WHERE DO INDIANS LIVE IN CANADA?

  • India is, without a doubt, one of the marvels of the 21st century from an economic standpoint, especially when viewed in the context of where it was just a century ago. In 1917, India was still part of the British Empire, same as Canada. For hundreds of years, India had been under British control, and had served as the crown jewel for the Eastern portion of the Empire in many ways, a great many of which did not, in turn, benefit the local Indians all that much. Even following the incredible success of the immortal Mahatma Gandhi’s revolutionary non-violent form of protest which in turn let to, well, a revolution, there were doubts about whether or not a nation with such a massive population and internal strife could even feed itself, let alone compete.
And here we are, in 2017, when the question isn’t if India can compete with Canada, the US, the UK, and the rest of the West, but, indeed, how those nations can keep up with the massive manufacturing boom that’s occurring in India. To be clear, not all the manufacturing jobs in the region benefit the overall economy rather than Western interests, but that’s a story for another day. Today, we’re focusing on what happens after just about any nation undergoes the sort of radical transformation India has in the last century-immigration and emigration. The forces of change have led many to leave India as foreign businesses have arrived.
So, what are the best locations for Indian nationals looking to immigrate to Canada? Let’s take a look.
First of all, it should be noted that even the term “Indian-Canadian” is something of a misnomer. India is such a huge and vast subcontinent and country that there are a litany of different ethnicities, languages, cultures, religions and traditions within that overarching umbrella term of “Indian.” That being said, the Canadian government largely tags these groups as all being “Indian-Canadian,” and in any case, no matter what Indian culture you belong to, you’re sure to find a community waiting for you in Toronto. One of the most immigrant-friendly cities in North America, more than half of the entire Indian-Canadian population resides in Toronto. It is home to a wide variety of different Indian cultures, meaning that you have a good chance of finding fellow Indian nationals who more closely fit your own linguistic, cultural, and religious background, rather than merely immigrating somewhere with the semi-helpful moniker of “Indian-Canadian” to guide you.
As English-speaking Canada’s most world-renowned city, Toronto is home to not just the majority of the nation’s Indian-Canadian population-and all the subcultures therein-but likewise has some of the largest and most important Indian structures in the nation. The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Toronto is the nation’s largest Hindu Temple, while the Ontario Khalsa Darbar is Canada's largest Sikh gurdwara.
Vancouver is one of the most popular North American immigration locales, period. This is especially true of individuals looking to immigrate to the Pacific Northwest, Canada, or both.
Vancouver is home to a large Punjabi and Sikh minority. This is notable, as the latter in particular has had difficulty assimilating into American and Canadian society. Hindus are also welcome in Vancouver. Festivals, temples, and large-scale public celebrations of all different forms of Indian heritage and culture are present in the crown jewel of British Columbia. The nearby town of Abbotsford is home to the Gur Sikh Temple. Constructed in 1911, it is the oldest Sikh temple in North America.
One of the many reasons the Pacific Northwest has sprung to life over the past few decades has been its booming computer and tech industries, both of which are likewise huge in India as well. As such, if you’re looking to immigrate to the Pacific Northwest for business opportunities in these fields but do not wish to move to a larger city such as Vancouver or Seattle in the United States, you may want to try Surrey, a smaller but Indian-friendly locale also located in British Columbia.
Surrey is especially welcoming to Indian Sikhs, with as much as 16.3% of the population reporting as such, an impressive number anywhere in North America, especially in the Great White North. April 13th is given over to the celebration of Vaisakhi, an important festival for both Sikhs and the Punjab region of India as a whole, and one which historically commemorates the start of the harvest while carrying strong religious undertones for those of practising Sikhism. In 2008, as many as 100,000 attended. As such, if you’re a Sikh looking to immigrate to the Pacific Northwest for a fresh start or to take advantage of the booming tech sector, Surrey may prove to be a terrific fit.

this video makes no sense. I am an immigrant in Canada from india and if i would have to stick to same indian here in Canada then why in the world i left india? The main problem why immigrant can't mix in a new environment is that they stick to there own people, so they never get a chance to appreciate other cultures.

