Such an informative video....its huge huge help for parents , especially based out of India....loads and loads of thanks to Dhirana for posting this video...
+sahana ganeshkumar Thanks for your thoughts. Our whole goal is to try and make Indian classical dance forms like Bharatanatyam more accessible so that more people can enjoy it. We will keep your comment in mind in something we pursue in the future!
Why can't alta be applied? In my case alta doesn't stain for long. I know mehndi is a less instant version but alta doesn't seem so bad! Also I guess you can use the red sharpie because in North America alta is hard to find!
You are absolutely right that alta can be applied. It's personal preference and because we did this based out of the U.S., using a red sharpie just seems more convenient in terms of speed in applying and removing. Thanks for your comment!
thanks for replying...what i use instead of alta/mahawar is kumkum(sindoor) mixed with water and applied. it helps to make a healthier alternative for sharpies even though its not the easiest and quickest way :)
Can you please let me know where you got the background track? (thathodagathaam + vathaapi) If you have it could you please share it, thank you so much
Hi Alex. Thanks for your note! Unfortunately, the music in the video is not commercial music, so we can't share. So sorry about that. But all the best to you and thanks for watching.
Thanks for posting these informative videos. It is a huge help for all parents especially in US. But, I just had one quick question...how did you wash of the permanent marker from the hands and feet?? It is so difficult to get even a small stain off the fingers. I see that its been used liberally in the video. Do you have any quick way to get rid of it? Isn't a mehndi cone a quick way to achieve the look? Please reply with tips. Otherwise, a well made video..kudos to Dhirana movement!!☺
Dhirana Movement Thank you!! I will remember that. My daughter's teacher asked to apply mehndi a day before the event to avoid mess since all are small kids.. so, I guess that's what we will be doing this time.
HI Fara. That's usually how we do it here in the U.S. for performances as we need something quick and something that might also come off quicker! Thanks for your comment! Cheers
Hi Aishwarya. If you are asking if you can remove it, the answer is that it depends on what type of marker you use. Most tend to fade eventually or go away with the use of soap and water, cleanser or make up remover, nail polish remover has also proven effective in removing especially tough marker.
Hi. It's true that red marker isn't the most "friendly" option. Unfortunately, there are not a whole lot of alternatives. Alta and/or Mehendi is a more healthy option but it is often impractical for use in one-off performances and especially in places like the U.S. where students have a performance one day and go to school or work the next day and want to rid themselves of the markings. If you have other suggestions, definitely feel free to share. Thanks for your comment!

the red sharpie is a good idea except I don't think it's very safe to use , it's toxic x_X
