NOTE* My bad for bit of mis-information on the video: No singles released before the album! Clearly getting old with a bad memory! Apologies.

i could just be biased because i have been lucky enough to see them live on the car tour. but they all seem so happy and comfortable live nowadays, even the back up percussionists and keyboardists. the setlists of major hits seem to be chosen very wisely as they seem to be ones they still enjoy playing and how they've implemented them into their new sound is very inspiring. im not sure that the tour is really emphasising the new songs more than it is the hits they havent played for decades but the band themselves have said that the reaction to the new tunes when they play them live has been great. as for interviews they havent done very many this time around but the people they do give a chance to be interviewed by all seem like people they are comfortable with compared to alot of 2012-2014 interviews. sorry for the ramble but i also wanted to point out there's theories that all the songs on TBHC are about different people staying at the hotel. like how star treatment is about the retired lead singer of the fictional band 'The Martini Police' and the title track is about the hotels receptionist 'Mark' it's all very interesting actually, would be a good scifi film, gives me cowboy bebop vibes

@@T.I.L.P Anyways wasn’t released or heard until November after the album released. So not sure how it was a teaser to the album or how it could set the mood? Either way it’s a great tune.

@@JawlessToaster clearly my bad memory getting it wrong & some dodgey dates for those singles on spotify when putting the video together!

I'm always happy whenever I see a new TBHC video.
To me, this album was my dark side of the moon(no pun intended). I'll never forget listening to it for the first time, I was anticipating the release ever since its announcement and for some reason, I went into it without any expectations (I told myself whatever happens, happens). I smoked a joint which I never do, got into bed, wrapped myself up like a burrito, made sure my room was nice and dark, closed my eyes and literally within the first lines of the album ( I just wanted to be one of the strokes) I was hooked.
This album means a lot to me and was on repeat for literally years, it will always have a special place in my heart. I do think it's one of the greatest albums of all time, without knowing it, I set myself up that night of may 11th 2018 for a perfect listening experience. I can talk about the album for hours, hell I could write an essay about it, but i'll leave it at that. thanks again for the vid.

I absolutly love TBHC and its also my second favourite album. I honestly love every aspect of the album even the silliest ones hahaha
Also One Point Perspective ia indeed by far one of their best tracks overhaul, I also love Batphone extremly, but Star Treatment is particularly for me an absolute master piece, its lyrics intertwined with the grandeous instrumental mix and tempo amazes even more nowadays. And opening an album so different from their discography like this (especially after their most famous album) with a completly nee instrumental sound followed by the lines "I just wanna be one of the strokes, now look at the mess you made me make" is just fabulous 🤌🏼

Maybe my favourite Monkeys record. Totally agree about its recurring themes of regret and sadness, wrapped up in humour (though I don’t get the ‘retirement home’ bit at all). I think the sci fi element is just a device for Alex Turner to talk about the state of the world and, more particularly, the state of himself at the time it was written. Despite the quirkiness, it feels like he’s giving himself a good kicking at times, and I lean towards thinking that the whole album (because he tells us that it takes the whole album to tell the story) is Alex reflecting on the madness of the TLSP tour, because isn’t some of the tour footage shocking and embarrassing? (it is when I flashback now and then through a handheld device (aka TH-cam on my iPad): ‘now look at the mess you made me make’, ‘golden boy’s in bad shape’, ‘come ‘er kid I think we need to talk’, ‘you love me and you know that things aren’t how they should be’, ‘maybe I was a little too wild in the ‘70’s’, ‘do you celebrate your dark side but then wish you’d never left the house?’, ‘love came in a bottle with a twist off cap’. The ultracheese finally drops the sci fi device (save for one mention of a rocket, cos ‘I can’t help meself’) - isn’t it a heartfelt apology to someone (else) who has been hurt by the shenanigans?

The moon's side boob is something rhythm guitar player Jamie watsisface quipped one time, an Alex just liked the phrase so had found a place to use it

TBHC is one of my faves, so so so well put together. Even though I obviously don’t live in a retirement home for rockstars on the moon, it somehow still manages to relate to someone like me, a 15 year old British girl doing her GCSE’s. Maybe I’m a little biased because it’s the arctic monkeys and basically anything they come out with I’m bound to love but there’s something about this album that just makes me want someone to kiss me underneath the moon’s side boob. I think that’s all there is to say.

  • @anthonyle-ba4398

The way i interperted the “retirement home” imagery was more in the spirit of a metaphorical hotel, at some points i am immersed in the physical descriptions/atmosphere of the place, at others i think its a metaphor for a place of tranquility, a mental escape, a retreat. Thats just my take though, good video!

Was super disappointed when it came out. Back in the day, I was addicted to strong catchy melodies and I expected TBHC to overcome AM and all the previous LPs in these terms but on the contrary, it made me fully fall for the Strokes as there were only pieces of that catchiness that I was looking for.
Nonetheless, The Car changed everything. Following the same retro experimental style, The Car appeared to be more ear-friendly. I was amazed by Sculptures of Anything Goes and Body Paint, so it helped me to eventually get into the not-pop-melody-based style and enjoy TBHC. For today, I adore the majority of the songs for these 2 LPs and I can't wait to hear what's coming next.
PS I do believe that we will hear some riff-based and heavy tracks from Monkeys in the future. They made dramatic changes to their style multiple times, so I guess it's not over yet 😏

Expectations lead to disappointment. Makes sense that a 21 year old wouldn't like it. The album does not have hooks or riffs and therefore lends itself to repeat listens. Nice vid.

After listening to The Car when it came out definitely Tranquility base hotel and casino is way better, it sets a better mood and it is a more memorable album, The Car is too forced and doesn't have anything that made it a great album in my opinion, just an opinion
