A Mississippi River Smallie Fishing Adventure!

- A fun filled day exploring and fishing smallmouth bass on the upper Mississippi River in Minnesota! This trip is from late May a few years back and I floated a stretch with a group of fellow smallie addicts including @smallietalkpodcast5821 @HoosierStateFishing and several others. Lots of fish were caught and good times were had by all!

All he does is slay smallmouth bass! His videos are the best along with Creek Fishing Adventures. Wish I had his local waters to fish here on the east coast!

Most of my lakes here in southern Colorado had Ice off last week. I bought a new a new old Town PDL 106 last fall. Finally get to use it. Super stoked.
Same here it just snowed last night about 2.5 inches
Still lightly snowing here as of 10am. I feel your pain, getting anxious to get the canoe out.
Same over here in Ontario looking out at the snow and just twiddling my thumbs.
I feel for you guys! Granted that my location has its own cons, it's still mostly great fishing weather here in Florida.
I always enjoy your videos. Very calming voice and that makes me watch the entire video. No annoying music, no stupid video graphics. Just the pure content of fishing. Thank you for that.

Thanks for sharing your adventure. It's always interesting to catch fish when they are on the beds, reel them in and release them and they instinctively swim back to the bed. They are definitely smarter than we often give them credit for being. The Mississippi is truly a small mouth fishing paradise.
Ahhhh, green grass, leaves on the trees, and birds chirping......Spring can't come soon enough!! Great trip!
What an amazing looking time that was Matt. I was born in Memphis and have seen the Mississippi many times but NEVER with that kind of clarity...by the time it get's down there it's nothing but trash, poop, and mud...lol. We see the same here in Parkersburg on the Ohio. It's VERY rare to have more than just a few inches of visibility.

No kidding! I grew up below New Orleans, where the Mississippi River is a couple hundred feet deep and very muddy. Around August-September we would fish at night off the pontoon ferry landing at Pointe A La hache. The river was typically at its lowest, and saltwater fish swam upriver in search of food.
It is strange to see these guys walking in just a couple feet of water in that same river. Plus the clarity!

You know something, the very first video I watched from you was when you caught a big Musky on 14 lbs line, no leader. And that was the very first video that I ever seen and heard of a smallmouth bass. When you caught one, I was like “ what kind of bass is that?” And that’s how I’ve started watching your videos in the first place. 🎣👍

Crazy how abundant the fish seem to be there, they look healthy and are of great size. I live in a small town, old folks around here talk about how much wildlife has died off from the mining industry dumping waste into the streams. When I fish here if I were to catch a single smallie the size of those that you caught in the Mississippi, I'd consider it a trophy here. It brings me some joy to know that other places seem to be somewhat untouched from pollution and destruction. The fish live to see another day.

Great fishing action, Matt! But the scenery, Brother, that is incredible! Every few seconds it was like seeing a moving masterpiece painting, the river is so beautiful there.

I sure miss the sound of the blackbirds and Orioles during winter. Looking forward to spring and the trees blooming, and of course the small mouth bite that comes when the river valleys begin to thaw.

It was😂 we were in the 50’s with no snow for like 2 weeks like beginning of February. but now it’s cold and there is snow😭
Not in northeast Mn by the big lake! Virtually no snow & steady 30 degrees last 2 months. 😂. Warmest winter ever! Hoping we don't get slammed soon 😅

Not allowed to fish for bass during the spawn where I live, not even catch and release with artificials. Looking forward to opening day. Smallies fight hard and never give up. So much fun.

Besides always providing great content, the part that is enjoyable is that he "plays" the fish in vs speed reeling it on the top of the water. Unless you are fishing a tournament, I don't get the need to ski a fish in as fast as you can. Fighting the fish is all part of the enjoyment of being on the water.

The Upper Mississippi seems to be the smallmouth capitol!
I love wading rivers and streams no deeper than 2 feet during the spring here in CT. Pleasant comfy weather with the water not running too strong and being clear enough to spot fish, esp stocked trout.
This winter has given me the itch bad! I cant wait to get back on the water!
