Carolee Carmello was hands down the best. Her vowels are perfect and her mix is so meaty. A lot of the other vocalists modified their vowels in a strange way. Choi was a close second!
I also love the subtle grit at the end of the climax
Sometimes I wonder if the cast of urinetown start to need the toilet during the show and then just singing a whole show about peeing just doesn’t help
I had to per always during the act one finale
Once I sang a ballad in the context of having to pee. My director was surprisingly pleased. XD

Carolee not only held the note the strongest, but the growl when she clipped the end of "privilege" was stunning. Nancy Opel is the OG, but Carolee crushed it.
PS kinda unfair to compare amateurs to professionals, but it's still fun.

I always love the originals most, and I think that's why I'll always choose Nancy Opel for this song. Carolee Carmello was a great replacement, though, and her rendition was very different, but still amazing, so she's my second favorite
What no one seems to know is that Nancy CREATED the ending high note. It was not originally written to be that high note. She said, "I got it, let's do it!" and the creative team said, "Ok."

Can someone explain the plot of Urinetown and what this song is actually about, because I’m really confused! Really good vid btw!
Sorry I'm a few months late, but the musical is about a society that has gone through a water shortage, and it costs money to go to the public toilet in order to use the bathroom. If you break any of the laws, you get exiled to a place called Urinetown. This song is one of the first, and it's sung by Ms. Penelope Pennywise, the proprietor of the poorest, filthiest urinal in town. She's a horrible authoritarian, and when Old Man Strong (I played him a few months ago!) wants to go for free, she sings this song, explaining her work and why it's a privilege to pee in this society
