It’s crazy how much work Xiong does in this series, as he’s in essentially all of them wether he’s doing stunt kicks for jet li or playing side characters (a goon in the first film, the white lotus leader in the second and then club foot in the rest)
21:55 the scene has a spiritual martial art choreography and the music is mind blowing. With the combine it makes ten times better. It first start with the soft Wong Fei Hong theme song in the beginning of the fight, then phase 2 the theme become more intense which it gives me goosebumps. And it won't get out of your head after you finish the movie, it still keeps going in your brain.
I haven't seen 2 in a while, but I don't remember being bored in the middle. But I have seen 1 recently while showing it to a friend, and he absolutely got bored at the beginning of the movie. 2 was smart for starting off with a bang of a fight scene, which 1 doesn't get for some time.
Once upon a Time in China and America being ranked over Once Upon a Time in China 2 is just criminal dude. I love that you did this list (it's my favorite movie series ever and I'm someone who also loves the iconic series Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, so that should explain how dope these movies are to me) but you should be arrested for that one.
I just got done watching this Criterion series. I’ve never seen part IV and V until now but grew up with the others. I’ve seen the Jet Li films so many times and this series is probably my favorite series of all-time due to Wong Fei-Hung and his character and Jet Li’s portrayal f the legendary folk hero! I can appreciate your list. My list goes: Once Upon A Time In China I China II China III China In America China V China IV The first sets everything up so naturally it is the perfect film! It can’t do wrong because it was the first! I really like that the Native Americans are included in part VI. I agree with you that When Jet Li and Rosamund Kwan are absent in the 4th that makes it even less enjoyable. The 5th film however was extremely entertaining and was at least a fun martial arts/action film with most recurring actors. Good review!
Great video. For me, the first is possibly my personal favourite Jet Li movie. Not too sure if I would put 2 below America. I respect your opinion and a great watch as always!
You need swordsman 2, Legend of the Red Dragon, Swords of Dragon Gate, Romeo Must Die, Cradle 2 The Grave (R.I.P. DMX & Aaliyah) and Kiss of the Dragon.
I'm with you on OUATIA I was highly entertained by it and it was one of my favorites too, love the western aspect of it mixed with awesome kung fu,for sure the first was the best and 2 was also very good,3 I just remember clup foot and a bunch of lion costumes and no memorable fight scene that I can remember,4 and 5 I have not seen because I purchased the Eureka set and it did not include those,thinking about getting the Criterion to have the complete set and the nice artwork,it really looks cool in your collection there,thanks for the great video.
If I had to rank them I think I'd have the exact same list as you. Not sure if I watched the non-Jet Li ones or they were just so forgettable, but I know the Jet Li ones and #1 and #6 are my favourites.
The first two films are the best, in my opinion. And I’d put part 3 as the worst. When it comes to 4, 5 and 6, I’m not quite sure. I think I preferred 4 to 5. I need to rewatch a few but I think my final list , from best to worst, would be 1, 2, 6, 4, 5, 3. 6 and 4 are subject to switching though.
I have to say that I love all of the films in the series, but I have a hard time sitting through any of them from start to finish. Because....yes...there are scenes that are so boring. But I love them all. Maybe the least interesting to me is the third movie. And Once Upon.....and America has the best pace. But other than that, I can´t really say.

The action scene in the barn in the first part was mainly performed by Xiong Xinxin, because Jet Li broke his ankle
