Fun Fact: Horn is correct by saying Bell seduces older women because he is the youngest named character in the anime being only 14 years old and every girl being older than him.
Yep. Lily is 15, Haruhime and Ais are 16, that elf girl from Hermes' familia is 18, Eina is 19, Ryuu and Aisha are 21, while Freya and Hestia are Goddesses.
Hestia’s “power” was very fitting: I don’t know if you knew that but she’s actually one of the original twelve Olympians in Greek mythology (she then “abdicated”, relinquished her place to Dionysus, and then people kinda “forgot” about her, or at least tend to forgot that she was one of the “original Olympians) and she was one of the most respected gods in all of the pantheon: Zeus was actually her brother (she was the first child of Chronos and Rea, so Zeus elder sister) and Hestia was one of the very few people/ deities he had an high consideration of (and we know from mythology that Zeus wasn’t exactly known for being respectful and considerate of others)😂 Being Italian I’ll use an Italian expression to describe why this “depiction” of Hestia was extremely fitting: in Italian she’s known as “Dea del Focolare” which roughly translates to “Goddess of the Fireplace” “Focolare” then became a world that indicated not just the fireplace but all the people gathering around it; this world actually became a synonym (and it’s still used today to indicate) of “House” or “Family” So, by praying to Hestia, “the goddess of the fireplace” you were essentially asking her to keep your house, your family, your loved ones safe… In conclusion “fire” and “protection” are two recurring themes whenever it comes to Hestia
I’ll tell you more: to the Romans Hestia’s name changed (they essentially “copied” Greek divinities, changing their name and sometimes a few attributes) and she became “Vesta” Here’s why Bell’s technique was named “Argo Vesta” that if wrote “Argo Vestae” would literally translate from Latin to “Vesta’s (Hestia’s) Argonaut” And also here “Dios Aedes Vesta” “Aedes” being a synonym for “sepulcher” but originally meaning simply “temple” or “Home” (They were so close to perfection but then they HAD to butcher it with “Dios” instead of “Deus”= “God”, making it half Spanish)😒😂 Moreover in Rome Vesta was such an important figure that she even had her own “priestesses”; they were know as: “Vergini Vestali”, literally “Vesta’s (Hestia’s) Virgins” They were without a doubt the most important priestesses in Roman history and also the most important and influential women in Roman’s society: they were 3/4 (then they became 6) randomly drawn from a pool of 20/30 candidates (little girls of noble families who were about 10 years old) Their “service” lasted for 20/30 years and after they were free to live however they liked… They all had to undergo quite a rigid training, but in Roman society that was EXTREMELY patriarchal they surely were the most free women and had special rights and privileges reserved exclusively for them: they were the only women who could make a will, when they didn’t have to attend their duties in the temple they were free to go out, and when they walked in the streets everyone, including senators and high “magistrates” (in Latin= high ranking government officials) had to step aside and let them through… They could “bestow their grace” to people who were sentenced to death (like a “presidential pardon”) and many other things They only had two obligation: 1) Remain virgins 2) NEVER let Vesta’s (Hestia) fire in the temple extinguish, for WHATEVER reason But even if they “transgressed” these 2 rules and were sentenced to death, they were “special” even in death, because being sacred to Vesta they basically couldn’t be touched (let alone murdered) by human hands, so instead of executing them, they were left to starve to death because “no human being could dare to bring death upon them” I know, the last one is quite creepy😅 But I just wanted to show how much of an importance Hestia had in the ancient world
Hestia is one of the three virgin gods in greek mythology (aside from Artemis and Athena) and being that between the greek gods is probably not an easy feat. Iirc it was also stated that she is a virgin goddess in the movie Arrow of the Orion as it was about her fellow virgin greek goddess Artemis
Fun fact that makes this episode more good. 1. Hestia is both Zeus little sister and Big Sister at the same time. She is both Imouto and Onee san which inspires her design which is little sister but her chest was definitely Onee san. 2. As Zeus be doing Sus things. Only Hestia is the goddess Zeus don't eff around. 3. You can feel more Oranos being proud learning that He is Hestia and Zeus Grandfather. 4 When it comes to Hestia as deity. she guards the eternal flame of creation "like bigbang for science people" which keeps forces of darkness at bay. The day the fire went out is the day of end of the universe. Vesta hestia other name = eternal flames 5. Hestia = Shrine. In modern terms, Gods got their salary through prayers when people pray at the shrine. All shrines were dedicated to Hestia. which makes her tax collector/IRS and eff her off you don't get said allowance. You want your mortal foe to be struck by lightning. offer prayers to hestia so he might tell zeus. 6. Goddess Hestia is goddess of home. Which makes her like mother to bell who scan thots around him. Also when God were picking who to become the 12 main deity of earth. Hestia gave up her seat saying its was childish fighting and went to focus with her altar. This is also an in anime jole to hestia being hikomori or neet. she is always at her home which is the shrine/altar.
