@@BrunoNeureiter Not really. I have ears and as such, can play the chord I need on the keys into the sequencer, then the sequencer can play it for me. Unlike actually playing a piece, doing it like that it's just a chord without any emotion weaved into it . . which is why my stuff sounds different from those that actually can play the keys. Maybe not to others but to me it does.

I love how you, as a classical pianist, experiment with modern technology. However, you don't need to buy (yet another) gadget to play around with sampling. An iPad with a software sampler (e. g. the one in Garageband) will do, although pressing real buttons is of course more satisfying. Another option is to use a phone app, e.g. the free Koala sampler.

Being classically trained for ten years from age 7, I became a huge hip hop head in my teens. I showed my piano teacher Xzibit’s ‘Paparazzi’ which samples Gabriel Fauré’s ‘Pavane’. Upon first listen, he gave me a slightly demeaning laugh and was reluctant to have me learn the piece. I was embarrassed at first, but hey man, I dig this sh!t. This was in the 90s. I’m so glad learning music now has less confines to genres, whether classical, jazz, pop, hip hop, and everything else. Practicing any instrument should NEVER confine you! Especially if your main instrument is a sampler.

You gave me more ideas. From listening to drum patterns, I know even when you find something you like, it's nice to keep introducing variations of it as it moves along towards the finale.

So creative. Although we’re probably the same age, you are my music role model. I wish these worlds mixed more - so many pop musicians and classical musicians stay so isolated in their worlds.
