And it aint none of your business what people do with their own hard earned money. And while I'll admit that I'm not going to pay $60 for it, but maybe when it gets cheaper, it's a lot cheaper than going out and buying a wii system and the original game.

I have friends who've only played breath of the wild and are thinking about getting this game but don't understand what a normal Zelda game is like. This is perfect.

IMO this game is a great introduction to the usual Zelda formula after BOTW because of its focus on puzzle solving and dungeons
My 2 best friends have only beaten botw (one of them has played a little bit of zelda 1 and watched me play skyward sword, while the other has made decent progress in a link to the past)
ive onky played botw then moved to link in time on snes. this game would be my last choice because the regular wii version is cheaper and the same exact thing as this switch version. this isnt worth $60, its not even worth $20 cuz its an emulation, which u could get for free

The majority of people won't have played this before, so it makes sense they're showcasing it this way. Pretty sure they did the same thing for Windwaker and Twilight Princess HD when they came out.
@@bradaloop Still, TP and WW Hd's had massive improvements in gameplay and little things to make your life easier. The TP wolf sections were shorter and WW had a shorter triforce quest. We havent seen anything like that from this game. Which is a shame, I love this game but there were definatly some things they can improve or do to make our life easier. Not to mention it is more expensive now than it was in 2011.
That's because they haven't changed anything. Mapping motion controls to the right stick is worth full price to Nintendo

I hope that they atleast changed that. Just like the tears of light in Twilight princess. Every HD remake made some quality of life improvements but Skyward sword doesn't really have that much accept better controls and a amiibo that you have to buy first.

So far we haven't really seen any new gameplay feature other than the one locked behind the amiibo. Hope that changes in the upcoming weeks. I'd at least like to see Hero mode available from the start.
Also, Nintendo is very sneaky, they haven't flat-out confirmed you can't use button controls while the Switch is docked (edit: I stand corrected). But I'll still use the joy-cons as wiimote and nunchuk 'cause my right stick has drift lol (I can't send them to get fixed, I live in South America!)
Handheld mode is pretty big i think

if it works on the switch lite then I'm assuming it will work with normal controls in docked mode. Also i'm pretty sure in the intial annocuncement they confirmed that they added the controls to the stick, so it is usable on the controllers and lite

Thats the reason many people think the controls on the Wii didn't work, because most of the people complaining just didn't use their controllers correctly. I for myself never had any issue with them, so for a long time I couldn't understand the critisims.
Man the music in this game is so good.
I don't care what people say: skyward sword is my favorite zelda game of all time. the story, the humor, the playing, and especially the music.
It's my second favorite anyway and for all the reasons you said. I cannot wait to go back!

This looks nice, but the only quality of life improvements seem to be optional button controls, and the one locked behind the Amiibo. I wish there were more because the HD ports of Twilight Princess and especially Wind Waker had more than this.
There seems to be some hints of alterations to Fi's dialogue, according to UK listing. But, to what extent, we don't yet know.

They just announced and put on the official site they made "refinements to player tutorials and general guidance"
Whatever that means. Some people believe Fi is toned down and they removed multiple item animations. We will see when everyone gets a copy and reviews come out.

I only recently played it about 2 years ago cause it was on my list of 3D Zelda games I haven't played. I bought wind waker HD at the same time cause I also haven't played wind waker I really enjoyed both of them, I tackled wind waker first cause I didn't have any batteries for my Wiimote

This was my first Legend of Zelda game. I was really little, maybe 5 or 6, even younger! I have a lot of great memories of this game. Can't wait to play it again at 17 this time.

The first time I fought demise I found it pretty easy, the second time however I had more hearts and more potions and I struggled for quite a while even dying and having to go back several times getting new potions and fairies every time. I feel like demise is super inconsistent with his difficulty.
Dude the motion controls for dueling were great before I can't wait to see how incredible they'll be with something as powerful as a modern joycon

Honestly, I think the wii remote had better motion control than joy cons. They're awful in games like Mario Galaxy, while it was amazing on the wii.

Just download dolphin, a 4k texture pack, and run the game in a resolution you preffer. There is no reason to pay Nintendo $60 for what could be sold for $25 maybe . Since, all Nintendo did was edit the game config file can selling that edit of the game on a rather poor emulator on the switch .
@ I don't think button controls, re-worked Fi dialogue system, bug fixes (watch a speedrun), skippable text and cutscenes, were all a config file. Some of them yeah probably, but definitely not all.

