Richard Burton had a great affection for Thomas and he always regretted not giving him one final loan when the poet asked for it......probably would have hastened the great mans end in any case, but Burton was very important in promoting the mans work and yet there existed a real bond of friendship between the two great Welshmen.

My favourite was a neighbour telling me about a drugs raid and going into a rather long story about how the town had gone down hill since the English had moved in, and after a while I pointed out I was English, as which point she changed tack and observed, 'but at least you aren't from Wrexham.'
I recall Richard Burton had an annoying habit of mentioning about Dylan borrowing money. Burton himself was a drunk and would mingle truth and fantasy. I don't care what Dylan did. He was not a saint but then again who is?

Yes Tom i have to agree with you. It's over blown and delivered with too much seriousness and Pathos. Ver TS eliot. But both are affected. TS Eliot lies to us when he speaks with his upper class English accent when actually he is from the deep south of America. It is impossible for him to develop that voice naturally therefore we suspect , and rightfully so, that he is lying to us. If Dylan spoke more naturally without the fake rolling tones we would probably be more touched.To others this is Just my point of view and i am not looking for an argument. I love DT....

I've only ever read his work. I find his overblown, pompous sounding recitation style really diminishes the effect of the words.
Well he wrote it! He could read it how he wanted to - and he did.
No argument. I'm just saying it's less effective, in my opinion, the way he chooses to recite it.
I have to say it does sound rather dramatic and over done to today's ears.
