I still can't believe its been so long for Dark Road to release but man those were some serious story beats. Also incorporating a ton of the disney elements which I'm very surprised.

its kinda cool, that at the end of kingdom hearts 3, when Xehanort says to Sora "you make me think of an old friend" at first we all thought it was Eraqus an it could still be interpret that he was talking about Eraqus but...he also could of ment it as in he reminded him of the "Player" who took care of him as he was telling him stories of hearts and emotions destiny etc. just like Sora. Which at that moment Xehanort *knew* that Sora was actually the REAL Child of Destiny, which is why he gave up his goal an gave the X blade to Sora an entrusted the future to him.

@@aoto8897 As I said....it could be interpret *either* way. At the time of KH3 production surly Nomura meant it as he was talking about Eraqus...however due to Dark roads ending. He could of made Xehanort talking about the player as well. I wouldn’t put it passed me. After all Nomura has an act of making old plot point details from past games, an making them relevant in future games.

Could be, but Sora talking about Light and Peace made Xehanort think about Eraqus. also Eraqus never gave up on Xehanort the same way Sora never gave up on Riku.
Another thing that hit me is how strong aqua’s heart is for residing in the realm of darkness for (probably) 10 years. Especially after seeing how much the lower classmen were affected when they were yeeted into the realm of darkness. Even the MoM was like “ going into the realm of darkness without some form of protection is a no-no.” To xehanort. But in that regard, maybe aqua’s protection was her wayfinder, we did see how it helped her out in BBS secret episode
I suppose mickey and riku are also strong for staying there for a while too. Although they did have black coats later on.
That's is true, but wasn't he talking about corridors of darkness, and not the entire realm of darkness? They may be the same also, I don't know if I'm mixing it up. In the realm of darkness aqua is getting sad and stuff, but she only succumbed to darkness when she fell in the water, and for some reason that reminds me a lot more of the dark corridors presence of darkness then the entire realm. I'm just throwing ideas here, I'm not entirely sure about anything hahaha
This game and Union Cross taught me to never to underestimate Maleficent ever again.

It's interesting to think about the win and lose ratios. Maleficent in the past took on 3 keybladers (not masters but still powerful) and held her own in her Dragon form. Now how much did she contributed to their deaths vs the darkness attack from behind that was the killing blow for the three unknown even to them. Much later (or not as it seems the worlds have their own rules to time as for Xehanort aged about 65 years but the characters of that world didn't) she took on Aqua and while she lost she wasn't gone forever. Took on Sora and lost. Then took on Lauriam and won. Later her and Pete would take on a Heartless barrage at the World that Never Was.
Her and Hades (and the Fairy Godmother and some magic users based on clues to what they could do) seems to be more powerful in certain ways that wasn't anticipated by fans and unknown if other Disney IP Villains and Heroes might show equally or more powerful powers/magic and skills (I can think of a few) that can effect Multiverse Worlds or powerful keybladers.
That written it also makes you think just how Sora himself is Uber Powerful as despite starting young with no master education of combat with the keyblade (outside of play fighting on the beach) and constantly losing his powers he still able to take on her, Master Xehanort, and many other antagonists that faced him and he's still not considered a 'Keyblade Master' (though as Xehanort viewed it as a 'title' that didn't really mean much but being a title only gifted by a Master if meeting their subjective view and Xehanort might be right about that).
@@johndreyer294 keep in mind, Heimdall, Helgi, and Sigrun weren’t masters, but they were literally in the middle of their Mark of Mastery exam, so we can infer that they were far more powerful than the average Keyblade weilder
The problem with Maleficent is that there are games that have tarnished her image. In some she's an amazing villain, like KH1, UX, BBS, maybe Coded and COM, and in others she's a parody of Team Rocket, like KH2, DDD or KH3. But if we stick to the original "Sleeping Beauty" villain, she's an excellent villain, and she needs to get that role back in KH.
@@yedffgd The only way I can see this making sense is that she got "weaker" during a certain period of time by the circumstances of her defeat.
In Dark Road, she was in her prime. In BBS, she was being attacked by Aqua (a Keyblade Master) and the prince powered up by fairies. That sword strike was the thing that actually hurt her badly, she was probably cursed and "nerfed" here.
Then in KH1 she's still 'cursed' and it took Riku-Ansem to unlock part of her power back, but probably not fully and thus she was "defeated".
However, in Union X she's in a body in her prime, so she could've gotten her power back that way and thus able to defeat Lauriam.
@@saxor96 A character wins or looses depending on plot,s convenience. But weak or strong, Maleficent had a lot of combats AND NEVER DIED. Didn't die with Phillip and Aqua, didn't really died with Sora despite Boeing the closest combat to death, didn't die with Phillip and Future Blue, and didn't die with Data Sora. So she is definetly a survivor.

