In my field experience, air valves function better during secondary transients and not immediately after power failure.

The immediate reaction to power failure is too too quick. NRV must be of suitable material and type. Because NRV is the 1st point of reaction near the pump house.

The return wave time is too long in the video. Actual slamming of NRV is too fast and by that time the air valves on the manifold react to column separation, it is too late.

why not use NRV much more simple

Check valve will still slam shut and damage by shock from the air bind. Pipeline content is large.
