There is a four part podcast (Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast episode 393) where Shane and Louis CK (who both like history) go into all the US Presidents from Washington thru Biden. All told it’s like 6 hours of told and untold history with two of the best comics of the last 20 years. May not work for a reaction video but it’s great to watch/ laugh at.
Thank you John. I came here to comment this. It isn’t good reaction material just because of time, but goddamn, I could listen to Louis talk about stuff like that all day.
Shane is actually incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to history. I started listening to his podcast (MSSP) about a year ago because I loved the way he described history from time to time.
He really isn't though. All his takes are boomer con propaganda tier. He has basic knowledge of history that any 8th grader should have been told at state schools. Joe too. For example, the civil war wasn't about slavery. You can prove that by the mere existence of the Collins Amendment, in which the union offered the confederates to enshrine slavery as the law of the land for all slave owning states in perpetuity on the condition that they didn't leave the union. This would have been the 13th amendment, and it was proposed by 2 of Lincolns closest allies on behalf of him. The north only had manufacturing and elite wasps. The south was the entire trade economy for the early USA. This is because of the rivers in the US. The south has slow wide rivers good for transport and farming. The north has fast rivers which were good for powering water mills and machine shops. The northerners tariffed and taxed their goods so that the southeners would see no profit, then turned their materials into things they sold overseas for tons of money. They also stole and pillaged and raped their way through the south during and after the war. It was entirely an economic war, Lincoln should be scorned as one of the most corrupt leaders in our history. That is why you were taught that he was some folk hero. That is why all the northern schools teach that "the civil war was a war against slavery and we were the morally righteous good guys". So no, Shane literally just spouts the most basic version of the propaganda we were all "taught" in grade school.
Basically, musket warfare was all about getting large volleys of musket ball fire going at the same time, because of the inaccuray of the rifles, to maximize chances of doing damage. The long reload period of the rifle was a big reason they stretched the lines out as far as possible, and rotated the lines so reloading lines would stand stil, while already reloaded and ready to fire lines would advance to the front, fire and start reloading again - rinse and repeat ( its called Fire and Advance ) There was also a huge part of it to "blame" on gentlemans code of conduct, for example, there were rules to try and not fire on officers on purpose, because if the officers died, then all hell would break out, and honor would be lost. People were indeed funny af back then.
Shane knows a lot about history because that was his major in college. He has a series of podcasts he did with Louis CK where they talk about each US President
Never forget it's completely free to learn, especially if you are willing to pirate textbooks and such. I only graduated high school, never took out a loan for college cause the debt just seemed like too much to me. Always makes me laugh when I'm talking history with someone and they say "Oh what did you major in?" Nothing, I majored in nothing. I just enjoy smoking weed and learning about history and have done so often for like the past 10 years lol.
I’d be interested to know what documentary on Queen Elizabeth you watched because she didn’t colonize anyone during her reign as queen. Actually the opposite. Colonies left the British Empire during her reign.
once upon a time I was a truck driver. about once a week while driving tru a larger city a car driver would go absolutely spastic while flipping me off getting in front and slamming on the bakes. Hand gestures the whole works . it would be witnessed and somebody would comment over the radio. I would say I have never felt so loved. In that instant I was the only person to be on his mind. Completely.
any mssp bedtime is the best history stories. pearl harbor, discovering america, native americans, and uss indianapolis. or just shane and the shaman being on st rogies.