Like Hindu or sik in Canada ?? 90% of them hate Canadians ... they close themselves off in their own neighbourhoods and destroy them , they open only Indian stores , they only hire themselves , Indian music ,food ,they do NOT interact with Canadians... AT ALL on Canada day their are no East Indians around ... like they all vanished !! And if you do see them they are the only ones not wearing red !! This is shafull. This encourage immigrant groups to segregate from rest of the society. This is very bad for the country as well as to immigrants themselves. In fact immigrants should be encouraged to live in mixed neighborhoods.

    • @johnthom2910
      @johnthom2910 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

lol... It's not segregation, it's congregation. If you moved to some far east country would you want to live in some rural town that has no westerners in it and nobody speaks your language, or in an area that has some westerners and where some people do speak your language? And for how long have major cities each had their own "Little Italy" or "Chinatown?"

    • @jinhocheong5114

Sure but that convenience creates a place and a danger for that culture to isolate itself from the rest of the country. Point is if you stop seeking to understand one another immigrant or not, it breeds ignorance and paranoid fear.

Its actually White people who fly away from the immigrants, not the other way round. What I have noticed is that Whites avoid the Indian-Pakistanis and Blacks most. They would rather live with the Chinese in downtown core than in brown places like Missisauga, Brampton or Scarborough. They actually like the Chinese and Filipino girls. They love Chinese food and the Chinatown. They dislike brown skin most from India-Pakistan- Arab countries most. Even in Universities, there is segregation. Whites are avoiding brown campuses like York, UofT Scarborough and Mississauga and rather going in places where they are less brown people. Western Ontario is almost a White campus and most fly there from Toronto. Its a fact.

But you do have to explain it. Because the rest of us don't understand what you're talking about. People are having fewer kids because they can't afford to have more? No. They are having fewer kids because affluence makes you have fewer kids; when all your kids survive to adulthood, there is no longer an evolutionary imperative to have 7 children.
Which immigrants are having 15 kids? The birth rate in Canada would be rising if immigrants were having so many children. What are you talking about?
Every day someone comes on to this channel ranting about how awful immigration is with some piece of misinformation they heard somewhere. I ask for proof and guess what? Very rarely can anyone even provide a link to back up their claims and they just end up saying terrible things about me or immigrants or both.
Do you have any immigrant birth rate stats? Do you have any government housing stats that show it's used more by immigrants? Do you have any kind of proof that the government is paying immigrants for babies (more than they pay other Canadians)?
When you say your culture is a dying breed, what do you mean? Your culture isn't dying. And if you're using "culture" as a euphemism for Caucasian, well, 78% of this country is Caucasian. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Canada#Visible_minority_population

    • @dsmith9535
      @dsmith9535 6 ปีที่แล้ว

78% Caucasian !!! Where ???? Definetly not in Toronto or Vancover . And as for the canadian Governtment paying anymore for your kids then our kids , no matter how you look at it the Canadian family is now maybe 12 or 2 children and they struggle with that. But immigrantsalways have atleast 5 children hanging off them and working in the non profit for part of my life, it was always the east indian community that knew how to use every system to its max, if it was free or a hand out they were there, by the hundreds.. But dont expect them to put money back into the economy, noooooooo when they go anywhere they dont support restaurants, or local buisness, hell they wont even hire someone who isnt from their culture to do anything. SAY it isnt true all ya want , we have all seen it over and over. The Government has to do something, but all the whiners will not let them or they will be racist.. But toronto and all mayjor cities are getting to many people for their infostructure becasue they will not move anywhere else and if they do they wait until their legal time liimit in that province is up then they head to Toronto

    • @immigroup
      @immigroup  6 ปีที่แล้ว

The country as a whole. Yes the numbers are lower in Toronto and Vancouver and you could find that out for yourself by taking a few seconds and going on wikipedia, or googling it. It's really quite easy.
I will say it isn't true. Prove to me it's true. Put a tiny little bit of effort into supporting your wild claims. (We're down to 5 children? What happened to 15?)
What legal time limit in a province? What are you talking about?

