I think same thing happen to UK, you can get free land by donating or something like that. You can also get a certificate.
But pretty sure it's just charity with creative way to reward donators

Because no country can legally lay claim to it, technically anyone can say they own a portion of it and then sell off those portions (roughly, it's more complex than that though). Pretty meaningless however because you obviously can't go to the moon and build something there to show that you own that bit, and no one (afaik) recognises the claims these companies say they have on areas of the moon, so if/when any state wants to build a base or mine somewhere or whatnot they're not really going to care that you paid money to "own" some bit of the moon and will just do their thing anyway (presumably).

No, nobody recognizes this "claim", nobody can enforce it, and even Hope just views this as a novelty idea (in fine print of course and the company won't really say this in their advertisements). Basically, what he did was send a letter to the US, Russia, and The UN asking if he can claim ownership and sale of the moon and other planets and since none of these entities responded to his insane letter, he claims that this means they didn't contest his claims and therefore naturally his claims stand. In actuality, he made millions selling snake oil, like those other companies where you can name a star after someone.

Technically the moon cannot be owned by any nation states,thus private ownership of the moon or other celestial bodies is still not possible.
And in the scenario that mayuzumi's claim is valid,depending on the law that applied mayuzumi might lose his ownership because he did not take care of the land,or use it for a productive enterprise.
Plus,Tax,did he pay for it?