This trailer felt like a walk-through of the game instead of 'check out this new game' trailer.
Well, it’s a decade old, it really isn’t a “new” game.
They've done this before (e.g. with Mario Odyssey, in which they spoiled a lot of surprises, and surprises were the only truly enjoyable thing about that game, tbh). These trailers suck imo - "Quick, get people hyped for a game we're currently relying on selling by telling them everything about it!"
The worst part is, they work - a trailer that spoiled a lot of SM3DW got people hyped about it after the initial negative reaction to it when it was announced for Wii U, and, like I mentioned earlier, Odyssey had this kind of trailer towards launch, and look how well that sold! (That wasn't the only factor in its commercial success, of course, but it probably still helped.)

Ye, I could not see much of the hype for Odyssey myself. People gave it high praise, but I can just say it may be the best Mario game, but for me that is not saying much since the story is always the same bland thing that does not really make since until Game Theory shows up. And truth be told, Game Theory is probably wrong...in that they did not put any of that stuff down on purpose, or if they did, then they are NEVER going to do anything with it even though it makes for a lot more interesting story than, "Bowser captured princess again."

@@TMS-Oddbot Well, how much does story matter in a mainline Mario game? Sure, it's neat when they do more with it (like Galaxy increasing the presentation and having the Rosalina's storybook stuff), but ultimately, the story in a mainline Mario game is basically there for context for why Mario's running and jumping everywhere. In Sunshine, it was him clearing his name after being framed by Bowser Jr. for polluting Isle Delfino.
We need Switch remakes for: OoT, Majoras Mask, Windwaker and Twilight Princess !!

That would potentially be great, depending on how they decided to handle the remakes. Here's what I think would be best for each of them:
*Wind Waker:* The best for it would be something of a mix between the original and the Wii U remake. From the Wii U remake, it should keep the more vibrant colors & lighting (minus the bloom) and the new shadow effects, the remade music, the various QoL improvements (except for how quickly the grappling hook hits the floor of the ocean when used on the boat to receive sunken treasure), and the swift sail. From the original, it should keep the full cel-shading (in the remake, Toon Link sometimes looks like a mii rather than a cartoon). Finally, it should also have a version of the game with the cut content such as the two missing dungeons and the undersea segments of the temple dungeons added back in (with the idea being that the original version in terms of content can still be played).
*Twilight Princess:* Take the Wii U remake, make the Wolf Link amiibo feature no longer tied to amiibo, and upgrade the visuals a bit more.
*Ocarina of Time:* Take the graphics from the 3DS remake, greatly improve the textures and go further in realizing the look of the original artwork, get rid of the over-brightening in the dungeons and Ganon fight, fix the, for lack of a better way of describing it, "air hockey" movement animations, and put the missing textures (namely bloodstains on the walls and stuff like that) back in the Bottom of the Well mini-dungeon.
*Majora's Mask:* Start with the original game rather than the remake, add the expanded bomber's notebook and owl-statue-saving, and update the graphics in subtle ways; this is one game whose N64 graphics have arguably actually aged well, since it looks kind-of like watching a horror movie on VHS: the resolution actually adds to the eeriness, so it honestly should remain subtle in its graphical changes.

One of the best stories in a zelda game
Everyone who hasn't played this: MASTER THE SHIELD BASH TIMING WITH EVERY ENEMY! This is crucial for keeping your shield from breaking, your life from depleting, and keeping your enemy off balance (which you will need!).
Enjoy this epic story, which is the only game that's ever brought a tear to my eye! and also, she's annoying, but if you actually use Fi, she has more info about more things than any Zelda game ever has and the attention to detail with her knowledge is amazing- from locations to enemies to the NPC's you encounter. If you like that kind of stuff, it goes really deep!
The story was good. Gameplay was poor especially when you had to use the motion controls which was all the time.
@@roarinworldwide7892 I find that subjective. I never really had a problem with them, but I know people that hate them, and the pros outweigh the cons to me. I'm going to try it both ways, since the Joy Con motion control is more reliable than Wii motion plus, and I can't wait to try it with just the buttons/sticks since I've never done it before and I love the game. I can't begrudge anyone for hating motion controls, though, to each his own.

