Mike Singletary Post Game Press Conference where he goes off on his team and Vernon Davis. This is after the San Francisco 49ers were destroyed by the Seattle Seahawks
Mike Singletary change the culture of this team. He is the reason that Jim Harbrough had the formula and pieces, all he had to do was take them the next level, and that is what Jim did.
This was not the day after the game, this was immediately following the game. I was at this game and listened to this press conference live on the radio on the way home.
Singletary is only lacking the x's and o's part of the game. Put him as a defensive coordinator for 2-3 seasons under a smart coach. Give him the way to turn his passion to game management and he'd be amazing.
This speech reminds of my co workers at Wal Mart who come in late every single day, take 25 minute breaks, take an hour and a half lunch hours and also go to the bathroom multiple times during their shift. CANNOT WORK WITH THEM....😂
Doesen't get the the credit he deserves for his years in shaping that defense and than coaching Patrick Willis and Vernon Davis, some of the key components on that team wouldn't be who they are today without Mike Singletary. He was a great player and a great motivator!
Vernon Davis is one of the best Tight Ends in the league after this rant....speaking as a Packers Fan, I'd like to see Jermichael Finely humbled in a similar manner
Hey guys, Singletary wasn't ready for the job. He didn't have much experience when he was linebacker coach and simply wasn't ready for prime time. He was terrible with the media with most of the coordinators off limits and his decisions were very questionable on the field. It's not his fault though, he didn't have someone to mentor him. 49ers brass are really the ones to blame, they haven't shown any competence in running a team.
@TheGeorgecostanza Most of the recent coaches the Niners have had have been very defensive minded; this is why the 49er defense has been awesome for a few years. Harbaugh has been able to maintain an offense that Smith and the rest of the O can handle. They have been playing to Alex's strengths rather than asking Alex to make big plays, which he has had to do for the past few years resulting in bad decisions made by him. I'm glad to see Alex Smith finally living up to his potential.
What makes Harbaugh amazing that he turned a culture from losing and being just mediocre to a culture of having the team believe in itself with practically the same players. Very few coaches can do that and Jim and John Harbaugh was able to do that with the Ravens.
damn sure is... "cannot play with him, cannot win with him, cannot coach with him, can't do it". ...aww man, he's a breath of fresh air when it comes to Pro Sports. "CAN'T DO IT!!!!"
people need to stop hating on singletary....its not his fault that the niners have been horrible... i mean really was it mikes fault that nate clements was stupid to fumble the ball vs atlanta? was it mikes fault that delany walker fumbled a punt vs saints? was it mikes fault that frank gore fumbled twice vs the eagles? was it mikes fault that alex smith got hurt vs panthers and had to put in an even worse david carr who threw away the ball? NO..KEEP MIKE and BRING IN A QB