Shanes podcast with Louis CK about presidents is awesome. It’s like 5 hours long but worth a listen. Also his new stuff about GW is not on a special yet. He’s touring with it now but I think he’ll put out a special this summer.
7:17 - Not Queen Elizabeth, but Queen Victoria who reigned while Britain was conquering the world. Her grandfather, George III, had lost the United States, but Britian still controlled Canada and several Caribbean islands. Various nations in Africa, such as South Africa (formerly controlled by the Zulus), India, Australia, New Zealand, and various Pacific islands were brought under British rule during her reign. 8:32 - The reason why the soldiers walked shoulder to shoulder like that was to amass their fire. You could only fire one shot at a time and then reload to fire again. Even the best trained soldiers could only fire 4 times per minute. Most people took 2 or less per minute to load their guns, fire, then load again. In a war situation like that, you have to have several soldiers, side by side, firing all at once in order to have any real effect of the battlefield. With the invention of the machine gun, that ended, because a single machine gun NOW (or any automatic rifle) can fire as many bullets in a minute (or less) than those ENTIRE ARMIES back then. 9:26 - Prussia was one of many German kingdoms during the Middle Ages and Rennaissance eras. It was often the most powerful as well. Much of the country ranged from eastern Germany and northern Poland. Its capital was Konigsberg and then Berlin. It was the Prussian Kaiser who managed to unite all of the Kingdoms into a single Germany in the 1800s. Much of Prussian territory was lost after WWI.
"As a creator" of what? the first modern war is considerated to be the Crimean war (1853-56) between, mostly, Russia vs. France, the UK and the Ottoman Empire
I'd heard of Prussia before but you inspired me to look it up on a map for once. Looks like it was basically modern day Germany + the top half of Poland. TIL!
Rewatching this coz I love Shane …. But if you don’t know something I personally think you should google it more I enjoy you learning on the fly!!! I enjoy your videos !!! Good luck!
Guerrilla warfare as well as Guerrilla Bars implies using irregular methods in the street or in the jungle weather it be war or snappin’ like a god. Has nothing to do with gorillas 😊😊
If you're really into hearing this kind of humorous history talk, look up MSSP Presidents. It's basically 4 episodes of their podcast where Shane and Louie CK go through ever president in US history and talk about some things they did. Oddly hilarious.
Not sure why most automatically look at the negative. Was colonization bad, not necessarily. What seems to b forgotten is at the speed the world advanced because of colonization. What would be the difference between advancement if the west just kept to themselves? I think there is current evidence today to compare with. It’s not bad, it’s not good it’s just was, but what it did allow was for the world for the most part to advance together.
Britt, you said it right, it is sad to see all the poor little people being abused by the powerful with guns, and yet everyone wants to ban guns in the USA... guess where that leads, the government treating us like the shit they feel we are. Love your reviews, great job.
This is the first video of yours I’ve seen. Your a lovely young woman. I am 38 and I feel like we learned so much more about history than younger people are learning today. I have teenagers and they wouldn’t have ever heard of Prussia or a deep understanding of the rev or civil war.
Rogan’s conclusions here are kinda dumb. “How people get from Mongols to this?” My god, British do have cavalry, British do have tactics. Did he really think that the only tactic they have was marching in straight lines?
Dude everyone acts as if England created conization. When England was colonized 2times in there own history before becoming the English Empire. The Romans colonized England then it was the Vikings also colonized England. So that whole narative as if England created this form of conqure and control was a specificaly racist english creation during one period of time .
Prussia was basically the precursor to modern Germany. Google Otto von Bismarck. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prussia. Prussian politics and wars were a major contributing factor to WW1 and WW2 as well as the formation of the Nazis and Hitler's rise to power. You don't have the latter without the former. If one wants to understand modern Europe, and indeed world politics today, you have to understand Prussia.

