Mark...!! I believe you have truly earned a very good chance (if not the best) at the next NFF (Nordhavn film festival) - you have evolved into a good film maker, a James Knight of the N51, and a travel guide of the european Mediterranean coastlines with your excessive research, and a proficient drone pilot, and you mix all of this with everyday Nordhavn life on the waves and at the docks...and have - I believe - the best and most "seaworthy" trawler channel on TH-cam !!
Awesome footage. Made me feel like I was there and very envious of your experiences. Must make the hard work on the Waka worthwhile. Having never been to the Mediterranean I was ignorant of its beauty. Thanks Mark for your skilful efforts to share the experiences both on the boat and the places you visit.
Your drone footage is absolutely beautiful and we get such an interesting perspective that we would never see any other way! Hope you’re doing well on the solo part of your journey and Fiona as well on her adventure. Be well….till next time…….🙏
What great episode for the sour mood I'm in. So peaceful, soothing, almost luxurious. Well done Mark. A fine pilot you are for sure. From heavies to real light weights! Over the weekend it was my grandson's first birthday party. With everyone in a good mood I thought it might be a good time to tell them that I was negotiating for the catamaran in Portugal and might go there to look at the boat , if the survey and negotiations worked out. To a person, no one thought it was a good idea, In fact it was totally negative in every way possible. I was really shocked and taken aback. As a Royal Golden Shellback. ,I think I shouldn't be defensive but just stay calm,.....and carry on😀 It is a great boat.
I found this episode unexpected yet soothing and perfect for the mood I was in. My 1 year old grandson's birthday party was this weekend and I let the family know about bidding on the Cat in Portugal. I was taken back by the entire crew being on the side of - What? Are You Crazy?. I told them that I had bid low with the expectation of negotiating as I reviewed the survey, or had one done, to see if it was worth the trip to see it in person while it is getting routine maintenance in dry dock....... the perfect time to get a good look at it. Jeeze. I'm 72 but no where near death. I just got a new hip and can now walk without a pirate, gimpy, limp with a peg leg that I've had for the for last 20 years. Talk about a salty sailor who happens to be officially initiated into the Golden Domain as a Royal Shellback. I have to get to the bottom of what is bothering them. How's the peg leg stabilizer? Nordhavn's look so good on the water under a blue sly with some puffy clouds. Classic
Just saw the yacht buyer tour of the N51 - up to hull 18 now. No solar, no Bimini $2.2 million Euro ex vat. I’d say you did a great job with hull#1 and Oscan couldn’t be happier. You got a great deal. Well done
Yes we were very lucky. Inflation has been significant over the last 4 years of the project. Probably added 25% alone plus costs in Turkey have gone through the roof. Nice to know with a boat you would always get your money back.
Beautiful scenery along the coast….just curious if you need any special permits to fly the drone? I have seen other YT’ers mention it from time to time depending on where they are….
Those limestone cliffs are incredible! And such scenery. Wow. Postcard pictures everywhere you turn. Some drone tips: I've mentioned before that you need Neutral Density filters to reduce the super bright Med light. The drone camera is just too good at light gathering and it always blows out daytime video. And polarising filter to cut the reflections off the water. Try the Freewell Bright Day 4-pack NS/PL. Combines both in one. Be very careful about flying under 10m above water. The obstacle sensors are infra-red and water absorbs IR light so the drone gets confused and can do a forced landing and you are too close to override it in time. I always fly over water so I have floats. I can recover a lost drone to get a DJI replacement for $100 rather than 4x that for a flyaway replacement if it's not recoverable. I had one loss when a motor failed. Having the screen recording helped prove no fault to DJI. But the floats are in the prop wash, meaning it ends up pushing itself down a bit and shortening battery life. It's a risk/reward balance... I think you might have the video colour grading settings on the H.264/265 codec? The colours look washed out. For most users, turn that off and let the camera do everything in auto mode. The 'experts' will tell you that you have to use the codec and then buy their colour grading LUTS packs to post-process every bit of video to put the natural colour back. Pfft! Too much work. Look up Ted Nemeth's TH-cam channel for great simple cinematography and setting tips. For the jerking during pans: is your SD card fast enough? Samsung Evo is a good fast card. Is the frame rate too high? 30fps should be default unless you want to do slowmo. And pan slower. The video compression works by not bothering to record the details for every pixel in every frame if that pixel doesn't change from the previous frame. The faster you pan, the more pixels change from frame to frame, loading up the data to be saved to the card. Plus it makes the viewer a little seasick! Hope these ideas help. I'm looking to go to Spain in May (first time for this Aussie girl in Europe). All your footage makes me keen to get there are start seeing all that amazing history. Will be checking the drone laws and getting a Spanish permit...
Beautiful scenery. You have been busy with the new drone, great shots. Never have problems with the drone signal ? Which editing program you use for this one ? The one DJI offers ? How are you doing on your own ? Still managing ? More bad weather on the way to the Spanish coast this week. Take care.
Every now and then lose signal. If for long it just climbs and comes back. At that point you can intervene and send it on its way again. I use iMovie on my iPad. I am ok. Just had Renee and friend over for the weekend and another friend arriving next Sunday. Yip will watch the weather. Currently in Antibes.
My wife and I have twice spent week long vacations based in Amalfi. Did you realize that Cetara is famous for its world’s best preserved anchovies? Even if you’re not an anchovy fan, you would love pasta ALICI made with Cetara anchovy “sauce”. We enjoyed that in a wonderful Amalfi restaurant hidden in a courtyard behind the famous church at the town entrance square. If you’re still in Italy look for that dish in your next town.
Thanks Mark stunning drone footage - do you think being an ex pilot has helped? How are coping without Fiona? Hope your managing to keep it all clean! 😁
Hi Mark, Hope all is well! I managed to send you an email through the Nordhavn Dreamers site about the translate options for your phone. Hope it all makes sense when you read it! Des
It’s been good. Renee came to see me with a friend for the weekend which was really nice……in Nice! It’s strange some days are good some you can feel a little lonely. Once up and into the day it’s all good. Not having someone to talk things over with is the hardest.

