- This weekend I can present to You the full Drive & Sound test with the new 2016 / 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS 500/550 4Matic powered by a 4.7 liter Twin-Turbo V8 delivering 455 hp and a whopping 700 Nm of torque. When I first got into the vehicle I was not expecting to have this much fun. I was anticipating a heavy and huge vehicle only being made for the US-market but what I got to drive for 2 days was really convincing, truly. Especially the revised V8 is a real joy. As you know that I drove the recent CLS 500 just a few weeks ago I can tell you that there's definitely more punch from this engine! But the steering and suspension is probably what really makes this car a proper one, also for European roads. Mercedes has understood how to set up the steering to feel very settled and sporty on curvy roads, yet being easy to handle while being in town. Also from a damper side it seems that they have given the GLS a similar setting to what GLE and GLC have, let's call it comfortable & stable. A great vehicle suited best in the United States unlike in Europe. Problem is that people don't know how to drive smaller SUV's in size already as it is. You'll notice it on a daily basis, it's remarkable.
And just so you know it's the X166. I hate it when that information ain't given.

I could really envision this being my family car, really great quality and space, if I had the money of course. The fuel consumption is around 11-12 liters on everyday driving.
Fuel consumption is not a big problem, the maintenance is. Ecology tech just makes it a money pit because it damages the engine

Hallo AutomannTV, mal wieder ein gelungenes Video. Dankeschön! Hab mal ne kurze Frage jetzt nicht zum GLS - und zwar wollte ich Sie als Experte (kann man ja schon sagen) fragen:
Wie finden Sie 258 Diesel-PS im CLS350d(haben sie noch nicht getestet, dafür aber ähnliche Videos mit 258 PS im Mercedes)
Reicht das aus um mit einem ich sag mal z.B. 272 PS Audi mitzuhalten? Das ist halt nun Mercedes' stärkster Diesel. Finden Sie da muss "mehr" kommen. Natürlich sind 258 PS nicht gerade wenig, reicht eigentlich auch vollkommen aus, aber gegenüber der Konkurrenz siehts schon ein bisschen 'öde' aus.

Der Mercedes-Diesel mit 258 PS hat den Vorteil, dass er 620 Nm hat und damit fast das gleiche Drehmoment wie bei Audi / BMW in der 300 PS Diesel-Klasse. Daher geht der subjektiv gesehen sehr gut, ähnlich wie ein 272 PS Diesel bei Audi. Grüße!

Could you please help me and make a video of the engine like put a glass of water on top so we cam see the shaking ? We are trying to diagnose a this engine and don't know the factory shaking amd vibration at idle. Unfortunately there is only one engine in my region. Thank you very much friend

Schon 2 Stück auf Automann-TV:) Cabrio und Coupé...
Alles schön und gut, aber aerodynamisch bestimmt eine Katastrophe wie so ziemlich jeder SUV, naja aber dafür sind sie ja auch nicht gebaut, trotzdem würde es mich interessieren, wie der Wagen sich so auf der Autobahn bei höheren Geschwindigkeiten verhält und V-max, Leistung hat er ja.
+LastWish90 Max konnten wir in Österreich leider nicht testen, jedoch lag der Wagen bei 140 km/h so ruhig auf der Straße, dass man ihm auch 250 km/h zutraut, wenn da nicht der Luftwiderstand vorher einbremst;) Wir hatten vor einigen Monaten den GLE 63s und der fuhr absolut problemlos Tacho 270, den Luftwiderstand hat man kaum gemerkt.

Wie viel hat er im Durchschnitt verbraucht?
Wir haben ehrlicherweise bei dieser Tour gar nicht auf den Verbrauch geschaut, der wäre ohnehin nicht aussagekräftig wenn man filmt und immer wieder anhält und den Motor laufen lässt. Ich hatte ja den CLS 500 mit sehr ähnlicher Antriebseinheit, der lag im Gesamtschnitt ca. 11 Litern Super. Ich denke hier ist es auf Grund des Aufbaus und Gewicht wohl 1-2 Liter mehr, gemessen an der Performance aber immer noch fair.
Automann-TV Ja aber wenn man bedenkt das das so ein riesen Ding ist mit V8 Benziner geht das ... wir haben eine alte Mercedes S Klasse (W126) den 420se mit V8 und der verbraucht auch so 11-12 Liter
Wäre es möglich den neuen Audi Q7 unter die Lupe zu nehmen?

+My Life an other Puh, schwierige Frage die für mich am Ende auch durch den Preis entschieden werden müsste. Der Macan ist ohne Zweifel das bessere Auto, der Innenraum, die Luftfederung (Komfort) und die sportlichen Gene sind ohne jeden Zweifel erhaben. Der 258 PS Diesel ist auch klasse nur kommt er gegen den BiTurbo aus dem Audi nicht ganz an. Ich würde den Macan Diesel fahren und schauen ob dir der Motor "genügt"....wenn die Preisdifferenz nicht allzugroß ist dann würde ich den Porsche nehmen.

SUV version of the S class. Would definitely consider it if it was smaller.
