This is being talked about in the state of Oregon. It happened, yes. A small minority of Oregon Students took up this chant. I was at the stadium and didn’t hear it. But, I was across the stadium diagonally. We don’t hear a lot of what the student sections does. I am aware that this does not mean that it didn’t happen. There is no excuse for something like this in any stadium. Let alone in the stadium that is my fall Saturday home. I have no idea what will happen to the students responsible. I know that the University is looking into the matter. I feel that it will be handled to most people’s satisfaction. Again, there is no excuse for this kind of behavior. Also, it is not representative of all Oregon fans. It was a small number of students that did this. All college teams have fans that other fans are not proud of. Most Oregon fans find this behavior unacceptable. Nobody in the section where I sit participated. Nor, in sections next to ours. As an Oregon fan, I apologize to all BYU fans and to all Mormons.
I hope you’re right and I appreciate your words. If I’m honest, I’m skeptical. If the university was serious they could already have done some things. And the people I talked to at the game said the abuse was wide spread.

She should have her scholarship pulled and not be allowed to play college sports again. When you lie there must be repercussions. (Ask jessie smalls)
Clay, this is something that has happened at BYU away games forever. The worst would have to be Wyoming in Laramie, whom BYU plays next week in Provo. Second worst would be SDSU games in San Diego. I guess F- the Latter Day Saints is to hard to chant. We recognize that this does not represent the majority of the fans, the Schools, or their Teams. One of the funny things is half of the BYU starters are Baptist. Yes, it’s not appropriate, but we just shrug it off. You have to be bigger than the fans doing this. Plus, could you imagine being the stadium staff told to tell a couple of hundred drunk fraternity fans to shut up, or to try and get them to leave.

I personally am a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. We don't refer to ourselves as "Mormons" others sometimes do. We have been persecuted as long as we have been around. There is a reason most of the members moved out to Utah in the 1800s. It was to escape religious persecution. It was legal for a member of the church to be shot on site in the state of Missouri until the 1970s. Usually when you are persecuted you are in good company. Just remember Christ died on a cross for claiming to be the son of God.
Meh, Not really the same. While defamatory against the school name still not attacking the religion itself as this chant happens alot across the country at opposing teams and players not saying it makes it right.
I was a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tucson. I love the Tucsonans anyway. I heard this stuff often. It's frustrating but we did build a temple in Tucson so we win.
I wonder if Oregon will ban those students from attending any other games? There should be consequences for their actions. I would say the same if it were BYU fans acting with such disgust. BYU fans are loud and boastful like most fans, but that's where it ends. Sports shouldn't get personal. It's just a game for crying out loud.
@@AM-wi1io Yes, I'm sure there are. My point was that when racial slurs or religious bigotry is used, whether BYU or any other school, consequences should follow.
Living most of my life in the remote ranching country of the Great Basin including, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho,Nevada, and Wyoming, I have lived among LDS folks for the better part of 80 years. Their religion is goofy, but no worse than most others, and way better than some. If there is agriculture, Mormons plant their flag. They have proven to be good neighbors though a bit standoffish at times. As a Gentile, I was always an outsider though I did have close friendships with some of them. They know livestock and farming. They understand the importance of self-sufficiency, and they take care of their own. My experience with them has been to accept the reality that if you are not of their faith and a crisis arises, expect them to throw you under the bus if the have to choose. I respect that. Financial transactions are normally honest, but never in favor of a Gentile. Forewarned is forearmed. I would still rather share a fence line with a mormon than an east or west coast urbanite. My neighbors all had keys to my locks and if they needed a piece of equipment and I was off site, they were free to go in my barn or shop and take what they needed. Everything was returned clean and oiled. You don’t get that from common white or brown trash out in the Big Open.
It's only a handful of fans. A handful of stupid fans do not represent the views of the 50,000 people who were there. This is not a new phenomenon, it also happened with USC last year also. Why didn't anyone report about that? There is no scandal here, and the school has already apologized for it. What more do you want?
Back in the day at Mountain West basketball tournaments in Vegas SDSU and UNLV fans were the biggest dirtbags saying vile things to both Utah and BYU fans. That tolerant left, classy as usual.
I'm sure the Oregon response to this nastiness will be a page out of that NASCAR reporterette's book when the NASCAR fans were chanting "Eff Joe Biden" and she told the guy she was interviewing (Brandon), they were chanting "Let's Go Brandon." The Oregon crapweasels will say they weren't saying "Eff the Mormons." They were saying "Let's Go Oregon." I lived in Eugene, OR during my sophomore year in high school in 1963. It was a nice place then. Somewhere along the way it turned into a real shiitehole.
You can bet had there been someone yelling racial slurs to the Duke girl there would most definitely also been someone or more taking video of the accused had it happened. Mormons own cell phones too. There was no videos.

