Yes it was real footage, it was originally black and white and converted to color using new technology. That wasnt the Soviets vs America. That was the Americans approaching from the left and the Soviets from the right closing in on Germany. Those kids were from the Hitler youth I believe. You guys should really do WW2 Oversimplified.

When Germany was taken hostage by the Nazis, their Boy Scout organization was turned into the Hitler Youth. Basically, it became a military youth training program! So, yeah, I'm pretty darn sure that those snot-nose brats were of the Hitler Youth.

They're probably unaware of the technology we use today that adds to colour to black and white videos so seeing WW2 footage that's in colour might be throwing them off as there were no colour cameras at the time.

@@5C2WMedia Just looked this up. You're right. Colour in video was only invented a few years before WW2 began. Still, none of it's footage was in colour so it's a forgivable assumption to make from seeing this. Knowledge of superimposed colour is not a prerequisite of retardation. That's quite harsh.

Americans are only "stupid" because stupid people are easy to control. Think back to the late 1800s earlier 1900s, America was becoming a powerhouse mostly on it's own. And most Americans were fit, tough and strong willed. Now look at Americans today. Years of corrupt politicians, political systems that never actually change. The easiest way to turn someone to your side is to do it when they're a kid, and the easiest way to get that accomplished is to have it happen in school where they hear, see and learn the same thing for 12 straight years. Americans do not know the history except their country, especially the history of world war II, and the schools say that America won the WWII, but did not say anything about the exploits of other countries, especially about Russia (the Soviet Union before), if the Soviet Union fell, Hitler would have won. I do not want to offend anyone, but the Americans simply do not know the location of the countries, and Russia too. Yeah, the biggest country in the world, where is it? from Russia, just my opinion.

Who fought for Hitler and the Wehrmacht, and who is against?
      Historical facts. To remember ...
In total, the Wehrmacht fought about 2 million people from 15 European countries (more than half a million - the Romanian army, almost 400 thousand - Hungarian troops, more than 200 thousand - Mussolini troops!).
During the years of the war, 59 divisions, 23 brigades, several separate regiments, legions and battalions were formed.
Many of them bore the names of state and national affiliation, and only volunteers served in them:
      "Blue Division" - Spain
"Wallonia" - in the division were French, Spanish and Walloon volunteers, moreover, the majority of the Walloons.
      "Galicia" - Ukrainians and Galicians
"Bohemia and Moravia" - Czechs from Moravia and Bohemia
Viking - volunteers from the Netherlands, Belgium and the Scandinavian countries
      “Denmark” - Danes
      Langemark - Flemish Volunteers
Nordland - Dutch and Scandinavian volunteers
Nederland - Dutch collaborators who fled to Germany after the Allies occupied the Netherlands.
"The French Infantry Regiment 638", since 1943, was merged with the newly organized "French division of the SS" Charlemagne "- the French.
The armies of the allies of Germany - Italy, Hungary, Romania, Finland, Slovakia, and Croatia - participated in the war against the USSR.
The Bulgarian army was involved in the occupation of Greece and Yugoslavia, but the Bulgarian ground units on the Eastern Front did not fight.
The Russian Liberation Army (ROA) under the command of General A.A. Vlasova acted on the side of Nazi Germany, although not officially included in the Wehrmacht.
      Historical facts. To remember ...

