    19:37 That's just it, it's supposed to be melancholic. This is not a battle that is hyped up in Zuko's mind. It's not some notch on his belt, it's two siblings potentially fighting to the death. Two people who were raised together and grew together, a somber occasion. A sad battle but a needed one.

    • @the_crypter
      @the_crypter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +66

    • @reagan1312
      @reagan1312 3 ปีที่แล้ว +74

      Exactly this. It's sad. These are 2 kids who were raised in circumstances unfair to them and are products of their environment. Maybe if Azula was more doted on by her mother the way Zuko was, and less by her father she could've turned out less cruel. Maybe if Zuko received the attention and love he wanted from his father originally, he could've been more like Azula. Azula really never had a chance to be anything but what her father wanted her to be. It's just sad all around.

    • @AStrangeWindmill
      @AStrangeWindmill 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Yeah, it's one of the best used themes in the show. Really drives home that no even though Zuko is killing it, this is _not_ a good thing that's happening.

    • @CaptainRickey
      @CaptainRickey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @Abdur Rehman Ali the reason Azula was cheered on by her father and Zuko was very much not, is in the comics.
      **SPOILERS FOR THE COMICS**
      Zuko's mother, Ursa, was forced into her marriage with Ozai, and had originally planned to get married to another guy. While being with Ozai, Ursa wrote letters to her former lover but suspected that Ozai had learned of the letters. She wrote in one of them about Zuko not being Ozai's son and turns out, she was correct. Ozai did find out about the letter and confronted Ursa. He asked her why she'd write it, to which she replied something along the lines of "maybe I just wanted to hurt you, the way you hurt me." to which Ozai replied "You want me to treat him as if he wasn't my son?" and as said, he'd continue to treat Zuko the way he did to spite Ursa. Azula being the person she is, a prodigy in firebending, helped accentuate Ozai's treatment. Ursa of course seeing her firstborn being treated unfairly, is forced to nurture Zuko's parential love practically by herself.

      @Abdur Rehman Ali still, azula was the child in this situation. she had no good adult role models, and the people who were supposed to stick with her through thick and thin like they did zuko (ursa and iroh) gave up on her. how old was she when they kept saying "what's wrong with this child?" like 10??? that's crazy young to think about your child so badly

    For the record, Zuko has never really lost an agni kai. He refused to fight his father (and saved his own life in doing so). He won against Zhao. He was on his way to winning this one when Katara presented Azula with a way to cheat.

    Idk if you noticed, but if you look at Azula's breathing throughout the fight, she's panting and out of breath, while Zuko's breathing is as steady as it was at the beginning. Firebending is all about the breath, this has been a mantra throughout the entire series. Azula lost control internally, so she also lost control of her firebending and can't keep up with Zuko. I love how they carried these themes throughout to the very end. The Final Agni Kai will always be my favorite, I still remember the chills I got the first time seeing it when it aired.

    • @stefankatsarov5806
      @stefankatsarov5806 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not only that, you also hear Iroh telling Zuko it isnt about the muscles.
      All curent fire benders is their muscles for fire and not the breath including Azula and Ozai.
      You can see how Zuka was more muscular in S1 but later when he got skinnier he is still strong in bending.

  • @AverytheCubanAmerican
    @AverytheCubanAmerican 3 ปีที่แล้ว +234

    I think we can all agree that the Fire Lord’s throne room looked 10 times more menacing when Azula was sitting in it
    And the fire is blue because whoever is sitting in the throne controls the fire surrounding it. So Ozai, Azulon and Azula were actively bending the fire while sitting in their throne. That's why the fire grew when Azulon and Ozai got mad at Ozai and Zuko respectively (and Jeong Jeong when he got mad at Aang in The Deserter)

    • @Phoenix-King-ozai

    God, it's an understated moment, but I love the look in Ozai's eyes when he realizes that Aang is redirecting his lightning. He knows, in that moment, he has lost and is about to die, and you know in the back of his head he's thinking "fucking Zuko taught him that," and you just see the fear sink in for a second. Then he immediately switches back to cocky and maniacal when Aang relents. A+ bit of concise character work.
    Also, that pretty much settles who would win between Ozai and Iroh. Ozai would absolutely go for the lightning, Iroh would effortlessly redirect, and Ozai would turn into a pile of ash with ridiculously nice abs.