Singletary had 50% of what it takes to be a great coach. He has the tenacity, love, emotion and intensity. He just needed a way to transfer that into his players. Kinda like magic johnson, he loved the game so much and had such a drive that when he saw players who didnt have that, he didnt know what to do.
Yeah I always thought of him as a great Drill Instructor just not a true general. I thought he instilled great values in his guys, he was inspiring, he just wasn't a very good tactician.
Magic Johnson when he stepped away from coaching---I'm paraphrasing but it was basically "When I played, Kareem, Kurt Rambis and I sat in the locker room after wins or losses and talked about what we had to do to get another ring. I walk into this locker room and hear these guys talking about who has the nicer cell phone. I can't deal with this."
Terence McClain you mean ron jeremys evil twin right? Tomsula makes erikson the head coach before mike nolan look smart. At least erikson had an excuse for his idiocy he was a freaking drunk. Whats tomsulas exscuse he was used as a soccer ball as a baby?
@@detpistons4l401 Because it's the "coach ripping on a player in public" trope that the media hates. No matter how correct the coach is, the media will rip the coach. In the end, he was right for going on this tirade. He wanted to win so badly that he wanted only people who wanted to win, not people who wanted to lose. Vernon Davis slapping a player in the face for no reason, and then getting a 15 yard penalty on top of it is a losers mentality. Can't win when you take penalties like that.
Davis was a flash in the pan, the product of a being a primary focal point (to his credit, admittedly) of his team's red zone offense for a few years and not that much more aside from his size/athleticism. He is fortunate that his coaches dialed so many play calls that were engineered specifically to feed him the ball. IMO this really inflated his value, at least his perceived value. Mark my words, he may not be all that old -- Vernon is 5-7 years younger than Antonio Gates (who is unusually old but still a top-5 TE in the NFL regardless of his age) -- but he has already played his best football. I mean to say that ("his best football") in every sense of the phrase; in a literal sense, statistically... however you wanna slice it. His stats may climb next season, and probably will, relative to this past year's injury-plagued disappointment. How can they not?? But regardless of that, Davis is well on his way to reverting back to the selfish player he initially appeared to be when issues both on and off the field had many of us convinced he would be a TOTAL bust, especially given his 3rd overall NFL pedigree. It's in his character to take shortcuts, put himself before the team, and rely on his physical gifts to get by... such is the attitude responsible for him *almost* never even getting his big payday at all. Anyone who gives him a big contract on the back nine of his career deserves the disappointment they are setting themselves up for.
This speech reminds me of what I go through every Saturdays at work. I tell my co-workers that I’d rather work with 2 people on shift than work with 1 person knowing that person is going to be deadweight and I have to carry him. Cannot work with him. Cannot make money with him. Can’t do it.
This is who the Lions need as a head coach! If you listen to Vernon Davis now, he credits Mike Singletary with turning him around. I pray some team gives him another shot.
In many ways, Mike Singleterry had a huge role in making the 49ers the team they are today. He disciplined the players and made them check their egos out the door. Humility. Without it, Jim Harbaugh wouldn't of had the success he had (having to deal with entitled brats). Made the team development that much better.
No he didn't. Mike Singletary is a silly man that likes to joke around and have fun. Mike Singletary performed in the Bears embarrassing "Superbowl Shuffle" song where he showed his true colors. The man was a class clown and shame on people for falling for this tough guy discipline nonsense. Mike Singletary would rather be at a karaoke bar laughing the night away.
The Niners needed Singletary to come back and bench Vernon again this season. Holding out and missing practice for more money? Can't catch shit all season? Cannot play with them. Cannot win with them. Cannot coach with them. CAN'T DO IT.
You do realize Singletary performed in the infamous Bears "Superbowl Shuffle" right? At heart he is silly and likes to play around too much. That's why I find it amazing people fell so hard for his tough guy discipline schtick. Freaking unreal.
never got the credit he deserved..he helped to reverse the luck of this franchise, but never was able to take that next step with them because of that 2010 season..
My fiance just now...I'm working on Sunday. I just started this job so I am being nice. I could have said no. Me:You know Mike Singletary? Her:Can't do it!
Melvin Gordon needs to watch this. He doesn't seem to give a shit about anything but his money right now. He is clearly not giving full effort right now so that he can stay healthy, move on to a new team, and get more money. I would prefer he takes the year off and just doesn't take the field. The only reason he's playing is so that he can still collect game checks.
as dumb as singeltary was. He really did change Vernon as a player and most importantly a leader/person. Look at him now hes a beast. And a lot is owed to Mike for the transformation. Mikes down fall was it was the only player he cared about lol
For everyone commenting that Mr. Singletary was the “stepping stone,” and the dutiful “drill instructor” to prepare the Niners for “General” Harbaugh; it did my heart good to see them come up short in the Super Bowl. How fitting that it was another legendary Middle Linebacker that put a stop their chances in that game. I love the cosmos.

Great speech from a great man.
I wish Singletary became a coach for the Bears. Man that would be fucking awesome.
still relevant in 2019

Yeah thats absolutely right, after this he became the TE he is now. Thanks Singletary for that
thats not a rant. thats the truth. And a damn good coach telling it...
Mike Singletary Is a great coach. The team was going through a slump and just didn't have the motivation to win and to play as a team

.....and guess what? Mike Singletary will get what he wants because he just won't stop pushing until he gets it. San Fran is on the right path.
idk about the best tight end in the league but hes up there
