Honestly it's a step in the right direction compared to old mage items, now they look more like bruiser items where passives do the good stuff Now they need to balance those numbers
I think once they adjust Stormsurge we will be in a pretty ok spot - it's pretty much this item that is a BIG issue. Some other items may require a bit of adjusting, but they are nowhere near as problematic as Stormsurge.
First week of Season 2024 on PBE has been rough. Since at least Wednesday we have a game ruining bug - sadly still in the game. Quickplay has been extremely broken - picking a champion, choosing a role or inviting someone is an absolute pain... These 2 things are what makes testing extremely difficult and unpleasant right now. Many people are getting discouraged already. Let's hope this is addressed soon - so we can all have a properly tested Season 2024 experience.
I love finding bugs on the pbe but I agree can't play with friends and for me game crashes a lot too it's kinda discouraging but at least thank go's they let us test this things. Because if you remember on the video they made they said didn't want to put the new season on pbe early!
Played a normal game and had a Karthus who abused the bug with the ult CD (much wow) Tried an ARAM because I thought maybe it wouldn't work there.... In two ARAMs I had a Maokai, a Gangplank and a Rumble who abused it constantly. For me PBE is unplayable right now because people think they are SOOOOO funny
Items with extreme base damage and scalings so that every mage's spells are only as powerful as the effects they can trigger. Who could guess that'll produce some balance woes!

I'll be honest. AP items are so overtuned, so overtuned in fact that people, whenever I was playing support, my carries were picking Veigar and Ziggs instead of classic marksmen. Their items are busted to a point that it's literally bulying playing a mage anywhere. Karthus R would need to have it's damage halved if the items were to stay the way they are. Ziggs can literally bully adcs to death with a single item. Like... thank god for PBE, cause Riot would not be able to balance this on their own.

These are both heavy one shot characters on live servers because their ratios and survivability are high, same as fizz. All this does is make the other 80% of mages that are pretty trash fairly playable again. Stormsurge has a bit too much damage, but most of the items aren't crazy compared to other class items, especially considering pretty much all mage items lost all of their bonus HP.

@@Diopside. The issue isn't that the item is balanced or not, it's that it's bugged to give the maximum possible ult CDR. That's not a "balance team" issue, it's a coding issue
Most of the items won't come live this strong, it will be an another full month of testing. But most of the ppl surely complain about everything that is only on pbe.

i saw pekin woof oneshot someone wiht just zoe E. yes he was fed and yes it was against an ashe support but E did around 40% dmg ( he had companions so that was a lot of the dmg) and then stormsurge killed her...

some of these have been happening to me on the live server, so I'm wondering if they're shadow dropping some of the behind the scenes changes to the client.
The hexplate bug was funny the first 2 times, but soon every goddamn game of PBE has a karthus or sometimes ashe (or other global ults) and it got tiring pretty fast. Truly a RIOT GAMES moment.
Riot really learns nothing. When Night Harvester was released, it had a scaling of 125-250 (+15%) AP scaling. They had to nerf it because it was dealing too much damage. Stormsurge has the scaling of 100-200 (+50%) AP scaling. Yes, it's harder to proc, but that's clearly a lot more damage, especially when it procs after already dealing 35%+ of the target's health. Almost like a mini-Zed ult. And here I thought that power was going to be taken away from items and be more on the champions
Ok soo for entire video there are only mages items working as "intended" and some bugs. I Hope they nerf stromsurge to ground and this burn item a bit and LET'S GOO NEW SEASON

Try Nocturne ult with the new hextech item. Ult has a 15 sec cd, so basically the other team couldnt play cause it was dark all the time
When I saw that item it was quite obvious it is gonna be broken for Nocturne, Riot balance team is legitimately ascended for stupidity.

i saw pekin woof oneshot someone wiht just zoe E. yes he was fed and yes it was against an ashe support but E did around 40% dmg ( he had companions so that was a lot of the dmg) and then stormsurge killed her...

Erm, we wanted to make the game less snowballs again so we added a lot more damage to the game, erm you don’t have 200 years of experience for this complex game like we do
some of these have been happening to me on the live server, so I'm wondering if they're shadow dropping some of the behind the scenes changes to the client.

The hexplate bug was funny the first 2 times, but soon every goddamn game of PBE has a karthus or sometimes ashe (or other global ults) and it got tiring pretty fast. Truly a RIOT GAMES moment.
Riot really learns nothing. When Night Harvester was released, it had a scaling of 125-250 (+15%) AP scaling. They had to nerf it because it was dealing too much damage. Stormsurge has the scaling of 100-200 (+50%) AP scaling. Yes, it's harder to proc, but that's clearly a lot more damage, especially when it procs after already dealing 35%+ of the target's health. Almost like a mini-Zed ult. And here I thought that power was going to be taken away from items and be more on the champions
Considering the goal of an AP carry is to 100-0 people. Dealing 35% max hp really isn't that hard. It's almost guaranteed every time.
everyone on the game can oneshot already so mages doing it and being playable again is good, way better than adcs killing everyone with 3 autos LMAO