We did learn why Xehanort is bald. When the Magic Mirror pointed out his baldness, Xehanort said: "A demonstration of my resolve." He shaved it.
I totally misunderstood that scene. To me, I thought he was saying “I worked so hard towards my evil goals that my hair fell out from stress/work. A demonstration of my resolve”
I guess I can see how it can be misunderstood. It’s also been confirmed by Nomura in the Q&A that Xehanort shaved.

Ironically Eraqus as an adult is played by Luke Skywalker's actor. The apprentice literally became the master in the form of a Keyblade Master.

I just realized how Terra had darkness inside him from the beginning. Xehanort also needed someone who is like him, on the side of the dark, to be able to become his vessel. Seriously, everything now hit differently after dark road.

@@Final_RPG to be fair, as far as Riku summoning Sora's keblade. I really think all keyblade weilders can summon another's keyblade. They can use their hearts to call out to the weapon and the weapon will respond if able.
Riku's explanation of his heart being "stronger" was really more of them both not understanding keyblades, even if it was perhaps true. Keyblades exist as foils to darkness. We know this as the heartless naturally fear and attack their welders. We also know that strength of the heart can be subjective and change on a dime.
Sora had no real understanding of the keyblade. Riku had personal lessons from Maleficent, who we know has come across MANY keyblade welders. He was personally trained by Maleficent to make his heart strong enough to wield darkness. He actively used his heart in battle.
So in Sora and Riku's first encounter, Riku plucked the keyblade with sheer willpower because Sora hadn't been using his heart when he weilded it. Keyblades are born of the heart. But Sora only ever saw it as a powerful weapon that "chose" him. He didn't think about using his heart to fight until Riku swiped it from him.
At the end of the day, each keyblade does have a specific weilder. But it can most certainly be used by another.

But it wasn't because of maleficent at all it would have been because of ansem the guy that lead them there the entire time and kinda gave him the power after sora took it back because he knows more about keyblades than maleficent does. But you can't just summon up anyones keyblade just cause you want to you also have to remember that well that keyblade was gonna belong to Riku in the first place and sora didn't really understand how to use it like you had said so in the long run sora just wasn't capable of keeping it to his will only cause he didn't connect with it like how has the connection now

1:15 Wouldn't it be crazy if... Xehanort himself didn't actually land the deathblow backstabbing Eraqus after all these years, but instead that, Eraqus after realizing darkness had been noticed in his own heart in that moment decided to expel the darkness (the dark impact we see in his "final" scene after Terra wins) by dedicating his heart to becoming pure light itself passing on into Terra's heart. Then when Xehanort appears a few seconds later pitying Eraqus having lost faith assuming the darkness in Eraqus' heart did indeed overcome Eraqus into the fear/rage of striking down his pupils at risk of becoming vessels, confirming Xehanort's belief that every heart contains darkness and his destiny is to bring order to the world overcoming the rule of false light that in his view has only allowed true darkness to grow and threaten the world's future like the fatal darkness that false light failed to stop during their upperclassmen's mark of mastery exam?
Therefore, is it possible Xehanort never deathblowed Eraqus, yet sadly had just lost respect for him clinging to his "absolutes" of "false light" believing that Eraqus' ideological path naturally ends in "self failure to stop fatal darkness" and thus Xehanort merely sees it in his own ideological view as sad but inevitable that Eraqus' ideological path isn't enough to save himself and others from fatal darkness?

One more: Young Xehanorts saying “weird, somehow it’s like i know i’m meant to do this” (or something like that), he feels what the Master of Master think as he knows what the future holds
Sora being the child of destiny might mean he Was never suposed to exist

The game showed the you are not born being the child of destiny but you can BECOME it
Similar to harry potter where both Neville and Harry fullfilled the requirements in the prophecy to defeat Voldemort but only after Voldemort acted, it was "set" who would take the role of chosen one
Repeatedly they say how Xehanort and Baldr have the same ability to connect and feel other people's heart, but due to the fact that darkness interferred and managed to corrupt them they became inelligible to be the child of prophecy (asuming Baldr hails for destiny islands as well) similar to how in KH Riku became inelligible for the Keyblade and it passed on to Sora, it is all about strength of heart
However Sora was able to stay true to his heart and not give in to darkness (barely!)
Thus he was able to become the true child of prophecy, Xehanort however corrupted those ideals, instead connecting with others' hearts he manipulated them, instead taking others in his heart and becoming one, he stole bodies, and instead of saving the world he wanted to purge it (that's why he was so fixated on standing up and being the leader of his new world)
Sora did do exactly what Old Player described in the correct way
@@VGInterviews what if Xehanort was trying to make himself a dark vessel so as to sacrifice himself as a scapegoat, and he required a powerful light "that shines even amidst the chaos of darkness" to vanquish him True Darkness, and if that failed he would instead summon KH to reshape the world?

