My heart really goes on for our SIKH BROTHERS who had to suffer the most because of this partition circus, they lost all their revered places and what not :-((
Dr Ahmed is right, 55 crores was not mentioned in what was read out by Dr Sushila Nayyar as he was on wow of Silence,he said this in private conversation with Mountbatten who went to meet him after cabinet decided, broke fast on 19 th,Govt declared releasing 55 crores on 14 th January itself
Please share some perspective on trans yamuna localities. How they were formed? Was there any civilization before partition? Shahdara seems to have some history before partition. Any book/documentation to understand the evolution of trans yamuna areas?
Hi Kapil, there is in fact a really good book by Vazira Zamindar called the Long Partition, and while it is more about the complex and layered impact of partition particularly on Muslims, she places all her research in Delhi and Karachi, including maps of Delhi before and after partition, new townships that emerged etc. It may not answer your question exactly, but will certainly provide a very enriching context. It is really helping me understand the evolution of Delhi at that time..
Paritition was the most beautiful thing to happen to the Indian subcontinent, saved us and the world from being a bigger failed Pakistan with 1.8 billion people. A country scarred with riots and submissive hindu population forced to flee or live in ignominy.
It is such a treat to listen to Dr Ishtiyaq Ahmad and I can keep on listening to him again and again
What an excellent presentation! We're really grateful that you have put this series together, and there couldn't have been a better start!
