    There are so many videos, facebook groups and posts on the internet, just so much information about disc dyeing that it is honestly astonishing how many people just butcher their first dye. This DEFINATELY isn't butchered and what I especially liked was the colour choices to avoid green and especially brown. Colour combo choices are a really simple thing and go a long way in disc dyeing. I've done multiple dyes myself and made some mistakes along the way, but sometimes it is baffling how little people read into this kind of stuff before just diving in, purchase something in dx plastic, fail, buy dyes that don't work on discs, fail, then buy a quality disc, good dyes and combine ALL of the colours, creating a brown/black mess 😬.
    EDIT. Nope. There was yellow in there as well. Thankfully you got lucky with the colours not turning out brown everywhere. Colour combos are a seriously underrated aspect in dyeing.

      Definitely got lucky! I think the main issue with all the disc dyeing information on the internet is just that, there is too much of it. There are so many varying opinions on how to go about it that it can sometimes be off-putting to try and look into. It could also just be my ADHD 😆, but it does sometimes feel overwhelming. For our dyes, I just tried to use some common sense, but this time I used waaaaay too much lotion! 😜

      @@JustDisc the biggest, THE BIGGEST thing is to use colours that won't fail you easily. Red and yellow, they look good separately, combine to orange which is also nice. Pink and yellow, same thing. Red and blue, if they combine they make purple, which is also nice. But if you have yellow, red AND blue close to each other, you might absolutely ruin a disc. Often times colour choices 100% save a failed dye job.

    It rubs the lotion on its skin, or else it gets the hose again.
    You might want to use a torch to pop bubbles in lotion bed.
    I'm worried about dying my Berg. The top could trap air pockets, so some spots, no dye.

      There’s actually a really easy method I found on TH-cam to prevent the bubble. Sarg’s happy little discs has a video on it. I tried it for the first time last week and had no bubble!

    When i did a berg i placed it face up and mixed different dyes and shaving foam in little cups and then applied the foam with a spoon in the areas i wanted and did the edge with a paint brush, i used a bamboo skewer to swirl the foam i placed in the middle for a design. This method works well with other discs aswell. It is less messy and easy for kids to do. You wont get super crisp designs but it is a good starting point. I also put my pie pan on a old baking sheet and leave in my over with just the light on. I find the warm temp helps the dye set fast and deeper

    @justdisc, your overfill your trays every time. To keep the mess clean (and get better dyes) is to only fill your tray up 2/3 the way.

      I was thinking the same thing. In my experience I can dye 2 discs with 1 bottle of lotion. I also haven't dyed any bergs yet due to the dreaded bubble caused by the thumb track. I think it looks great though and you made something unique.

  • @jray7316
    @jray7316 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I just watched a video where the guy mixed his dyes with lotion and kept them in their own bottles. This way, when he applied them to the substrate (glue in his case), they didn't run like yours did here. Yes, you made mistakes, but the end result wasn't a disaster. Also, gotta love the Berg!