I see lots of hate comments here. Canada should do more to screen who to come to canada, as we witnessed, the south and middle eastern population heavy area such as Surrey, BC and Brampton, ON do have a higher crime rate. There is a correlation but not causation between these minority groups and crime rate. HOWEVER, it is not right for the white people whose ancesters came here decades ago to tell these immigrants to leave or not to come, this is the government's job and repsonsibility, not ours. Comments like "Dont come, or go back!" are just gonna increase tension and does not help the country's goal of multiculturalism. Canada is not just WHITE and the rest, even the whites has tons of many sub-genre (Scottish, german, french, serbian, polish, russian, english etc). Even the Whites are immigrants yourself, you killed tons of Natives (Am i wrong?) This country is built on the foundation of peaceful integration of many cultures of the world, so hateful comments are really not appropriate and in fact u r a shame to the country if u ever think like that or say something like (Go back to your country or stop coming) Canadian's economy cannot be sustained without immigrants because this big piece of land has NOT ENOUGH PPL! So please guys, spare some thoughts and stop all hateful comments and hateful thoughts. U r only embarrassing the country (Canada). Also, people do not and cannot choose where or who to be born from. Dont we all wanna be born wealthy or having tons of privileges? Hell yea! But the fact is most of us r not, so living peacefully is the best bet to survive.

Why is it even necessary to live around your community if you love it that much why would you leave your native country in the first place it's better to socialize with people of different cultures and ethnicities it builds your character and charisma I would rather live around the country native population to experience the real feeling of being canadian and they are much more polite

    • @immigroup

Do most people emigrate because they don't want to be around people like them or do they emigrate because of other reasons, such as economics? It likely depends upon the person.
Have you lived in a foreign country? I have, and I can tell you that even though I lived in a foreign country that is extremely similar to Canada in many ways, I still experienced culture shock and I spent a lot of time with other people in the same situation as me (not Canadian, in my case, but foreigners like me). We could bond over a shared experience.

Yes, Quebec is very cold in winter. There's no part of Quebec that is free of this in the winter. To make things worse (for some people) parts of Quebec are really hot in summer (such as Montreal), hotter than some other parts of the country. Worst of both worlds! (The upsides are many, including how pretty it is, how much cheaper it is and how relatively relaxed it is.)

    • @immigroup
      @immigroup  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Again, immigration policy has barely changed under the Liberals, it's been broadly similar for a very long time so if you object to current immigration policy you are objecting to a long history of immigration policy, as opposed to the current government's policy. If you can point to something that has actually changed under the Liberals, we'd be interested in discussing it. (And if your objection relates to the refugees brought in - a one time thing - remember that a) both the Conservatives and NDP promised to bring in refugees from Syria as well and b) Canada has a precedent of welcoming large numbers of refugees in one-offs, such as with the Vietnamese boat people in the 1970s.)
Do you have a source for "welfare...overrun with migrants"? Of course you don't.
"Third world" is almost always code for "different skin colour" but, pretending your not being racist, immigrants have been coming to Canada from many countries we used to call the "third world" since the 1960s. (Also, the term "third world" is a relic from when there supposedly was a "second world," the communist one. FYI.)

.Thus the larger part of immigrants from India and Sri Lanka are Seik or Tamil. They have done well in Canada .Expecially the older arrivals from India had done extremely well in that 4 out of 24 Cabinet ministers are from that single community and it's quite interesting to note that non of them represent an electorate in Toronto.

