Power HD 20kg vs Annimos 20kg - Which servo is telling the truth?

  • Let's see which one of these Amazon best servos lives up to its torque claims. Also applies to their 23kg 25kg 30kg and 35kg versions.
    Power HD Servo - amzn.to/2Vl1GIy
    Servo options - snp.link/adcc10eb
    Note: Power HD is mounted slightly higher since it is longer and did not fit exactly in the slot. Doesn't affect torque numbers though.

    I have used the Power HD 20kg Waterproof Servo for 5 years. I have a 4 year old one in my Axial Wraith, KNOWN for eating Servos.... In 4 years I've NEVER had any issues with it!!
    I'll ALWAYS recommend it.

    Loving the servo reviews so far. Interesting seeing how they stack up. Curious why the rig changed in the middle of the test between the 2 servos? There were 3 or 4 variables changed in between the 2 tests? I know we aren't trying to fly a rocket to the moon or anything but consistency between testing makes the results more viable and useful. Keep up the good work and please keep the servo reviews coming.

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ahh yes, the main difference is the power hd servo is mounted a little bit higher than the annimos. The reason is our servo mount hole is a hair tight and the Power HD servo will not fit unless it is force in. We've done it before and it scratches the servo and may squeeze the internals a bit. Readings are the same though as what we got here. So we mounted the servo a little higher with just two lower mounting bolts.

    Still digging these reviews! One critique is that the power HD was in the upper holes on your rig, as you can see this made the rod too short and consequently the servo arm was not perpendicular. A small difference in leverage, but you've taken pains to give accurate measurements and this throws it off slightly. Also, I think it would be great if you could frame your shot to show the voltage below the overlaid text. Great videos, thanks!

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good eye. yes, the power hd servo is a hair tight and it wouldn't go in the slot without force. So we mounted in the upper hole.

    PowerHD is the servos I've always used when replacing servos. I have a PowerHD DW25LV in my TRX and run the PowerHD LW-20MG in anything else. I've not had to replace any 1/5 scale servos yet but I believe my Super Rock Rey will need one soon.

    • @cwatson42785

      I run the 65kg in my Dbxle and it's been great so far! Right now im trying to decide between a JX brushless 46kg hv and the power HD 40kg. I was gonna go with the JX cause I wasn't sure if the power HD 40kg one was more for crawlers cause it had that listed and the reviews were from crawler owners

    • @SebastianLong
      @SebastianLong ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cwatson42785 Crawler people like the higher torque and speed. Just look at the speed and torque to know if it is ideal for your application. Doesnt really matter if it ia being used in crawlers because any servo will work with any RC (as long as it is the correct plug and works with digital or analog and the correct scale). Higher speed just means it will move the wheels from lock to lock faster and the torque is just how effective the servo is under load. If you can, in any application, go for the highest speed and highest torque. You can always turn down the speed of the servo, you cant turn it up if you are using it to its max spec. One other thing to watch out for is the voltage input it requires or suggests as some will be a LV (low voltage) meaning it can and probably will burn out if the BEC in your ESC is set too high. For example, you have a LV servo rated for no more than 6 volts and your ESC is delivering 7.4 volts, thats no good. Then you have HV (high voltage) servos that can be from 6 volts and up. Most servos are ideal on 7.4 volts and you will often times get very near the peak of the servos performance. There are other servos that are direct power accepting up to 14.8 volts directly from the battery, but they are often in the multiple hundreds of dollars in price.

      @@SebastianLong Hey Bro thanks for the info! I went with the jx 46kg hv brushless one for the reeper but I plan on getting that power HD one too to try out. This one is a hv one so I'll run it at 8.4v. I had a budget Amazon 35kg (30$) servo and while it turns the wheels but I noticed it doesn't center it up the greatest on the Reeper so it ends up driving all over the place. I'll keep you posted on how this one is as it's only 60$ and I've had good luck with jx in the past. I just put the 36kg jx HV servo in my kraton EXB and I'm happy with it and that's only on 7.4v. I should probably turn it up to 8.4 being that it's a HV servo. I'll keep you posted. Hey Lane are you on IG? And appreciate the advice as always brotha and taking the time

    • @SebastianLong
      @SebastianLong ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cwatson42785 The Power HD DW25LV is discontinued. I should have bought more as it is still working fine in my TRX4. My first comment was from 2 years ago, so that tells you how good Power HD is. Brushless servos work very good and are very long lasting. Pay a little more up front, but in the long run you actually save more because you arent replacing the servos often. I recently got into a fight with a big rock with my Losi LMT and the stock servo broke all the tabs off. The servo works well, i dont know if they sell a new cap for it but i should look it up. I have a dead servo that looks like the cap will fit, but i wont know until i try it. Either way, it wont be a loss if it doesnt work. Lol

    I have 25kg Annimos and 20kg PowerHD. The Annimos has less torque overall and that torque decreases dramatically when the angle to move is only a few degrees, for instance for less than 5 degrees. Under that condition, the torque on the PowerHD decrease also, but much less. It would be very informative if you conduct torque tests with small angle command. It would reveal how servo motors are accurate under load. Under load, the servomotors never reach their commanded position. Moreover, the motor overheat since it constantly try to reach the commanded position but has not enough torque to reach it. For instance, in my test, the Annimos draw a steady current of 1 Amp because it never reach the commanded position. Under the same condition, the PowerHD draws 0.3 Amp and the error angle is less (it is closer to the commanded position than the Annimos).

    • @theclaxton

      @@RCReviewChannel yeah, would need a repeatable radial impact. I wonder about an impact driver and varying supply voltage or one that has multiple setting for torque/impact rate. Maybe even a drill and using the clutch... what about a digital torque wrench and simply loading the servo until failure? The ones I use at work will display max torque reached. What about a disassembly to simply review materials of construction? Just some ideas! Love the content! Thanks!

    The spline on the pro version is stainless not brass so I can tell this is the more basic one.

    Francis, I enjoy all your testing videos...but you are making an error in I believe every servo you've tested. KG ratings on servos is generally KG-cm. 1 cm is only 0.4". You should not state the servo is making false claims when you have the rod at 1" from the servo center. You even said in some videos "move the arm closer to center to increase the torque!". Again, enjoy your videos, just don't want you to get flamed for incorrect info!

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. My servo arm is 1 inch long so I only measure oz in values. To get the kg cm rating, I use a translation program that is very accurate. convert-to.com/conversion/torque/convert-ozf-in-to-kgf-cm.html
      So I believe my kg cm numbers are accurate to what i measure with our equipment
