I'm not a citizen but I go to Israel once or twice a year. You can buy a semi anonymous card that has a photo and your name and can be used just like a regular Rav Kav, you can scan it on your phone. I just checked here abroad and I still have 30₪ on it. I got mine at what I think was a transport office in Ibn Gabriol St in Tel Aviv. You'll need your passport for ID. I think you can get them at post offices too.

    A few corrections:
Nice but there are some inaccuracies.
    1. The basic 5,50 NIS and the ability to change to other transport means during 90 minutes is for rides of a distance of up to 15km (from the first validation of the ride), above that distance there are no changes allowed. There are 5 more tiers (15-40,40-75, 75-120,120-255 and above 255), each one has different fare. Trains have higher fares and changes to busses can only be done with a daily pass for bus+train (which is more expensive than just buses)
The current Jerusalem light rail line is shorter than 15km but in the next few months it will be extended so you might need to pay more for that ride, or for some bus rides.
    2. Tel Aviv also has a new light rail line connecting Petah Tikva, it goes underground through Bnei Brak and ramat Gan (along the main Jabotinsky street) Tel Aviv and back to street level from Jaffa and the city of Bat Yam. Since this line covers an area larger than 15km some places will require more than 5.5 NIS. On this line payment is a bit different. On the street level section you need to validate the card on the platforms, there are no validation machines on the train, if from the station you're in you can also reach a station that is more than 15km away you'll need to specify the destination station. On the underground section there are fare gates, you just need to tap the card on them. There are automatic machines at all stations where you can get an anonymous card or charge an existing card (get an empty card and charge it, the only other option is a card charge with a ride that only includes this line).
You should also pay attention to the train number and the destination (that is the last stop on this line) as there are 3 different sub lines (R1, R2 and R3 and here is also a short branch on this line).
    3. As mentioned, public transport does not run on Saturdays (Shabat), but as the day starts/ends on sundown service stops on Friday afternoon and resume on Saturday evening. The exact time changes as sunset time changes. Service will stop a couple of hours (or more on long routs) before sunset and resume abut 1h after on Saturday. The same goes for religious holidays.
So, there is service on Friday morning/early afternoon and Saturday evening.
    4. Israel Railways is currently electrifying the system so on effected tracks service will end early during the week and, in most cases, there will be no service on Fridays or Saturdays. Electrification should be finished in 2025.
    5. During the week the train is a great option to get from the airport to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and even up to the north. Currently there are two day lines serving the airport and one night line.
The two day lines are from Modi'in to Nahariya through Tel Aviv, Haifa an a few other cities between them and the line from Jerusalem to Herzelia, that passes trough Tel Aviv.
The night train is an extension of the of the Jerusalem Herzelia line and currently it ends in Binyamina in the north. As electrification advance it will reach further north. Be aware that on nights between Thursdays and Wednesdays The line will start in Ben Gurion Airport and will not go to Jerusalem due to a weekly inspection of the tunnels leading to Jerusalem.

I have 2 additional questions. When buying an anonymous Rav Kav card as a tourist can you check your balance on the card in anyway? Also can you use Rav Kav on Egged buses? Thank you very much for your answer. Todah raba. ❤️

I’m considering this Ravco card but wanted to set up the move it app with the monthly option for my month long Israel trip
Can you pay for the 3 family members with move it or is it individually

I use the Rav Kav so I am not 100 % sure about Moovit. Anyway as far as I know it should be possible to validate for several passengers at a time after scanning the QR Code in a bus. Have a great stay in Israel!

Hello. Can the card be used to go from Jerusalem to Narareth? Is there a direct bus or train?

    • @AllanEland
      @AllanEland  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

You can use it to go to Nazareth. There is no train to Nazareth from Jerusalem. A direct bus is going at certain times as far as I know in the afternoon. Otherwise you need to change the bus. Best you download the Moovit App for free in the Playstore to check your options. Wish you a great trip!

Public transportstion only starts again on late Saturday evening. Download the Moovit App to see the times. Anyway you can take a cheap shared taxi on Saturday. Check my new video about the transport from Ben-Gurion to Tel Aviv.

Moovit is an app where you have to register and where the costs are debited once a month from your bank account.
