It's in the PAL PS2 version as well. The PAL version seems to be generally closer to the Japanese version than the North American version. Off the top of my head there's a minor puzzle which was also "cut" (deactivated and the player is given an alternate route) in the NA version which is still present in the PAL version. The PAL version also has bonus options on the pause screen once you complete the game the first time, which include different visual filters and subtitles for all "speech" in the game.

I decided to let the secret ending be done along with the trophy for beating in the time limit, for 2 minutes I almost lost the speedrun trophy, but everything worked out! 😂