@@skanderbeg1751 can they be in Today world 🌎🌎 friend
“If they persecute me, they will also persecute you.- John 15:20. “Pray for them who despitefully use you and persecute you”.-Matthew 5:44 The great thing about Mormons is they follow Jesus and His teachings.
harassing people for there religious beliefs and there nationality is equally repulsive. This is not ok. Makes me sad 😔
I am a former member of the LDS Church. This was totally unacceptable. I hope there is something done to step up the awareness of respect for religious differences. Bigotry is not acceptable!!!
I despise all religions and particularly the more cult-like ones like the LSD, but I think what those people did was wrong with that chant.
Clay you are 100 % correct
The double standard is appalling
See Duke, there are multiple unintended consequences when you don't take action. Doing the right thing is not always easy.
That Duke volleyball player should be ashamed of herself because of the likely chaos that could happen because of her lie.
Oregon is Northern California, because the actual Northern California is not liberal.
Everything outside of the Willamette Valley, sure.
Are you saying that Northern California voted for Trump?
@@francisdashwood1760 why do you care?
@@Matt-xv2cp What...lol? You said that NC is not liberal. Well, does that mean that they voted for Trump?
@@francisdashwood1760 I have no idea who they voted for. I'm talking about the true Nor Cal; excluding Sac and the Bay Area. Where you live, Bay Area? Yeah, fk outta here..
Simple punishment is to have to sit quietly with a missionary for 12 hours in a locked room.
Haha I was a missionary years ago, we actually did a lot of LISTENING! Might be therapeutic for ppl to meet with missionaries! It's impossible to really connect with someone without a lot of listening
Haha - You’d never hear another chat like that.
University of Oregon students are spoiled democratic children and as a resident of Oregon I would like to apologize for the disgusting behavior of Duck fans. Go Beavers
fwiw OSU is trending to the left
we republicans have hated mormons since joseph smith. Don't mix those heretics in with us
Not to mention BYU came out with a flag honoring and representing a Ducks player who had recently died…
BYU had so much class before and during this game..even honored the loss of Oregon player Spencer Webb….if this don’t tell you the difference between our political parties and ideals, hopefully this will
The culture of the PAC v. Big 12 is night and day. So glad to be heading to Big 12 and please, no matter what happens, don’t let any of the PAC in. Don’t want it, don’t need it.
The same thing happened last year at USC.
Easily remedied. No televised games for any Oregon sports and no bowl games! Should be the same for duke and the girl that absolutely lied to start this. She should have her scholarship pulled and not be allowed to play college sports again. When you lie there must be repercussions. (Ask jessie smalls)
really ....30 idiots chant and lets blow the program up....doesn't byu discriminate openly lol
I'm an Oregon fan and I called out Stephen A for assuming BYU was racist. I knew what he and the media were doing would lead to stupid stuff like this. I'm glad the players acted respectfully.
This is why the Duke volleyball player should be kicked out of NCAA sports for fomenting racial animus.
Just to clarify a point, it’s not the “Mormon Religion,” it’s the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Thanks Terry. I'm a Latter-day Saint as well.
You'll be called what we call you and you'll shut up, mormon
@@benjaminnorstadt2551 so does that mean I can call you whatever I want to call you and that’s fine with you? It seems you are a pretty angry person. I simply clarified the name of the church, I didn’t say you had to call us by that name, but it would be nice if you did.
Just a question; why did my comment about the name of the church cause you to respond the way that you did?
Ah the woke. The most tolerant and compassionate in society
How ‘bout F Duke and F Duke volleyball. And F Oregon.
I am an Oregon State Beaver fan and was appalled by the conduct of Oregon students and fans. From a person who lives in Eugene, Oregon, they are already covering the incident up. They televised the so called apologies and that was the end for them. Other Pac12 teams should ban Oregon football. Believe me, Oregon State students and fans welcome visiting team and fans with respect.
You are going to ban the team for a few students? You really are worried about getting your ass handed to you in the Civil War at the end of the year.
No one is covering it up here in Eugene. I have ad anti gay slurs yelled at me on two separate occasions at Gil, and I don’t go around saying all beav fans are bigots. All fan bases have assholes, including OSU and UO. It was 6 students who got yelled at to shut up by other fans and students. It lasted for less than 30 seconds. It was awful and those responsible will face consequences once identified.
Civil War
what are you talking about lol....ban the team because 30 idiots chanted...stfu ....put on your big boy pants i think we will be ok
USC did the same thing!! Clearly overheard on television during the broadcast!!
Another notch for Oregon! Disgusting!
Will the south carolina women's basketball coach cancel any future games against Oregon?
Nah
oregon is a woke hotbed, and theyshowed their as#, i mean class
Nothing will be done about this because it didnt involve a black athlete or black people being taunted.
I've never been racist but with all this blm and woke crap going on I would possibly consider it, it shouldn't just be the lib leftists who get a free pass on racism, we need equity.
Thanks for showing me why I don't believe in the Republican party long term. Someone has to be the grownup. We know it won't be the political left so....
Oregon!!!!!! Classy
Thanks
Unlike the N-word that Nobody heard, The whole world can hear this. Let's see what happens....
a group of drunk college kids run their mouths off at a football game? Whoever heard of such a thing? I'm not condoning it but consider the source
Fun fact: There are many members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that attended Oregon or root for Oregon. I personally know several of them here in California.
Oregons starting LB, Sewell, is Mormon. Same thing last year with USC, the starting QB (Dart), among others. I’ll bet the family farm it happens again against Stanford. Funny how all the bigotry comes from all the PAC teams, weird.
So………..?
😂 the Mormon church is crazy and political just like the way say “the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder day saints”.
@@BarbieHitsBack Sad to see Oregon fans hating some of their own fan base because of their religion

