82 and was Ed's tech and did some repairs for Ron West (Martin Ashwill). This is a great band! And yeah, he still wants that beer you promised him. ;)
It was a great song back in the day, and, still is today!! My brother and I wore this album out, man! All us old dudes in Kansas City still play the hell out of this fine gem :) Thanks for the post, ronnwestt!
Saw them in 78 in the middle of a 500 acre field (meramec state park) along with brewer and shipley, pure prarie league and macks creek - I miss those places, times, music, and friends
I know it sounds cheesedick, but this song is the soundtrack to my life. Awesome tune and much thanks to Ron West for putting it up. Listen to it every day.
KY102 introduced the band to us hicks. Bought the tape. Wore it out. Daily listen for me still yet. Great memories of parties on the dam at Stockton lake.
I seen Missouri play at the coliseum in Benld, IL. in about 1977 or 78. I don't remember....I had a bit of a buzz going on in those days. :o) Hella good times back in the day.

I saw Missouri in concert many times at Memorial Hall in Joplin, MO. They were ALWAYS a great show! I wish I could see them again! Does anyone remember the "warm-up" band that played with them? I can't remember the name, but they were great too!. I have a lot of excellent pictures of them...always close to the stage, enjoying the music and enormous talent. I still have the original Missouri and Missouri Two black w/white graphics T-Shirts. Unfortunately, the ex-wife sold off my Missouri albums.
Played a concert with these guys at the Moberly Missouri civic center , they broke down and used our gear to play the show . I played with the a Dodge Band
GREAT SONG. Great band. you use to go into quigley music a lot. My dad use to be a part owner there. I just heard on the radio you're playing at stalight? i'll be there.
@ronnwestt I don't know of a Missouri bar band that doesnt do this song it's like the official rock anthem of all Missourians !!! Many bands Like I said play it but the best version next to the original have in my opinion have come from the Bands in the Louisiana Mo. area and most of those the very talented drummer Bill McGreevy has played in! Long Live the Music of Missouri !!!

KSHE just played this tonight around 8:45... I had forgotten about it... but really, the first time I heard it and it stuck in my head, I *think* it was used at the beginning of a Big Foot monster truck VHS tape from back in the day. Can anyone confirm? I'm 25 and remember watching those tapes when I was 5 or so...
You're not too far off. It was used at the beginning of a monster truck tape, but Bigfoot wasn't in that tape. The tape was "Monster Mania", and it featured another famous 'foot: Bear Foot.
@obtucewillie I would like to have seen that concert! I haven't heard the name Macks Creek in a long long time. Saw Brewer and Shipley at The Focal Point just a couple months ago, and saw Pure Prarrie League at Wildwood Springs, good, good music!
Ron, Did Billings play drums on the Polydor release of Movin' On? Just curious. He recorded my band long ago and was such a nice guy. He never bragged about it, he just said he played drums for Missouri and that was pretty much it. Loved working with him and I love Movin' On. Like I said, just curious.
