    As i mentioned in the end about my older brother, I'd worn a rugby jersey from the team we played in. This episode really made me thought more about my brother, of all the times we talked of taking our kids out to sheep camp, fishing, or other adventure to make great memories.
    Worn that jersey in honor of him.

      Whether or not if your brother had any kids, I'd like to think he'd be more than cool if you gathered your own council of uncles and shared an outing with whatever kids need it. It'd be a blessing to your brother's memory and spirit.

    I love how in episode 5, young Irene says how community is all about elders and children, and in this episode she's the one who brings Cheese and the uncles together. This show handles its characters so beautifully

    When the uncles were crying, I was in tears.
    They benefited from Cheese’s openness and thoughtfulness, he benefited from their wisdom and experience, including the mistakes they’d made.
    I just watched the next episode and, no spoilers, but early on I loved how happy and excited Willie-Jack was helping out at the traditional-medicine folding table.

    Notice Cheese's teeshirt: "Rage Against the Machine". The episode starts with him essentially living inside a machine, in virtual reality. It ends with him out in the real, natural world without a machine in sight.

  • @michaelrutledge3750
    @michaelrutledge3750 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I have thoughts that I’m struggling to connect into a cohesive whole.
    70s Irene: Boarding schools were designed to break the culture by separating the elders from the children (disentanglement). So in the present, she calls the uncles to help Cheese reconnect (entanglement).
    It’s interesting to see each uncle use a method outside their wheelhouse on the trip. Only Brownie remains constant.
    Bucky we know is into modern science normally, but we see him using traditional fishing methods. Big usually embraces the traditional, but he’s using a modern fishing pole. Brownie is just present and doesn’t care if he catches anything. He’s a constant who is grounded, literally, versus the disentanglement of the polar opposite uncles from their normal roles. The world doesn’t make sense.
    Each uncle imparts his wisdom to Cheese:
    Brownie: Earth. Be present. Be grateful for the gifts Nature gives us. Middle World and the World Above.
    Big: Spiritual. The mysteries exist whether we see them or not. Middle World.
    Bucky: 1. Science. Quantum threads cannot be disentangled. 2. New Age Spirituality. A soul contract cannot be untethered. 3. Emotional. These are bonds you don’t want to break. None of the three worlds.
    I think Bucky’s use of quantum entanglement physics is a metaphor for Native communities. Bucky seems to be conflating quantum entanglement in string theory with quantum threading, which is hard to follow. Maybe it is me, though. He doesn’t seem to have a firm grasp of the theories.
    Quantum threading is when two electrons in two atoms are linked up orbitally (not on a molecular level, but at a sub-atomic level). The connection making the entanglement is the quantum thread, as I understand it.
    In string theory, when two sub-atomic particles are entangled, they share the same state, no matter what distance separates them. I’m not entirely clear what his metaphor is.
    I *think* Bucky is thinking about tensor networks. If you look at Mark Van Raamsdonk‘s diagram of an entanglement network forming (link below), it creates a circle and becomes a metaphor for a Native village. Two particles entangle, which then entangle with other pairs, etc. If you break a single entanglement between any of the nodes, the village network fails.
    “The key to achieving this simplification is a principle called ‘locality.’ Any given electron only interacts with its nearest neighboring electrons. Entangling each of many electrons with its neighbors produces a series of ‘nodes’ in the network. Those nodes are the tensors, and entanglement links them together. All those interconnected nodes make up the network.”
    www.quantamagazine.org/tensor-networks-and-entanglement-20150428/
    Or I’m completely wrong. It’s so hard to follow Bucky’s descriptions of quantum physics.
    In any case, his physics metaphor fails, so he moves to New Age Soul Contracts. That fails, so he moves to an emotional explanation, which is exactly what Cheese needs.
    But I think quantum physics entanglement is a “thread” running through the fabric of the story for a reason. It’s a metaphor for assimilation and reconnecting with our traditions and each other.
    Irene was right in the 70s. Elders need the children as much as children needs the elders. We need to reconnect what was intentionally disentangled by the non-Natives with forced assimilation.

    • @IndigenousTalkOfficial
      @IndigenousTalkOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      "It’s interesting to see each uncle use a method outside their wheelhouse on the trip. Only Brownie remains constant. "
      That's beautiful! Yes that is true! Brownie is the one who stayed level headed. I'm curious to ask the bros and hear their opinion on this.
      "I think Bucky’s use of quantum entanglement physics is a metaphor for Native communities."
      Ian (NativeFilmTalk) brought this up actually and it was a one off line from him, talking about how string theory could be connected to Native Communities and honestly I didn't think much of it, I actually edited his part out, but now you bring it up it makes a lot more sense! I'm going to ask him again his perspective on how it's connected. I like your suggested analysis! I don't think you're wrong, I definitely think you're onto something here.
      "Irene was right in the 70s. Elders need the children as much as children needs the elders."
      Yes, still standing with her values from that early age.
      I appreciate you sharing your perspective! I always wondered if other people got into trying to analyze certain themes/metaphors/symbols, good to know others are out there doing the same finding the meaning in the art and discussing.

    The fishing spot they took Cheese to looks like the same river area that the young elders were partying at in ‘house made of bongs’
    Frankfurter Sandwich theory: I’m wondering if it’s just a term Bucky says when they are going to get together with friends/relatives at the river spot for fun and bonding
    I really hope the last episode will be a full circle moment where they can bring Maximus home
    Patrick I need a link to those background lights please they’re amazing

    • @IndigenousTalkOfficial
      @IndigenousTalkOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We thought maybe the fishing spot is the same as the party spot but we looked at pictures and it looks like the size of water is different in both areas so we were thinking perhaps it's different, but if they said it was the same in the show I could see that, with a passage of time,
      Someone mentioned there's a 1960's version of Frankfurter Sandwich so I still have to look into that for a possible connection, I'm not giving up! lol
      I feel like Sterlin Harjo knows what he's doing, Maximus has to come back in one way or another, we have to get the resolution between Fixico and Bucky before Fixico "leaves", also conclude Elora's Dad situation,
      These are the lights I have, they were a great purchase, up close you can see the light zones are a little obvious but from several feet away it's not as noticeable, not noticeable on camera at all, for the price I think they're great but if you want less obvious lightzones that's where pricier lights come into play, this is the exact title from amazon:
