    Even if your pots are right your soil can be trapping water. As it ages its fiber decomposes and it becomes less permeable so i had lot of problems this way; can happen just enough to clog up the drainage. Im moving to fabric pots because they dry out fast and i can feel them to know how the moisture is doing. When parch comes in late summer this will be risky a bit but i'll be placing them in troughs for that time to streamline and cushion the watering procedure.

      You are 100 percent correct that’s why some of the plants I up potted doing much better.one of my other viewers suggested grow bags but I haven’t moved that way yet. I will try it this season. I am going to also attempt to water based on weight of the pot. I have to admit the figs I grew in green room were watered just enough based on weight and they are doing great. Thank you for watching lostpony

    I manage to overwater and underwater at the same time. I know, its a talent.

      Lucky you and I would agree truly a talent. Thank you for watching.

      When the dirt get super dry it becomes hard to absorb water some time u could let the plant sit in a tray of water so that it can wick up the water over time like and hour or so

    Use grow bags instead and you never have to worry about overwatering. Unfortunately you will have the opposite problem but it will be easier to spot which ones needs watering ASAP 😀

      Thank you@lakeyg1 I agree grow bags are great for controlling water and root pruning. My intention is to decide which one to plant in ground and I hear grow bags get the very fine roots stuck in them and become a hassle to remove and can hurt the tree.

      @@FigMadeiraIf you do it when they are dormant it doesn't hurt them at all. Little root pruning will actually help to encourage root branching when they are finally planted in ground. Happy figging!

      Thank you lakeyg1 I will definitely try using grow bags

      @@FigMadeira i went ahead and cut the grow bags a couple times when it was hard to get the plants out and that did the trick. I can sew em back up or make them lace-ups i dunno but it solved the un-pot difficulty with a few easy snips vertically down one side and it was pretty easy on the roots.

    Thank you so much @SuperNebula123!hundred percent you can plant VDB in ground!I live in Coquitlam Bc our weather is identical. I will be planting negronne/VDB as my second in ground tree next. It’s excellent choice n delicious.

    Unrelated i have 3 varieties: mission, brown turkey and kadota. First two do fine the kadota makes lots of fruit but just never ripens really, any ideas on getting this variety to do better? Thx!

      Hi lostpony4885 the Kodata also known as Peters honey is a great honey fig. It produces Breba and main crop. The one I have in ground and in pot ripens the Breba but not the main crop. I would prune for breba leaving all last year growth.Bottom line it’s location and weather that affect us in Pnw. When fruit is ripening we need the heat. I am going to do videos this year on inground vs pot for Breba and main crop. Thank you for watching and good luck.

    Why are your figs dropping and not ripening?

    • @FigMadeira
      @FigMadeira  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s the overwatering I was doing. The roots were still moist and I was still watering. When I attempted to slow down watering the tree dryed up and was under-watered. It’s usually watering that causes all my problems.

    You are doing well, your trees have lots of figs unlike mine.
    Can you ripen VDB in ground in Portland, I assume that is where you are located.