To be fair, and this is for both Lee and Director Nasty, she's not the Goddess of Virginity, so it doesn't really matter. Artemis is the actual Goddess of Virginity. Hestia is the Goddess of Home, Hearth, Family, and Architecture. Her status as Goddess of Family means she could never represent virginity fully, as wives and husbands are part of family. She is just a goddess that happens to be a virgin, and that is based on a tale where Zeus made a pact with her that she'd be protected from the lustful advances of other gods as long as she kept her virginity and tended the Flame of Heaven (the two gods in question who tried to smash her were Poseidon and Apollo). That said, because of her billions of years old virginity status the flame that she controls has a purifying essence. It also shields her from Freya's charm. One thing you should know about Danmachi's version of Hestia is she is a Neet and a Bibliophile, meaning in the Heavens she just lounged around at her temple all day reading books. So Hestia has a concept of romance from reading, but she has never fallen in love until she met Bell. Heck, the first thing she did when she descended was spent months mooching off Hephaistos and reading books all day, until Hephaistos kicked her out. She's changed a LOT since leaving the Heavens, including forced to stop being lazy and falling in love. Basically Hestia is a virgin who WOULD be willing to finally lose it with Bell if only he would love her back. Though what she is envisioning is probably dates, declarations of love, marriage, and THEN the smashing. Women who were married and faithful in Greek culture were still considered "pure" after all, and even made a sacrifice (typically an animal) to Artemis in exchange for the loss of virginity. That said, it's a good, GOOD thing that Bell hasn't reciprocated her feelings or she probably wouldn't have been able to resist Freya or do this little trick of hers. Just like how Bell's protection against Freya's charm was his feelings for Ais, Hestia's virginity was a shield and sword.
Hestia is the goddess of the home and hearth. She was also the goddess (or lesser extent) of purity. She was the ONLY god of the Olympian gods that ALL Greeks worshiped no matter what as she was central to the family and home. Of which that covered not only a physical house, but their home country of Greece itself. Hestia never had a central temple built for her as every single home and hearth were her temple. She's also one of the three major virginal goddesses (of which Hestia is the most important and powerful). Both of which are counters to Freya's powers and what she stands for. War and Fertility. One thing that the anime did not cover from the light novel is that one of the reasons Hestia was sent down to the mortal realm was because the other gods in haven were worried that Freya was going to use her powers to get her way. Hestia was the only one who had the power to not only resist but to also completely counter and cancel out Freya's powers. A balance if you will. Hestia's Roman version was called Vesta, a name you've seen thrown around a bit already in the anime. She still head the title of goddess of the home and hearth and purity, was a virginal goddess, but she was also the goddess of the soul/mind/consciousness. And again she was the only god worshiped by all Romans as she stood for the home and family. In fact even after Christianity took over the Roman empire and stomped out worshiping their former gods. It took another 100 years or so to finally get ride of the last vestiges of Hestia's temple worshiping. It's where we get the word "vestiges" from in fact.
6:43 Horn spitting facts right here! Bell is currently only 14yo so all the harem girls are older than him (with Lily being the closest one with 15 years).