    Sean your editing is the best in all of youtube reactions there is so much time spent on this, I can see how many passes this must take to achieve, I don't know if most people notice but I do and I want to say congratulations you have mastered reaction editing for sure.
    I can see you must have several cutting passes, then setting up the multi cam and alternating between them, the zooms, the fullscreens, then the meme parts where you must go and find references for your audio effects all the time (you must have a huge library by now lol), it is very very impressive I imagine one of these is at least 8 hours of work

      Another thing about lightning, we kinda see a hint that natural lightning is more powerful than bending lightning (at least, without the comet, we dont really know about with it) and irl getting struck by lightning is rarely lethal, but can cause all kinds of issues (and even fix some)
      If ATLAs lightning is similar to irl lightning (which it may or may not be) it would be possible to survive a direct hit without redirecting.

    Let's not forget that Azula is only 14 years old

  • @horsegirl19951
    @horsegirl19951 3 ปีที่แล้ว +49

    She didn’t know how to handle Mai and Ty Lee’s betrayal and so she banished all of her servants instead of figuring out how to act differently. She’s never failed before. Her wickedness over the series both helped and hindered her. It made her able to manipulate the Dai Li. Her point of betraying the Dai Li makes sense, because they betrayed Long Feng, even though they and the Imperial Firebenders would be useful to her in the fight with Zuko and Katara. Who’s to say that they won’t betray her? She pushed Mai and Ty Lee too hard and made them betray her. It got their cooperation for a time, but it ended up creating the chain reaction of fear, anxiety, stress and doubt. It made her able to thrive in the current Imperial Government, but also incapable of adapting to failure. Azula’s wickedness contributed to her downfall. Azula’s breakdown is foreshadowed all the way to *Almost perfect isn’t good enough.* Ursa loves Azula, and you can’t change my mind.
    It was clear that Zuko had the upper hand, as he had better endurance and focus and remained unfazed during the fight. Azula was already panting halfway through the fight. Plus, he learned the original style of firebending, which Azula hasn’t. Their roles have been switched. His feet aren’t going anywhere but where he wants them to go, while Azula is moving around the arena. Zuko’s never been better off, and Azula never lower. He’s got nothing more to prove. I don’t think Zuko would have killed Azula with lightning if she hadn’t cheated. I think Zuko would have knocked out Azula the same way he did with Ozai. I mean if he didn’t kill his garbage father, he wasn’t going to kill Azula. The Last Agni Kai is designed to show the effects of war.
    Ozai has this consistent trait of being motivated solely by don’t be second best. Iroh was a general. Azulon and Sozin were Fire Lords. Ozai will be the Phoenix King. Sozin mostly killed the Air Nomads? Ozai will wipe out the Earth Kingdom. Iroh has one kid. Ozai has two. The Fire Lord wears a crown. The Phoenix King wears a helmet. Iroh has a dramatic muscle reveal. Ozai burns his outfit before revealing. Azula uses lightning with one hand. Ozai uses it with two.

The score, the flames, watching brother and sister fight like that… hits right in the feels. It’s been a good journey but we’re at the end

    The Agni Kai tradition is meant to be a duel between two firebenders and no one else. Despite Zuko getting struck by Azula, Azula lost the Agni Kai the moment she shot her lightning towards Katara. Also it would be cool to see Sparky Sparky Boom Man and Kyoshi all juiced up by the comet.

