I like Jimmy Carr in certain situations like stand-up when he has his material prepared. But he isn't a quick and creative spontaneous thinker like the others here are. Richard Ayoade destroys him.
Renzo His best stand up bits are his unscripted interactions with hecklers and the audience. He’s plenty quick. It’s just hard to see when so much of his comedy is so prepared/joke->punchline->repeat. It’s more evident on TV shows.
Well, the problem is that Ayoade is not a heckler, but a colleague comedian and here team captain. I think Richard breaks an unwritten rule about making comedy great together by going at Jimmy meta-comedy. I'm sure Carr could've come back and destroy Richard too, but he didn't. Because he's nice. I’m American but incredibly addicted to these British panel shows. I keep trolling TH-cam looking for shows and episodes I haven’t yet watched. We have nothing like this here in the states and they’re so good. Netflix needs a category for nothing but panel shows.

I’m fairly impressed with Jimmy’s composure during the Ayoade inquisition. He let a giggle escape a couple times, but his ability to return to the scene so quickly is commendable.

As I said, I am completely indifferent to people being gay. If the are gay, whatever. If they are not, whatever. Nothing pro-gay about me. Richard Ayoade was playing off Carr's path. Richard often portrays himself as an awkward, geeky guy who is not accustomed to contact... etc. It played into his hands to act how he did. The reason it seems so real is because they have been doing non-scripted stuff for years and are incredibly adaptable, being able to work the moment and improvise. Again, I assume you must be from a country other than the United Kingdom because you clearly don't understand the humour. If you must, try some American comedy; the jokes are obvious and the punchlines incredibly clear, they even have canned laughter to let you know when a joke has been made!
Jimmy is sort of the ultimate comedian (in the sense of set-up, punchline deliveries), and Ayoade is the ultimate anti-comedian, so of course he generates humor by shutting down Carr at every turn.

My dog died today, and I just took care him, and wanted to distract, but wow, he really is hilarious to have me go from crying to crying laughing just by being himself.
Carr and Ayoade are a great comedy duo, they have been in sooooo many shows and skits together they really work well together, like Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, Dean and Jerry
Richard and David were the highlight in this. I love how they play off each other at bits, like at 17:50 and 24:30. You can tell by Richard's looks at the end that he approves. Mickey kills me on his own as well.

Besides being an awesome comedian, Richard Ayoade is also a greeeat filmmaker. He directed a film called: "Submarine" I bloody loved it! Now I cannot wait to read his book.

you know that jimmy carr has this laugh where first, there is the warm-up - the consistent "hahahaha.." (usually not longer than 3-4 sec) - and then the climax, the "Haaaa!" where his voice goes high. At 22:18 thats probably the longest warm-up of his laugh ever recorded.
my favourite thing about british quiz shows, (qi, this, big fat quiz of) is you're always going to know at least 2 of the contestants. And they all seem to have their own show. Ahhhh its brilliant. :)
Why do some commenters not realise that comedians on panel shows are not like that in real life, they are playing characters, or exaggerations of themselves ....?
I mean, to a degree, they are being themselves as they have their own unique ways of taking the piss out of everything. I think their comedy persona is more of just of an extension of their actual personalities.
Check out a show called 'The Green Room with Paul Provenza'. It's comedians just hanging out, discussing all kinds of things and just being themselves. You'll see that they are still quite the characters in real life. Jimmy Carr is actually in one of the episodes, as well as a few other of our favorite Brits. It's a real shame it only lasted 2 seasons!
I dont think richard is trying to drown out or talk over jimmy, its just his niche humour and everyone gets it. People are just reading into it too much. Personally i think he stays quiet during interviews etc and i love seeing him speak up, he's hilarious!

this is single handedly the most awkward interaction i've ever seen and enough to make a 13 year old cringe.
This Richard Ayoade is just so brilliant, I laughed my ass off, literally under the table, wiping my tears of joy - splendid guy.
Ayoade is the only other comedian I know to make Carr laugh the way he does when around him. I love the pair of them in all the BBC shows I watch.

The only ones who actually criticise the government are "political cabarettists" ... and the people sitting in the audience simply laugh and keep voting for the same idiots over and over again ... because "they are just being funny and thus it isnt meant to be taken serious".

That is a reason why I love this shows, they just do it and that's it, they do not intend to be role models so they joke about everything.

Someone should've thought through the rammifications of having Richard Ayoade and David Mitchell in the same room. The logical sarcasm is off the effing charts! You can see David grinning at Richard's little spiels because he knows he's found his equal.

The funny thing about Hitler is that people will always use him to compare their political enemies with; on all sides of the political spectrum.

Richard is easily the wittiest comedian I've ever seen. I'd love to take a class on comedy from him even though it'd just become him talking about something completely different for an hour.

+Emma J You can't learn his style, sure, but he must have some really interesting viewpoints about comedy. Hell, any good comedian, even the ones who are just naturally funny, have some sort of method or formula for their comedy.
You can't be born with a profession, only talents. And as we know, through competitive singing/talent/etc. reality shows, you won't come very far with a talent alone.

true but i live in the uk and we get adverts when the shows are getting released and i guess people who live in the uk are not aware that people outside of it would have any interest at all on what is being shown in england but it turns out they like it too

God, I love Richard, David, and Jimmy. The dry wit is just so intense. It's beautiful. Also, hardly any American schoolchildren actually know that much of the Gettysburg Address. We might know the first eight words or so, but that's probably it.

Jimmy Carr and Richard Ayoade might just be the funniest team I have seen.
Love the humour and witicism of it all. Infinitely better than anything which comes out of Hollywood.
As an American who lived in Britain for years, Jimmy's "Eat All You Can" comment really highlights the differences between our two cultures.
Besides being an awesome comedian, Richard Ayoade is also a greeeat filmmaker. He directed a film called: "Submarine" I bloody loved it! Now I cannot wait to read his book.

you know that jimmy carr has this laugh where first, there is the warm-up - the consistent "hahahaha.." (usually not longer than 3-4 sec) - and then the climax, the "Haaaa!" where his voice goes high.
At 22:18 thats probably the longest warm-up of his laugh ever recorded.
my favourite thing about british quiz shows, (qi, this, big fat quiz of) is you're always going to know at least 2 of the contestants. And they all seem to have their own show. Ahhhh its brilliant. :)
Why do some commenters not realise that comedians on panel shows are not like that in real life, they are playing characters, or exaggerations of themselves ....?

We don't give a shit what they're like in person, we just enjoy the shows they are in.
I mean, to a degree, they are being themselves as they have their own unique ways of taking the piss out of everything. I think their comedy persona is more of just of an extension of their actual personalities.
Check out a show called 'The Green Room with Paul Provenza'. It's comedians just hanging out, discussing all kinds of things and just being themselves. You'll see that they are still quite the characters in real life. Jimmy Carr is actually in one of the episodes, as well as a few other of our favorite Brits. It's a real shame it only lasted 2 seasons!

Jimmy and Richard on the same team is what every other panel show has been missing.
I dont think richard is trying to drown out or talk over jimmy, its just his niche humour and everyone gets it. People are just reading into it too much. Personally i think he stays quiet during interviews etc and i love seeing him speak up, he's hilarious!
It may be his kind of humour but not everybody gets it, by a long chalk. You only have to read this comment board to see that!