Living in the Greater Montreal area, I see many people of Indian origin, and, additionally many second generation ethnics.
But, as you well said, "Indian" is far too vague.
When you then separate Sri Lankan, this also has a bit of a problem. The SriLanakans are Tamils, but they are not the only Tamils.
Tamil,. the language, is one of the oldest languages in the earth, dating back to about 5000 B.C.
It is not derived from the ancient Sanskrit as are many of the northern Indian languages, and a part of Urdu.
Also the common traits of personality are very different from the Indians of Northern India. Generally, Indians from the south tend to be more people oriented, which makes them often good choices for occupations where people skills are of primary importance, such as Sales, Restaurants, etc.
The Indians from the north, tend to be more tough business types, examples are the Gujarats, and the Punjabs. However their aptness in the areas of people skills can vary widely by individual.
As one native Canadian born, I do not fit the usual expectations one might have. I adapt well to ethnicities, and get a lot of fun and good kerma out of it.
Also, cost of living for a fixed income retiree in Quebec is less than would be in Toronto, even though taxes are somewhat higher. Air quality, as I understand it is also better on the average than in Toronto, which, I have heard can make a difference in long term , of life expectancy of somethink like 4 years.
Montreal's climate is somewhat colder, and has notably more snow in the winter, but many people from hot climates find they can adapt well to this. (I think likely this will depend on what age they are when they come here.)

      100+ Answers

      Who really knows?
Hinduism or the Vedic Sanatan Dharma (Hindu is a word of Persian/Arabic origin) is the oldest surviving human attempt to organised faith and belief.
Some say Hinduism has many gods - Some say it has 3 - and some say it has just one - What is the real truth?
      Let’s find out.
Hinduism is perhaps the only religion in the world where the concept of Blasphemy does not exist - so much so that - there’s not even a word for it in Sanskrit.
Hinduism does not have a central book, a central deity, a central list of do’s and don’ts - not even a central prophet, a head priest or a Caliph.
The core principles of Hinduism are derived from the Vedas, which are widely known as the oldest scriptures known to man.
There are 4 Vedas and each Veda has 4 parts:
The Samhitas - Hymns praising God
The Brahmanas - Rituals and practises
The Aranyakas - Meditation and worship - it literally means, from the Jungle.
The Upanishads - The philosophy and the teachings of Hinduism.
So, as you may have guessed by now, the core juicy part of the Vedas lies in the 4th and the final part - the Upanishads. This is the source fountain of all the core philosophies of Hinduism - as we know it.
The Upanishads (also known as Vedanta or the Last Chapters of the Vedas) are at least 200 in number (12 being the Mukhya or the main ones) and primarily comprise of stories or incidents that elucidate the central philosophical concepts of Hinduism - many of whom are even shared by the great religions of Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism.
These Upanishads and all the Vedas speak about just one god - The supreme being - The creator - The Sustainer - The destroyer.
      Let me quote some examples.
      According to Chandogya Upanishad 6:2:1,
      “Ekam Evadvitiyam
Translation: He is One and only, without a second”
      According to Yajurveda 32:3,
      "Na tasya pratima asti
Translation: "There is no image of Him."
      According to Rigveda 1.164.46,
“Indraṃ mitraṃ varuṇamaghnimāhuratho divyaḥ sa suparṇo gharutmān,
ekaṃ sad viprā bahudhā vadantyaghniṃ yamaṃ mātariśvānamāhuḥ
Translation: "They call him Indra, Mitra, Varuṇa, Agni, and he is heavenly nobly-winged Garutmān. To what is One, sages give many a title”
So, if the central philosophies of Hinduism speak about just one God, why are the Hindus seen worshipping so many forms of divinity?
      Well, let’s find out.
Hinduism emphasizes on establishing a personal connection between a person and the supreme being.
A person can choose to even focus on just one aspect of the divinity - which she is free to even give a form - Since there is divinity everywhere - Everything is the creation of the supreme being and thus comes from him.
While describing and establishing the one god, Hinduism encourages the process of questioning (Atma Manthan or Jihad-e-Akbar - Translation: Struggle for Self Discovery, Self reasoning (Ijtihaad) and Self Awareness).
It stimulates the practitioner to find her own meaning and definition of divinity, encouraging the practitioner to make one’s very own and personal connection between her Atma (Translation: Soul) and The Brahman (Translation: The one divine being)
According to Nasadiya Sukta - Rig Veda 10.129.6-7
      यो अस्याध्यक्षः परमे व्योमन्त्सो अङ्ग वेद यदि वा न वेद ॥
      Translation in context
      Who really knows?
Who can proclaim it with certainty?
      When, this creation actually sprang?
Did the Gods came later, after the creation of this universe?
Who then knows when it all started?
      Whether it was the God's will that created it, or whether He was mute;
Only He who is its overseer in highest heaven knows,
He only knows, or perhaps He does not know.
The practitioner of Hinduism or the Vedic Sanatan Dharma has been given the freedom to interpret the one true god in any and every of its manifestations.
The practitioners of Hinduism or the Sanatan Vedic Dharma thus are free to find forms of divinity in a stone, an animal, tree, the sun, the rivers and even an idol.