Was just about to comment this thank you
I listen to Shane and Matt’s podcast MSSP while I’m delivering at work all day. Those two never fail to put me in a better mood.
Shane knows a lot about history because that was his major in college. He has a series of podcasts he did with Louis CK where they talk about each US President
He was also a teacher in Spain for awhile no bs he's pretty fluent
I enjoy listening to Thomas Sowell on history especially civil rights history.
When you didn't know about Prussia, that was adorable
Shane is the man. More Shane please!

The George washington joke Joe mentions is now out in Shane's newest Netflix special.

The Patriot w/ Mel Gibson is a brilliant movie!
He's what you would call multitasked to where he can do more than one thing at a time 👍
You’re channel is amazing.
any mssp bedtime is the best history stories. pearl harbor, discovering america, native americans, and uss indianapolis. or just shane and the shaman being on st rogies.

Gilly and Keeves has some great sketches. Also, for some (mostly inaccurate) historical comedy check out WKUK - The Civil War On Drugs.
Shanes podcast with Louis CK about presidents is awesome. It’s like 5 hours long but worth a listen. Also his new stuff about GW is not on a special yet. He’s touring with it now but I think he’ll put out a special this summer.
For many years the British had a saying centuries even. " the sun never sets on the British Empire"
Love the yellow it's your color, definitely

Shane got his degree as a history major.
The trench warfare Civil War battle he’s thinking of is The Siege of Petersburg, not Vicksburg.
You should check gilly and keeves, it's sketch comedy done great.
ANYTHING BY GILLY AND KEEVES. I promise you won't be disappointed by ANYTHING you watch by Shane gillis
"As a creator" of what?
the first modern war is considerated to be the Crimean war (1853-56) between, mostly, Russia vs. France, the UK and the Ottoman Empire

Prussia was an old German kingdom. They were hired as mercenaries by the British to fight the Americans in the Revolutionary War.
Guerrilla warfare as well as Guerrilla Bars implies using irregular methods in the street or in the jungle weather it be war or snappin’ like a god. Has nothing to do with gorillas 😊😊
Guerrilla means little war in Spanish. The origin of the term is the resistent fight of the Spaniards against the French invasion led by Napoleon
Watch his 3 part series with Luie ck on the presidents
It's called 'history'
If you're really into hearing this kind of humorous history talk, look up MSSP Presidents. It's basically 4 episodes of their podcast where Shane and Louie CK go through ever president in US history and talk about some things they did. Oddly hilarious.

Britt, you said it right, it is sad to see all the poor little people being abused by the powerful with guns, and yet everyone wants to ban guns in the USA... guess where that leads, the government treating us like the shit they feel we are. Love your reviews, great job.
Watch Matt and Shane podcast where they have whole episode about Medieval warfare, siege etc. P.S. PRUSSIA was "first" Germany ;)
Shane gillis Alabama football talks about how long it took to integrate the team
He knows what Prussia is, he is "super smart" xD
This is the first video of yours I’ve seen. Your a lovely young woman. I am 38 and I feel like we learned so much more about history than younger people are learning today. I have teenagers and they wouldn’t have ever heard of Prussia or a deep understanding of the rev or civil war.
Prussia. Prussians. Yup. Oh you actually Google’d it! Good for you. 🙏
social studies. hahaha same here
A lot of Shane’s knowledge of history is learned from watching the history channel
Yet another glowing example of the fantastic religious homeschool curriculum. "Prussia?...Like Russia with a P. That's a place." : )
Learn somethin new everyday, eh,Britt?!😂❤
Shane has a bachelors in history.
Anyone upset with you is insane..youre amazing! Lol
i felt like social studies was the same class for like 5 years and i still couldn't get a good grade.
I love that you didnt know about Prussia Lol
That was Queen Victoria that colonized "everything".
Hes a decorated veteran.😂
Hi Shane
Damn I would be lucky if I got a wife with this personality. She cool asf
Obviously that’s historically inaccurate. The slaves weren’t freed until several years into the war.
That’s history sweetheart not social studies 😭😂
Rogan’s conclusions here are kinda dumb. “How people get from Mongols to this?” My god, British do have cavalry, British do have tactics. Did he really think that the only tactic they have was marching in straight lines?
Hilarious 😂
LMAO YOU LOOKED UP PRUSSIA GIRL THAT WAS BACK IN THE DAY WE ARENT CALLED THE 13 COLONIES ANYMORE THINGS CHANGE AND END

Is it just me or does she have a crush on Shane?
Britt is absolutely gorgeous she’s my internet girlfriend
You're really pretty
Australia is correct
🤙🇨🇦❤️
You left school way too early! Every video you seem to anti-question that should already be known!
I guess you didn’t like social studies that much. Everyone knows about Prussia
This disgusting

Oh, it's interesting to hear someone smart do a react.
