US ELECTIONS: “Trump has a head start over Harris!” Democratic Party convention in Chicago!
US vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris is starting the Democratic convention with a tailwind: According to a recent poll, a growing proportion of US Americans have a favorable view of the 59-year-old. Around half of adult Americans - 48 percent - have a very or somewhat positive view of Harris, according to the representative survey conducted by the AP news agency and the Norc research center.
At the beginning of the summer - before Joe Biden's disastrous TV duel with Harris' Republican rival Donald Trump prompted Biden to abandon his candidacy - this figure was still at 39 percent. It is not only an increase in Harris' popularity ratings, but also a gain in voter favorability compared to Biden's ratings before his withdrawal, of whom 38 percent said they had a very or somewhat positive opinion.
However, the Democrats are likely to be even more pleased that Harris is ahead of Trump, who 41% of US adults have a very or somewhat positive opinion of. Harris is no longer such a blank slate in the eyes of voters. The proportion of those who say they do not know enough about the Democratic candidate to form an opinion has halved from 12% in June to 6%.
