Nothing at all against Mr. Fanning. I'm glad he escaped that terrifying ordeal in one piece, but how exactly is he a "hero"? That word is getting to be so overused it's ridiculous.
DinomotoMennovi Hero: person, who is admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. (Oxford dictionary) He was courageous by trying to safe his life punching the shark and swimming away from it. He had a noble quality, thinking of his friend's safety when he saw him coming to help him. He is not part of The Avengers but by definition he is a hero. P.S. The other competitor is also a hero just for trying to help him at that moment.
Ian Kiil Oh please. At that point i's all instinct to survive, not courage. If a pedestrian is crossing he road and manages to avoid a speeding car by jumping out of the way, does that make him a hero?
Ian Kiil Being called a hero should be like getting into the baseball hall of fame. 75% of the people need to consider you a hero. Same the words genius and dynasty
I am just happy to hear he came out of this unharmed....emotionally I think he will have to dig deep to get over this. After having 3 shark attacks on the same stretch of coastline in the last month or so I cannot believe that the event actually took place....KEEP STRONG MR FANNING...
Granville Ormerod The shark probably thought he was a seal and tried to eat him, there's a lot of them around the coasts of South Africa this time of the year because of said plump and juicy seals.
TheMusketITuckedIt I don't think the shark really knew whether he was a seal or not. When sharks attack seals it is well calculated and it happens very quickly and aggressively at high speeds from a distance closing in. It is more likely the shark had no clue what he was and was just checking it out. I am impressed with the quick timing of the rescue boats. If the shark was interested in eating Mr. Fanning, the sound of the boats approaching would have scared it off ... well done
TheMusketITuckedIt Maybe the shark thought that was a possibility, but you need to watch shark attacks on seals to understand that if this shark was certain Mick Fanning was a seal it would have been over in a split second and Fanning would have disappeared into the sea immediately.
@@JoeBlythe absolutely agree with you, especially comparing what happened to the swimmer in Sydney, Australia a few days ago. That shark was going for the kill.
I get the impression that the shark startled the hell out of itself by swimming open mawed into the leg rope on the last few feet before it made contact with Fanning. This was sufficient to distract it from Fanning and to abort the attack. Even so the power of the shark is in evidence with the jarring and then violent pulling of Fanning away and down from his board. One can only imagine the potential injuries if that power was transferred through the mouth and teeth directlx onto the surfers body. There is a remote possibility that the shark was pursuing other prey and just happened upon the surfer and his legrope. Either way Fanning is a lucky man indeed.
I think you're correct, if you look closer there are 2 fins. The thing is one fin looks more like a dolphin fin than a shark fin, maybe a shark was preying on a dolphin and it just so happened that Mick was in the middle of it.
@@chris-6845 I think you may find the first fin seen was the dorsal fin, whereas the second fin was the pectoral fin (if the shark was on its side) or my best guess the caudal fin.
Dude! I used to be so comfortable in the ocean when I was kid. Like no fear. Now I’m like nah I’ll just put my feet in right on the shoreline, I’m good.
Probably to keep the mood as calm as possible. People feed off eachother’s energy. If they’d come at him all panicked and freaking out, he wouldn’t have been able to calm himself.

I would have to go to the bar and get SO wasted. You know how many people would buy a shark warrior a drink? Hah, that'd be my new nickname: Shark Warrior!!!
Sharks can be bastards they will kill you if they can - don't think they care about you if you love them, they are like a serial killer they have no remorse - so fight them when they attack you, punch them, smash them, stab them with anything you have and waste no time or you'll be in their stomach and on the ocean floor in blood red pieces - you may not even have a coffin for your funeral due to this. I'm with Mick all the way for the fight he put up - he knew the score and he didn't fart around with this killing machine! Viva le fight for survival!
Cows: “Humans can be bastards they will kill you if they can. They don’t give a damn about you, they are like serial killers. They will enslave you and heard you to your death. Sometimes they even kill you and only eat a little then throw the rest away like garbage. Sick bastards.”

Joe Blythe I still think the shark mistook the surfer and his surfboard for a succulent seal, or at least his silhouette did.