If you knew, how about all of us former Soviet peoples who lost in that war through your fault about 28,000,000 people, of which only the military was about 10,000,000, and all the rest exclusively peaceful citizens of the USSR, and especially us Russians, who of all the peoples of the USSR suffered the greatest losses, about 14,000,000 people (6,000,000 of which were military, and 8,000,000 peaceful people), as well as the Ukrainians 8,000,000 (military and peaceful losses), and Belarusians about 3,000,000 (military and peaceful losses), and other 150 large and small peoples of the USSR, in each family, someone died or went missing, and everyone still not only remembers, but feels these global losses, as in my family, where my father and mother left in different years to fight the Nazis 7 people, and only three returned home, and two more went missing in the first months of the war, and two were killed at the front. And you can't imagine how I, a Russian person, am happy to see that our Red Army was able to reach Berlin, at the cost of terrible losses and huge heroism of our soldiers and all the people who, not only in the rear, but also in the frontline zone, did not finish (starved), and stood for 15-16 hours at the machines in the cold in workshops open to all winds without walls and Windows, starting from 10-12 years, to do for the front and for our Victory as many tanks, machine guns, planes, shells and everything that could help beat our soldiers fascists. It is also very painful and difficult for me to remember and look at the footage of the documentary military chronicle about the 1710 cities and towns burned and destroyed by the Nazis and those European kalobarants who came with them, and about more than 70,000 villages and towns where more than 1,500,000 buildings and structures were completely or partially destroyed, and more than 25 million people lost their roof over their heads. More than 31,850 industrial enterprises were also destroyed and destroyed. but many of our Soviet cities were so beautiful then. So look at these numbers and stop grieving over the fact that the Red Army reached Berlin (although your Kaiser warned at the end of the 19th century, never to fight against the Russians), because after what you and your allies from almost all of Europe have done to our cities and especially to our people, we had every right to Rob you completely as a nation, but Stalin once again the winners and victims of neighboring countries in that war, to which Stalin replied, such rulers as Hitler come and go, but the German people remain, and did not allow you to do with you what the Anglo-Saxons offered. So you should not be hard to look at these shots, but happy that it was the Red Army that entered Berlin and on the full rights of the only one who deserved this Victory (since it was we who destroyed about 75% of all fascist divisions and up to 92% of your entire live military force), not allowing the British and Americans to completely erase a country like Germany from the maps.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is unlikely that you will be able to understand all this if you live in peacetime and do not see what a war to the death is! You did not experience all this horror on your territory. We didn’t see how people were burned alive, how they were poisoned in gas chambers, how they were raped, how they were slaughtered alive, how they held small children by the legs, killed them, and hanged them. And we got through it. Many of us born after the Great Patriotic War feel all this. It's already in our blood! And that is why for us the memory of this war, of the victims, of the mass heroism of the Soviet people is sacred and that is why the May 9th Parade is held! To be remembered and honored!

The reason behind filming the acts of war was the same on either side, two reasons: propaganda, morale; huge motivation and reward behind it.
Propaganda for public support and to galvanize new recruits. The rest for morale of the currently fighting regiments and eventually even civilians. Not that they would set up a theater or cinema for thousands, but they would show it to a couple hundred people and word would get around.
Also, note that the Soviets were never really on anyone's side before the Nazi invasion, they just had an agreement of non-intervention with Germany.
This pact was much more cherished by the Soviet side as it turned out. When the Soviets saw the successful advances towards the west, they were pretty sure that their pact wouldn't hold and that Germany would eventually turn back to the East to invade the Soviet Union. And, in a sense, fortunately the Nazis were arrogant enough to think they could hold two war fronts at the same time and still win (also, thanks weather!). It's a pity though, had the Western Alliance and the Soviets found common ground for compromise earlier on, a lot less people would have died on any side of the war. Sadly, politics and ideologies prevented that... even after conquering Nazi Germany, they still bickered over territory, intellectual property, POWs, etc. Fascism didn't die, but it sure took one hell of a beating from surprisingly tough and resilient people.

When the Second World War broke out in September 1939, just one Army photographer, Geoffrey Keating, and one cameraman, Harry Rignold, accompanied the British Expeditionary Force to France.
On 24 October 1941, the Army agreed to form a corps of trained photographers and cameramen. The unit was called the Army Film and Photographic Unit (AFPU).
AFPU photographers and cameramen were recruited from the ranks of the Army. Many had been press photographers or cameramen in peacetime. All recruits had to undergo compulsory training in battle photography at Pinewood Film Studios, England.

Dear Ashtyn and Jon, the footage is absolutely real. Yes, that is Hitler at the beginning. He is pinning medals for bravery on German soldiers who are twelve years old.

USA does not have to deal with this victory. The most recent joined the war. Something else is said that the United States won. Not! This is just American school textbooks talking about it. Hello from Finland.

That tall massive building the Soviets were walking through was the former Reich Chancellery. At 6:16 they are walking through the Great Marble Gallery toward Hitler's office and private study.

6:55 absolutely not! The way I see the Nazi flag is not a disgust, but menacing and intimidating.
And I got no personal issues with the Nazi, why would I think that way?

There used to be people who filmed these fragments from a video, often at the cost of their lives.
The children ran away from their homes, called themselves orphans, and did everything to simply help the soldiers at the front. Some of these children were awarded the highest award: “Hero of the Soviet Union,” most often posthumously.
There were cases such as the siege of the only Russian fort. The defense was only one hundred Soviet soldiers against tens of thousands of Germans and artillery. The Germans fired a gas projectile from artillery, and when the Germans entered the fort, the Russians rushed at the Germans in a bayonet attack. They could not even be called alive, they were half-dead. The Germans fled in horror.
On the Internet you can find many heroes of the Soviet Union who have accomplished unthinkable feats. For example, the boy who blew up a German train with ammunition. Just put the search for "children are heroes of the Soviet Union"

The pictures of Berlin after the war are terrifying. The city is in asbolute ruin. Barely anything left standing. Truly sad.