Speedruns of Nintendo games almost always ban amiibos by default. I can't think of an exception off the top of my head.
@@elephantyarn7378 Zelda BotW has many main categories that allow the use of amiibos, so that's a pretty strong precedence when comparing to another Zelda game with useful amiibo mechanics
the speedrun is already going to be super boring because we won’t be able to do the back in time glitch. and nintendo tends to patch glitches in hd versions of the game, so they might patch brake sliding and extending blow as well. can’t wait for a 6 hour speedrun 🙂

Well tbf l get that BiT shouldnt work without the reset-button, OoT3D and MM3D also had glitches patched and but those speedruns are still cool, especially since they've got unique glitches all of their own! Let's wait how buggy/non-buggy the game actually turns out to be before writing off the speedruns in their entirety :]
@@Sponsie1000 that is true, there could be some interesting glitches having to do with the fact that the animation is in 60fps but the physics is in 30fps. but the original game didn’t have that many glitches outside of what BiT could do, and it doesn’t look like Nintendo changed much at all for this remake, so i’m not getting my hopes up.

This is such an underrated Zelda game. Yes it had a little more goofiness than other ones, but it also has some great tense moments too! The world is so pretty and vibrant and I love the concept of the sky!
I just hope they take advantage of this “second chance” of sorts to buff out some things. I really want more to explore in the sky. The game lacked where Wind Waker also lacked. A so called Open World game but anything really worth looking out outside of the main storyline was few and far in between.
I don’t think that Skyward Sword is trying to be an open-world game. The sky is meant to provide a break from the puzzles, so in a sense it’s more similar to Hyrule field than the great sea. But yes I agree it needs more content. It’s not a particularly enjoying break lol
@@birdcar7808 Agreed, Skyward Sword absolutely was not trying to be an open-world game. If anything, BotW being an open-world was a response to how much Skyward Sword wasn't one.
It's the only mainline Zelda game I never finished because I hated it so much
even back in e3 2011, the developers said that the SS overworld is “one giant dungeon”. You navigate through it and find and unlock shortcuts so it’s easier to backtrack. It was never meant or implied to be open world

Regardless of the criticisms involved in their re-releasing this on this year's Zelda anniversary, this game was sorely in need of a re-release anyway.
The Wii was a poor system to keep this game exclusive to, especially with the "gimmicks" of the Wiimote involved, whereas most other Zelda games have been re-released several times over on many systems by now. It's time this game saw a new means of availability.
Did they really have to charge full price for it though (and without making any substantial changes that would warrant that price tag)? You could get it on Wii U virtual console for $20.

Gimmicks? The motion controls worked great. Sprinting and swinging the Wii remote was so Satisfying to do a forward slash and the 1:1 sword was very responsive to your movements. Why is it so difficult to swing a Wii remote in a particular direction. Never played the hd remaster, but using analog to direct your sword to slash an enemy in the required direction to damage it, you can't take that out of the game. Analog control would be a nightmare I would think
I know the fans were kinda divided when this was announced, but I'm looking forward to it. Before _Breath of the Wild_ took the crown, _Skyward Sword_ was my favorite _Zelda_ title -- the saturated colors and slight stylization made the game stand out visually, and the tweaks they made to the gameplay were well-executed and opened the door to some really clever puzzles and bosses.
More than anything, though, it's easy to look back on _Skyward Sword_ as the prototype of _Breath of the Wild_ -- the expanded traversal mechanics, the broad world, the environmental puzzle design, the variety in the combat encounters, the stamina meter and crafting systems... all of them were expanded on in _BotW_ to incredible effect, and this was the game that let them test out those new approaches to how a _Zelda_ game could be done.

@@lagrush9039 That's an area where the Switch's hardware might be able to improve on the original. The Wii Remote controls for the Harp were kinda token, and I felt like it was the weakest part of an otherwise brilliant game -- but with the Joy-Con controllers, they could switch up the movement so it feels like you're _actually_ strumming the strings. I _hope_ they do that.

As someone who was never able to play skyward sword when it was released, I’m hyped for this 😍
This was one of the best games on the Wii. The Wiimotes responded so well. I can't wait to see how great the joycons perform.
Hands down the best motion control game I’ve ever played. I know a lot of people complain about it but I’m convinced they didn’t center their sensor or recalibrate their Wiimotes. Luckily this newer version will have even better motion controls. Looking fwd to playing this again!!! LOZ is the GOAT!!!!!
I don't see myself personally picking up the game because of the pricing, but I'm happy to see Nintendo still embrace the idea of motion control. It's perfect for the Switch and games like Arms further show the concept is still really fun
I literally had to recalibrate my wiimote every 5 minutes with this game which made it a lot longer than it should've. I still had a lot of fun though but the controller issues make this the zelda game that took me longer to beat.

