    thanks for the video. I've just started doing aid climb, and your images are very motivating. And you look like a very calm and smart person. Which I believe are the most important things. Have fun and hello from Italy

    Just turned 61 and I need to get a few solos under my belt. I like the idea of filming ones self to document the journey.
    Great inspiring video.

    Another great video Eric - man, that Zion National Park sure is something else!! I would love to just do a road trip through the park.....and possibly some climbing but I am not a proficient solo aid climber , I need another summer or two up at my local crag working on my systems etc until everything becomes second nature....I am in my late 50s now but climbing has always been such a big part of my life I just can't seem to quit despite having two extremely bad knees which make it hard just to walk.....I can thank 12 years of ski buming in the Canadian Rockies for my current knee problems plus racing as a kid prior to moving to the Lake Louise area. Being a bartender I would usually ski four days a week from November to late Aprils thus I probably have over 1500 hundred days on skis, now I am paying the piper...never thought it would happen this early but shit happens - I still wouldn't trade those years.....so many good memories , so good it seems I am stuck back in those days and can't move on - lol - oh well, good place to get stuck I guess --------keep up the great work Eric and be safe partner- cheers from chilly Canada!

      Check out paragliding - it's a great sedentary sport - easy on the knees ;-)

      @@kimjongryan9043 Thanks man, actually I have been thinking about paragliding for some time now- Actually found a club not far away that offers lessons and has a club and a plane to tow guys up when the wind is light I guess???
      Anyway, I just had two of my old 60 liters North Face packs , full of both winter and summer technical gear out of my storage locker for the first time in five or more years. Amazing how many old ice screws, snargs, bunch of pitons hexes, wired nuts, offset nuts, original stiff shaft wild country "friends".... and also lots of less archaic gear the late 90s up until 2008ish, it brought back so many good memories and an identity I almost forgot was once me, its been so long.....I don't think I will ever bother selling any of my gear ....I'd rather have the gear and the memories that it brings back than a couple thousand bucks I could squeeze out of all my old tents and bags etc....man is sucks getting old, really does...Hopefully I'll get some knew knees in the next few years but it takes a little longer up here in Canada with our social medical system, which I think is great as everyone is equal rich or poor, when it comes to health care - cheers pal!!!

      Right on, I hear ya - I've been dealing with a bunch of various injuries off & on and sometimes it feels like I'm trapped inside my own body -- sometimes it's not so bad but a lot of the time my body just can't keep up with my mind / spirit.
      That's awesome you have a place to get towed up though. There's a lot to learn to start paragliding & it'll run you a few thousand dollars, but the experience is unlike anything you have done / will ever do. It's the most pure form of flight there is & once you're up, there's no physical demands besides pulling a couple strings - it's non-physical / all mental. IMO the experience is worth double the money & effort required to do it. Good luck!

      @@kimjongryan9043Ryan thanks so much for the reply.....your enthusiasm for the sport is contagious! I am definitely even keener now than I was before after reading your description above.....To soar with the birds with nothing but the sounds of nature sounds fantastic....- I have always found, throughout my life, that when I am actively involved with the natural world, be it skiing, climbing, or sailing, I am always very much more peaceful.....I can't wait - cheers man and thanks for your encouragement

      I wear a grigri on my harness to catch falls. I also tie backup knots about every 20-30' as a final catch in case the grigri fails. A lot of good aid climbing info is here th-cam.com/users/SuperTopoVideo

    Which of the Zion Walls was your favorite. Many years ago I soloed Touchstone Wall. It was very much a learning experience. I also did the approach pitches on Moonlight Buttress with the idea to solo it. I turned around early though. Moonlight looks the cleanest. Have you climbed Prodigal Son. Great videos. I’m learning lots!! Thanks!!

      Moonlight buttress is my favorite. Prodigal Son has had Peregrine falcon nesting as an obstacle.

    All your videos are awesome! Do you set your anchors up (specifically bolt anchors) for an upward pull? or do you just let the weight of your haulbag act as a counter weight in case of a fall? if so, what about when you are near the top and your bag is light?

    • @ericsadventures9838
      @ericsadventures9838  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I'm glad you like them :) I always set my anchors for an upward pull. Easy when they're bolts. I also always use my haul bag as a counterweight to lighten the shock if I fall. I'll show my system in the next video.
