"The Savage Five" (1974) Shaw Brothers; "Enter The Deadly Dragon" (1978) - Dragon Lee; "The Real Bruce Lee" (1979) Dragon Lee; "Super Ninjas" (1982); "Mad Monkey Kung Fu" (1979); "Fists of the White Lotus" (1980); "The 36th Chamber of Shaolin" (1978); "Lady Kung Fu” (1972). IN WHAT KUNG FU MOVIE DID THEY MANUFACTURE IRON UMBRELLAS TO DEFLECT THE ATTACK OF THE FLYING GUILLOTINE?

Sammo Hung is my favorite martial arts actor, I did get to watch Iron Fisted Monk, Shaolin Plot, Knockabout, Warriors Two, & The Prodigal Son at Friday late night screenings in the early 80's, & did get to watch all these films again at cinema screenings over the last few years. I did get to see Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In & can't wait for this film to be released on Blu-ray or 4K.

overall decent review, I would disagree though at that everything else was awful, I thought there were many funny non fighting scenes, also the swimming pool scene with all the girls was pretty hot and at the same time incredibly aggravating seeing Jason our main man getting tossed around like that, not to mention ruining his relationship for a bit, nonetheless I thought your points were spot on with the fighting, I enjoy the crap out of the final fighting scenes, I think I watched it maybe 10 or 15 times in the past few months, its an incredible film though, also I wish we got more time with the original sensei like in the beginning of the film, his taijutsu is badass!

Interesting to know that Brahim doesn't try to watch too much of the martial arts action out there right now so that it doesn't interfere with his creative thought process. Makes sense in a way considering that having all of the contemporary choreography in films these days swimming in your head might cause you to subconsciously copy too much of it and prevent as much originality in your own work. With that said, despite Monkey Man being compared to John Wick because of the more grounded slower-paced hand-to-hand combat, it's quite different namely in the lack of gunplay (or gun-jutsu as they sometimes label it) and more intense camerawork. Great directorial debut from Dev Patel and I hope he collaborates with Brahim again soon.

In the fourth film, a character in the tournament wears a shirt with Mark Dacascos Kung Fu on it, the producers wanted Sasha Mitchell to come back for the fifth film, when he didn't, they replaced him with Mark Dacascos, but I think the shirt was just a coincidence (in real life, Mark Dacascos had won various tournaments in different martial arts, including that he'd been European kung fu champion)

The final fight in this is genuinely absolutely masterful, kudos to Bill for getting in such shape and physical ability to keep up with arguably one of the fastest and most skilled martial artists today, Dawid Szataraski too on the fight choreo duties was 👌🙏🔥 to be able to develop such a unique, acrobatic fighting style for a lead not usually known for action of this caliber and training him to perform all of it so adeptly is mind blowing. The rest of the film….. oof.

Did NOT understand the exaggerated hate on this movie I mean…okay okay, there’s a few “generic hitman” themes-I guess & there’s a bit more I would’ve liked to explore, him & his best friend’s origin, what it was that he did to save his friend’s life (Gao? Forgot spelling so-) Anyway, but leaving it ambiguous was fine as well…I mean the audience doesn’t need to be a genius to have a pretty good idea on how or what happened. Maybe more interesting if the friend didn’t go against him so easily at first? He struggles w/it by the end, yes. Think we should’ve seen that struggle earlier-cause during their 1st encounters (after Gao declines his hit)-his friend is all for getting him. Then again, his friend seemed to expect that he was gonna make it out, but even during the pincer attack when him & the Columbians have him cornered at the apartments? But I loved this show. THIS scene? Hooked, immediately. Completely set the tone of the bleak & dread of this killer’s life-& that THAT was the last straw for him. One of my favorite opening scenes actually. CRIMINALLY unknown film, truly

Glad to see you back man! I'd personally rank Bloodsport 2 over Bloodsport 1 (Haven't seen 3 or 4 yet), I also prefer the fights in the sequel significantly more than the first and I liked the characters, actors and acting between the two about the same. Though James Hong killed it as the teacher character in the movie in my opinion. Really the only things I prefer from the first Bloodsport is the cinematography, locations and sets, the movie looked great and actually getting to see footage shot in and around Kowloon walled city is a fun time. I do think Bloodsport 1 is a fun movie just like you but I really do just have a preference to the sequel.