i dont like what they did but the crazy reactions and pearl clutching is to funny....everyone calm down we will get through this national emergency lol
Hey Clay, we actually met in Atlanta after the Braves/Dodgers game in the Omni hotel lobby. I think I kind of startled you a little but you were cordial, got up out from your chair and shook my hand. Just wanted to say how much I appreciate what you do and love the Clay and Buck show, I listen to everyday on 100FLA. I used to live in Nashville but moved to South Georgia. No such thing as Mormons, it's the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
I've always called them mormons because that's was what I thought they were.i had some classmates in high school who were Mormons and that was we they called themselves then
Then what do you call its members if not Mormons?
@@francisdashwood1760 latter-day saints
@@michaelmerck7576 A few years ago the president of the church provided instructions that the correct name of the church should be used and members should no longer refer to themselves as Mormons.

Technically, there is no "Mormon" faith. The official name of the Church has always been The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I want to invite all of my brothers and sisters who read this to read The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of JESUS CHRIST. Thank you!
Thank a Lib!
People who knew Oregon knew they have little class.
What Stephen says is sadly true . Yep there are actually a lot of people (lots) that don't really like the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints at all . Many of them are in the celebrity category .
As disgusting as it is, it’s just names. And I am a church member.
Should make Oregon play their next couple of home games with no fans in the stands. Only visiting team.
It's all too common with many teams that play against BYU. If this weekends game against Wyoming was played in Laramie...you would here it there as well except their chant is straight up FU BYU! Water off a ducks back! No pun intended.
truth over facts - Joe said so
It just goes to show how intellectually lazy these Oregon students and fans are that taunted the BYU players and coaching staff. These hecklers fit into the group of the willfully ignorant.
I am a Latter Day Saint. I know that a few drunk dudes were having a good time and got carried away. Give them a chance to grow up.
Good grief, how grown up does one have to be to not behave this way? A 6 year old knows better.
thank you for being reasonable...it was a handful of dummys that got out of hand...hardly the end of the world...i dont like it but some of these comments on not televising or trying to cancel games is just insane
@Sound Logic i think most people know that was BS...so calm down...feels like BYU wants to get the spotlight off of them..
@Sound Logic the double standard is outrageous, you're right. Totally true. But that's not U of O's fault
I never realized that Oregon was such an uncivilized state.

I went to a U of Arizona vs BYU game about 15 years ago in Tucson and the Arizona fans were chanting F$&& you BYU.. Nothing was done.
I was at that game. What area was that coming from?
I agree that most BYU fans are respectful to others. But let's not pretend that we don't have the
@@AM-wi1io Yes, I'm sure there are.

I'm sure the Oregon response to this nastiness will be a page out of that NASCAR reporterette's book when the NASCAR fans were chanting "Eff Joe Biden" and she told the guy she was interviewing (Brandon), they were chanting "Let's Go Brandon." The Oregon crapweasels will say they weren't saying "Eff the Mormons." They were saying "Let's Go Oregon."
I lived in Eugene, OR during my sophomore year in high school in 1963. It was a nice place then. Somewhere along the way it turned into a real shiitehole.
That's Woke Compassion & Understanding. . . . Ya' know "tolerant ". Obviously more definitions changing.
You can bet had there been someone yelling racial slurs to the Duke girl there would most definitely also been someone or more taking video of the accused had it happened. Mormons own cell phones too. There was no videos.
And not a peep from Mitt Romney about it.