    26:00 that's pretty much true..all the bending in korra is an extension of what you see in atla. For the action sequences noone can deny that atla walked so korra could run. You're gonna see some crazy innovative shit so get ready..just wait till i get introduced.. there's also even a brand new bending style adapted from real world martial arts like for waterbemding, firebending etc

It really focus on the difference between the different bending styles and I really like that you can see the differences much better where they're more meshed together in Korra. That, for me, just makes the fighting in Korra like normal fight scenes in other shows and I often don't pay attention to them 🤷‍♀️

    Technically, Zuko never fought and lost a legitimate Agni Kai. Ozai’s he misunderstood and nobody clarified it for him, then refused to fight it once he realized his father was his true opponent. He beat Zhao and let him live with his humiliation. Azula had to attack the audience to throw off Zuko, and while no rule explicitly denies this move, it goes against the spirit of dueling for honor, so it isn’t a legitimate win. So, Zuko is UNDEFEATED!!!

    This fight tells so much about Azula and Zuko. Both reflect Confidence and selfdoubt and depression very well. Zuko was angry and in an inner struggle. Azula was calm, calculating and aimed for perfection. In the end the tides turned. Zuko found his peace and balance, while Azula couldn’t handle the pressure anymore. In the past Zuko was the one always chasing his enemy, fighting with anger and often unbalanced. In this fight Zuko never moved away from his spot and outfought Azula. He also used techniques of all 4 elements. It’s something Iroh told him in Season 2. he told him that the four elements can make everyone more powerful. It’s also something Katara takes advantage from. In her fight with Hama she used an earthbending technique which took Hama off guard. The detail of this Show is amazing.

    Awesome reaction guys!
    Katara was standing back and to the side, much like Iroh did during Zuko’s Agni Kai with Zhao. Since it’s a firebending duel, Azula basically forfeit by attacking someone other than her opponent, so the fact that she technically successfully landed a firebending blow on Zuko doesn’t count. Also as far as we know, blood bending is only possible during a full moon, and we know there was a full moon during the Ember Island players episode, so it’s unlikely another one is coming up during the comet.

    21:57 every time people see this episode, they always jump to being like “katara should’ve moved,” but for one, the creators clearly needed her to be there to justify the next part of the story. and two, i truly don’t believe that a sane azula would have cheated to win against zuko. agni kais are all about this fucked up sense of “honor” and i’d honestly be hesitant to say that she would resort to something like cheating if she wasn’t already on the edge of insanity. and at that point, if she was set on cheating, it wouldn’t have mattered where katara was standing. she would have shot her from any side. so, i tend to think that neither zuko nor katara would have even expected her to do something as low as that which is why they were so caught off guard 🤷🏻‍♀️

  • @neighborMin
    @neighborMin 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    See I'd say Azulas breakdown wasnt rushed necessarily so much as the causes of it happened rapidly
    Her friends "betrayed" and "abandoned" her (they just stood up to her and that was not how that relationship always was) and her brother (that one of those friends abandoned her for) was embraced and saved again by people who just accepted him and forgave him in a way she could never hope for.
    Azula has always been the golden child, the only one who could expect any approval and the resulting mockery of love that could be gotten from Ozai. She sacrificed everything to be that. Maybe not consciously but still. She destroyed her friendships, any kind of bonds with family, she doesnt really even have an identity beyond "scary, cruel, fierce, manipulative daughter of the firelord". Look how incapable she was of relating to other people at the beach episode.
    Everything she is is about keeping her Fathers approval and now that is all she has... and she knows how conditional his love is. That "you cant treat me like Zukko!" with its sulky and faltering voice says so much and that shaky "really?" She's scared of when she makes a mistake and loses what she has left. Which a part of her knows is an easy thing here.
    So now she must be perfect, no exceptional, as a ruler over a nation. Before she was a soldier, an elite agent... But now the weight of perfection has grown an insane amount in an instant. After her loss of her friends, her brother (he's with the avatar and never tries to stop her fall which is as clear a message as you can get), she cracked almost instantly.