20:03 She didn’t know, they’re just the two strongest families and she’s pissed freya dared to use it on her Most people can’t dare to threaten Freya not to do something. Loki is the one who can and is pissed freya ignored the threat
This season has been so good. Its been quite faithful so far, can't wait for the next couple of episodes. Ryu cranell has my favorite moment in the whole familia war 🙌
There are a few precious details the anime left out that further heightens the emotional pay off of everyone remembering Bell and when Hestia recreates her alter in Heaven. As always, Ais' scene was watered down. She ran as fast as she could to the Freya Familia's home and asked Ryuu where Bell was, and she tpld Ais that she already knew. Ais was ready to rain bedlam on the Freya Familia, even risking a fight againt Ottar, if it meant finding him and saving him. Eina was very much the aame. The anime doesn't show it, but as soon as she remembered everything, she literally ran to the Freya Familia's guild to go save Bell, not caring if what she'll do will cause a Civil War. Other charactera they didn't show were Miach and Naaza, who were broken up and furious, especially Naaza. I'm still bummed the anime cut down her time, but she's treated Bell like a little brother since he first arrived and she was beyond angry. Takemikazuchi was also jumping around Orario towards the Freya Familia's house to catch up and give her a piece of his mind. Hephaistos and her Familia all immediately went up in arms. Then there's the rest of the Hestia Familia. Bete and the rest are shown in the anime to confront Allen and the members of the Freya Familia near Babel, but what they didn't show was thEveryoned Gareth began arguing with them and a fight was about to break out, with everyone around them gearing to gang up on Allen and the quadruplets. Eveeyone was THAT emotional and on the warpath. Also Hestia's recreation was much more grand in thw LN; the anime makes it look like a light show, but in the LN, all of Orario lit up and formed the emblem of the Hestia Familia with a spiritual fire imbedding itself across the city.
I'm sure someone already mentioned it but I think in season 1 they say Hestia's the goddess of the hearth which is about family, close bonds, and just generic power of friendship type stuff. I'm glad this episode explains she's also a virgin goddess so she's naturally opposed to Freya who's ABSOLUTELY not. lol.
29:05 Yeah, I get it. I know this won't really help because you already explained why you don't bother, but people naturally aren't going to remember every key detail of a show unless it's one of the only shows they watch, and even then, they'd probably need to do rewatches or be taking notes because the human brain just can't retain all that info. Then you take into account just how much you watch (Including Kdramas and western shows) and yeah. Just know even if you do decide to speak out again and you don't remember certain details, it's genuinely not a big deal. 👍
Because Freya and Hörn are connected, Hörn can feel Freya's feelings. She herself hates Bell for making Freya fall in love, but because they are connected, Hörn also feels the love Freya has for Bell.

Being Italian I’ll use an Italian expression to describe why this “depiction” of Hestia was extremely fitting: in Italian she’s known as “Dea del Focolare” which roughly translates to “Goddess of the Fireplace”
“Focolare” then became a world that indicated not just the fireplace but all the people gathering around it; this world actually became a synonym (and it’s still used today to indicate) of “House” or “Family”
So, by praying to Hestia, “the goddess of the fireplace” you were essentially asking her to keep your house, your family, your loved ones safe…
In conclusion “fire” and “protection” are two recurring themes whenever it comes to Hestia
I’ll tell you more: to the Romans Hestia’s name changed (they essentially “copied” Greek divinities, changing their name and sometimes a few attributes) and she became “Vesta”
Here’s why Bell’s technique was named “Argo Vesta” that if wrote “Argo Vestae” would literally translate from Latin to “Vesta’s (Hestia’s) Argonaut”
And also here “Dios Aedes Vesta”
“Aedes” being a synonym for “sepulcher” but originally meaning simply “temple” or “Home”
(They were so close to perfection but then they HAD to butcher it with “Dios” instead of “Deus”= “God”, making it half Spanish)😒😂
Moreover in Rome Vesta was such an important figure that she even had her own “priestesses”; they were know as: “Vergini Vestali”, literally “Vesta’s (Hestia’s) Virgins”
They were without a doubt the most important priestesses in Roman history and also the most important and influential women in Roman’s society: they were 3/4 (then they became 6) randomly drawn from a pool of 20/30 candidates (little girls of noble families who were about 10 years old)
Their “service” lasted for 20/30 years and after they were free to live however they liked…
They all had to undergo quite a rigid training, but in Roman society that was EXTREMELY patriarchal they surely were the most free women and had special rights and privileges reserved exclusively for them: they were the only women who could make a will, when they didn’t have to attend their duties in the temple they were free to go out, and when they walked in the streets everyone, including senators and high “magistrates” (in Latin= high ranking government officials) had to step aside and let them through…
They could “bestow their grace” to people who were sentenced to death (like a “presidential pardon”) and many other things
They only had two obligation:
1) Remain virgins
2) NEVER let Vesta’s (Hestia) fire in the temple extinguish, for WHATEVER reason
But even if they “transgressed” these 2 rules and were sentenced to death, they were “special” even in death, because being sacred to Vesta they basically couldn’t be touched (let alone murdered) by human hands, so instead of executing them, they were left to starve to death because “no human being could dare to bring death upon them”