The divinity in Hinduism can take various forms which are like different paths leading to the same destination.
Over the years, many forms of this divinity have been idolised. Like Brahma which represents the creator, Vishnu which represents the sustainer and Shiva which represents the destroyer - the three together representing the holy trinity or Trimurti of Hinduism.
As the Sanatan Vedic Dharma or Hinduism grew older, many more aspects of divinity were idolised - some even taking the form of celebrated human beings like Rama and Krishna - who were believed to be the Avataars or the reincarnation of the divine.
The numerous idols or manifestations, are meant to symbolise or even personify a divine aspect - enabling the practitioner to dwell upon the one true god in a more tangible manner - The divinity of the supreme being here can be compared to water, which is taking the shape of the utensil, when poured in.
This is the core reason for many to think of Hinduism as a polytheistic religion - which it isn’t - But Who Can Really Know :)
Would like to end this answer with a quote from Shri Krishna:
“Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.” -Shreemad Bhagavad Gita.
Thank you for reading. Cheers and Peace :)

We Muslims, and other Abrahamic religions followers often accuse Hindus as Pagans or polytheists. While Hinduism does have polytheistic elements but at its core its deeply a monotheistic religion with polytheism as part of the monotheistic belief of Hinduism.
Brahman is the supreme God and ultimate reality in the religion. Brahman is the ONLY God and those who deny it are not Hindus by religion. Its as clear as it.
Brahman, the God manifests in main three forms. Brahma is the first form through whom Brahman creates everything. Vishnu is the 2nd form through whom Brahman maintains and takes care

So this is the biggest confusion among people regarding that 33 crore gods.
First of all 33 crore gods concept is a misconception.
33 crore is the the number of demigods, not god and is clearly stated many times in scriptures. Actually, all the 33 core demigods and god are seated in Gau, may be that's why people misinterpret.

      God is one.
So who is god among the most heard- Brahma(the creator), Vishnu(the caretaker), Mahesh(the destroyer)?
Let us analyse step by step. But promise to bear with me till the end.

I prefer the word ‘Sanathana Dharma’ (Eternal Truth) to Hinduism.
Let me share my perspective which I think make logical sense.
First of all, Eternal truth can’t be shrunk into a particular boundary like religion, race, ethnicity.. etc. Like how gravity(which is ever present) can't be given identity,so as it and that’s it.
Sanathana Dharma says God or Almighty is one and it manifests in every being (living and non-living).
      Then why so many gods???
It is pure psychology and nothing else

Get your history right. India was ruled by the British for less than 200 years, not hundreds of years. The British really started to rule India, or large chunks of it only after the Battle of Plassey in 1757, and relinquished power in 1947. Now do the math.

psssst, i'll let you in on a secret. I've lived and worked all over western Canada. the city I would recommend to new Canadians is Winnipeg. it's not expensive to live here. has lots of work. best of all it has more beautiful women than any other city in Canada. on the down side it gets damn cold in the winter and the infrastructure is poor compared to other cities. as for the cities listed in the video. Toronto is simply a shit hole. expensive, dirty, with high unemployment and most people there are assholes. Vancouver isn't much better. it will rain almost non stop in the winter. has some of the highest property crime rates in the world and east hasting's is worse than you will see in some 3rd world countries. surry is part of Vancouver. Calgary is a great city, expensive though. there are also several smaller cities around Calgary like medician hat and red deer.
