Piñatas were for the middle class and higher so my family couldn't afford them. Did go to a few parties that had them but they would spin us around then point us in the direction of the piñata, they never were on a rope to be pulled out of the way. There are also ones that have ribbons and only one it attacked to a trap door that allows the candy to fall out.
Our birthday game was pin the tail on the donkey, although if you were lucky enough to get McDonald's party we played the longest fry game .....

I grew up in San Diego, so I grew up with piñatas. They had them in stores but they were fun to make at home too. We’d go to the beach a lot and have picnics for all of our birthdays, but move to the grassy picnic areas to eat and do the piñata. The adults would LOVE spinning us so much that we couldn’t walk straight and crack up at us trying to find and hit the piñata. Lots of fond memories.