@@argo9721 yeah I’m convinced those people were impatient and didn’t understand how to properly position their sensor and recalibrate their wiimote. I’m sure some people tried it without the Wiimote plus as well which Nintendo clearly stated we needed for the game.

I'm a big Zelda fan and let me tell you this game has everything. Incredible story, the best characters development, amazing dungeons, gorgeous musics and powerful cutscenes full of emotions. It's the only Zelda game that bring me tears at the end.

As a lefty myself, I actually apreciated that Link was left handed. It is pretty rare to see in video games, but all that changed after the Wii 😕.

Skyward Sword was the very first Zelda game I ever owned, and I can say with absolute confidence that it is a masterpiece. I never understood why I didn’t get anymore recognition than it did. I cannot recommend this game enough to anyone on the fence about whether or not to buy it!!

@@bigballrecall I thought the motion control were great! Granted, I hadn’t played Twilight Princess before I experienced Skyward, so the whole idea to me was really cool and new. I can definitely understand why people would be turned off by them, but they function flawlessly in-game and really supercharge the immersion.
They took the most beautiful art style in a Zelda game EVER and made it not blurry. Add in the improved motion controls, the 60fps, and (correct me if I'm wrong) the reduced time spent in item animations (one and done, I believe), and you've got a great game. Definitely worth it in my opinion!

Now the motion controls are good enough to actually serve this game right and these improvements do make the game better.

@@Wackaz Maybe not for you, but then again I already love Skyward Sword as is so I don't think they need to change a whole bunch anyways. I'd also like hero mode available at the start, as well as a left-hand mode for others who happen to be lefties (I'm a righty but still). I'm not sure what you would ask for to make it "enough" but honestly this seems like a great package as is - albeit a little too pricey (but Nintendo knows people will eat up their IPs anyways so hey, more power to them.)

It's depressing that this "HD remake" has literally no improvements from the Wii version (that aren't locked behind Amiibo) and is still being priced at 60$. This is a port of a Wii game from 2011 with no sizable improvements being given a full price tag, when the direct port of Skyward Sword on the Wii U which is basically the same thing was priced at 20$. Why do people defend Nintendo's crappy business practices again?

Not a defense, but these are usually only good for people who have never had the game. Mariokart 8 Deluxe, Pikmin 3 Deluxe, etc. This isn’t really the case.
I mean, it's HD now, so that makes it look like a more modern game, and worth the $60 since the original was $60. Not a lot of people had a Wii U and even less got the port on that system, this is probably just not made for them.
The people defending Nintendo are part of the problem. It would have only been worth 60 bucks if they included the Amiibo with every copy or added new content.
It's even worse when you compare It to Xenoblade DE, which was also a Wii game but recieved a completely different treatment.

It absolutely isnt the worst Zelda game, its one of my favorites actually. the only problem with this port is that its triple the original price.
People says it's the worst just for the controls but actually are one of the best things in the game. Skyward sword is a masterpiece, don't believe those people that say is bad. :)

Remember folks, if the Amiibo's out of stock then Nintendo loses nothing if you buy an unlicensed NFC tag containing the same data for a fraction of the price. It's still cruddy to have the feature locked behind Amiibo functionality in the first place, but if you just want the functionality and don't care about the figure as much this option will be readily available!

I think alot of people missed the biggest change and needed feature aside from the fast travel amiibo. The combat can be put on buttons rather than motion controls...
@Roland Sharp I mean there are statues for fast travel and saving literally everywhere so it was already pointless. It might look good on a shelf if the scalpers dont get it first.

I know we are generally moving in this direction, but PLEASE can we get every 3D zelda on the switch? You don't need to do stuff to all of them, just straight ports are fine. Majora's Mask, Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, ALL of them! And honestly, more remasters of the 2D games would be great too like Link's Awakening. I will literally buy every single one. Outsource the ports to other devs, get them done quick.
I really hope they will do that since it would be very profitable for them and we could all play them again

The most common thing I hear when people talk about this game is how underwhelming it is. I, however, loved this game to bits when I first played it, and I had a really dumb grin on my face when I saw this announced.
I didn't enjoy it when I played it but I'm glad you like it and are looking forward to it.
Maybe it's still in the usual "Zelda circle"...like MM and WW were back then not that popular, now they are favourites of most. ;) The criticism is definitely overblown, it's still a very good game.
I literally only want the amiibo cause I think it’s pretty. Like I love this iteration of Zelda and how happy she is in that pose. I’m just hacked that people are actually gonna screw us casuals over.
