    Nice video and a healthy catch. I find buying online always tends to be a lot cheaper with regard to jig heads, lures and softbaits. Cheers

    its a lot harder to go on bigger trips with the rise of costs on everything, fuel especially

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yeah absolutely, if you add fuel on top of the lure, bait and gear costs then things are becoming crazy expensive. I might make another video adding up all the costs to see the true cost of a fishing trip. I bet it's cheaper to just buy fish in the supermarket if one is only after a feed.
      On this trip I probably spent another $10 on fuel for the boat alone.

      I don't think counting the cost of fishing is very wise. I would still fish if it was the last thing I could afford! 😂

      @@deanhoward7534 haha, yeah for sure :) My brain always tries to optimise everything, a side effect of developing software I guess. In terms of fishing I always try to figure out how to have maximum fun and success with minimal cost and wasted time. To reduce costs I found that camping near a good fishing spots saves fuel, fishing during the bite times saves time and frustration and fishing with lures saves money and prevents stinky fingers, haha

    I land base fish and live inland it's an hour drive to nearest coast. It is expensive but so are most hobbies! I've just invested $30 in a cast net to obtain free grey mullet for bait from the Waikato River.
    However not only do I fish for the Kai but also mentally health nothing encourages me more to go outdoors than the prospect of a fishing adventure!

      yeah couldn't agree more on the mental health effect. I think catching your own bait is probably the most cost effective method for fishing.

    I catch most of my snapper over sand, so rarely loose gear.

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      that's a good way to safe gear and money :)

    You would think weighted saltwater flies would be just as effective, very cheap if you tie them yourself

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah that's a great idea to safe money I think. And saltwater flies are fairly easy to tie as well I believe. Must give it a try.

      Yep - run a closure type fly behind a small round sinker on a short trace - works a treat..

    I found a really solid solution to the rising costs. You just earn more and it solves everything.

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Haha, yeah and also make sure to earn as quickly as you can before AI is taking over

    I was losing 2-3 $10 Black majic enticers every time I went fishing now a $15 pack of soft bait an $12 jig heads last me a few weeks

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yeah, I'd say softbaits are probably still the most cost effective way. Although not quite as effective as my favourite zest gan jigs :) Considering how many gan jigs I lost over the last few years, I guess I probably spent close to $250 on these jigs. They are still the best value I think, priced at $13 per jig.
      If I were to take a guess and say I caught perhaps 100 fish with them over the same time span, it would price each fish caught at $2.50 :) Not too bad.

      I recon you can’t really put a price on the experience of catching, it’s more exciting and cheaper than playing the pokies. :)
      Caught 7 trout on the same jig and s/bait yesterday on the Waitaki, awesome morning