It wasn’t actually Maleficent who defeated them though…that was possessed Baldr
They were defeated in combat by Maleficent but it was the fallen Baldr (he wasn't actually possessed, his own inner darkness exploded when he gave into his hatred) who dealt the killing blow when they were defenseless.

They weren’t defeated in combat against maleficent, they were struck down by Darkness mid battle.
Also, Maleficent worked with Darkness, so she probably sensed Baldr's darkness, and "assisted".
Technically, it wasn't Maleficent who killed them all
She drained their stamina so Darkness could finish the job.

To be fair, Woody's little speech to Xehanort doesn't even visibly faze him (because this is Xehanort during his edgy teen phase) and is also prior to his proper experiences through the timeline. It's not like Woody opened up a scrapbook of his dead friends and rubbed it in his face.
Also, lest we forget, this is a man whose sole friend we've seen prior to this game was shot in the face by him and then later killed after being gaslighted into fighting his own adopted children.

That ending was so good. I feel bad for hating on KHUX for so long, I really didn't realize how brilliant the underlying story was until a few months ago, I wish I would have. Beautifully done.

At first I see it as meh.. they’re just transitioning this to kh4… but then when it’s bridged to DR, I feel like I cannot wait to watch Missing Link already.
Spoiler Alert:
You probably add the scene with Luxu confronting Darkness and the earthquake in the ark room as Xehanort revealed that last lingering Darkness was destroyed with the original daybreak town, meaning Luxu a bigger bamf that he already is and walking out looking completely unscathed for the most part.
I guess but it feels weird that the one that helped maleficent would allow itself to be destroyed it could of possessed her I can see her seeing it as a "power up" or something like that

Have not seen the final update entirely, just snippets. Trying to understand what I've been reading in the comments. Makes me feel confused like someone who's new to the series trying to understand kh's lore 🥴😅
Shitty summary: All of Xehanort's classmates, except Eraqus and (albeit presumed dead by the two) Bragi, aka Luxu/Braig/Xigbar, were killed basically in front of him by capital-D Darkness. Also he was raised virtually from birth by the player character from Union X, and learned about Ventus from reading their heart. Nort was fully aware that Vanitus was one of the Darkness, and was actively trying to force it out of Ventus so that Ven would be free of it. I missed a lot and will not be trying to rectify that.
Idk, that Woody burn is still pretty great and memorable 🤣 Kinda wrong but what do toys really know 🤔🤣

To all the Woody comments: I could be wrong, but I don't know if Young Xehanort in KH 3 had gone through the events of dark road yet and thus Woody's comment would have still held true. We also don't know how much old Xehanort told his younger self when he time traveled to when KH3 occurred. If I remember correctly, this young Xehanort was pulled from Destiny Islands before he traveled to Scala.

as funny as woody roasting a man who lost all of his friends in incredibly tragic circumstances for never being loved, I do think it highlights a critical weakness of kingdom hearts and its largely retroactive writing.
cause man, ya know what woulda been cool? having woody roast young xehanort for having no friends/being unloved and then instead of having young xehanort just villain brush it off, instead portray him as being really bothered and upset by the acquisitions. like to the point that its clear he's genuinely hurt because woody is picking at a [for him given hes the young xehanort time travel nonsense] pretty darn fresh wound. in that instance ya'd get to see the mask slip, and get some insight and build up to the idea that theres more going on under that hood then just 'evil mc bald man loves darkness' instead of just taking a hard turn into it at the final hour with the final boss.

Haven't even played Dark Road, and while I feel like it might actually be worth it based on this video and these comments, I'm just angry that we're getting the main villain's backstory after he's fucking dead and no longer a part of the series at all. Like... you didn't manage to make me care before, why should I care now? It's over. Recontextualizing the mess that is all the past events of the series given the advantage of writing a prequel after the *ENTIRE* series is over is so, so sloppy.

As for the second half... If he cared so much about filling the hole, maybe he could have done it at a point when it mattered. But don't pretend that the plot of Kingdom Hearts isn't constantly riddled with holes that Nomura purposely punches in it himself, cuz that's just lying to yourself. I'm only this angry because at one point, I loved this franchise as much as you. The difference between you and me is how much we're willing to accept spit in our face before we decide enough is enough. I'm not gonna pretend Kingdom Hearts was ever the Shakespeare of videogames story-wise, cuz it definitely wasn't, but there were some cool things done in the plot, some cool characters developed throughout the games, and some cool concepts introduced into the world. The game was cool and largely COHERENT for a long time, and I'm tired of Nomura just shitting all over it cuz he's constantly winging it in the worst way and has created an entire franchise around a character he doesn't relate to at the most basic level (according to an interview with Polygon).