Wow thank you. Just telling a story is the simplest way I think….worts and all!

It’s an amazing part of the world David

Thank you and I am doing fine. Just sent Renee and her friend back to London after having them for the weekend. Another friend arrives next Sunday
That was an amazing video Mark thank you.
Very welcome
Hard to believe that people live their whole lives perched up on the side of a cliff overlooking the ocean! Beautiful video!😊
Isn’t it just.
That was most enjoyable to watch, thanks Mark
Glad you enjoyed it

Yip that’s the best thing to do…but in the end follow your dreams. I have told my kids for the next 5 years I am being selfish…no apologies

Depends on the country. Italy is good but France crazy restrictive
Hi Mark, great drone footage, do you use filters to reduce glare, i seem to get a bit when i film on our boat, cheers
Nope just the normal, settings on the camera…not a techie when it comes to that
Stunning scenery . . And wow what great drone work . Very , very good . 👏👏
👍👋🇳🇿🍻twa
Ta Roger…fun to be back in the air. France not very drone friendly so may not get up much here

Thanks Mark stunning drone footage - do you think being an ex pilot has helped? How are coping without Fiona? Hope your managing to keep it all clean! 😁
Doing my best….no doubt there will be an inspection upon her return. Probably helps but they are pretty simple these days and generally forgiving.
Wonderfull video but we want to see you too. Enjoy
Oh you will it was just a step away from the normal to show off the Amalfi Coast from the air.
You r the best Captain
Great drone footage Mark, hope all is going well without Fiona. All the best 🥃🏴
I am doing well, miss her heaps but am ok. Thanks

Yip got it thanks. I have been using it where I can. It’s a great app.
Nice one Mark. Hows the first weeks going solo?

@@AwanuiNZ Good to hear. I talk to the boat :)
I knew there would be no Fiona, But no Mark and no boat? Not keen on the drone footage. Anyone could be doing it.
Yip they could have, just a distraction from the normal episodes.
