Are Madisi Watercolors the same as Kuretake but more affordable?

You hit a wonderful point regarding the paper. I use Meeden paper for everything and it makes these student grade/beginner friendly paints go much further imo opinion! Paper first!

I really liked these. Checked with Lightwish-not vegan SIGH! But great customer service. Prompt, polite reply.

Great idea to use a colouring book as a starter, especially while on holiday!

Thanks, FaithAnn! It'll be a lot of work, but I think it'll be really rewarding.

I've been curious about Lightwish and this demonstration of their Madisi watercolors was very interesting. Thanks!

Your painting is beautiful! I love the transition between the mountain in the background to the one in the foreground!

The noises outside your camper were cracking me up, lol. Lovely video, those paints look fun. Like you I'm not hard to please with paint, and the paper is the key for me alot of the time. I love the meeden paper. Hope you're having a great trip 😊

I love how your moose's coat came out! You painted that with no reference? That's darn good! It's so interesting how western watercolorists have embraced the asian style watercolors and how well they can work for that. I wish I could find more on YT about the traditional use for sumi-e, which I think is most comparable to what we'd call "one stroke" painting here in the west. They load several colors on large brushes and make a few decisive strokes to portray a subject usually with no background. And of course they are painting on "rice paper" (actually made from mulberry) which is so totally different to our western style watercolor paper. Hope you've been having a great time, and I'm so glad you found a way to participate in World Watercolor Month that's easy while on vacation!

Thanks, Jenn! I would also be interested in seeing more of the one-stroke style of painting - it's fascinating.

I'd seen this set online, and was curious about it (tempted as well, lol). I really like the colour palette, espectially Brilliant Purple and Portrait Tone. The brushes really do look like natural hair! Your painting turned out really beautiful and I love how the mountains are so soft in the background.

    • @jennw6809
      @jennw6809 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yeah, Jay Allen Queseda reviewed this set and he also believed they are natural hair. Makes sense for the traditional use.

its great to see people trying other gansai paints. I use Yasu-tomo (a brand). I think Kuretake (the brand) took advantage of the English market not knowing any better and cornered the gansai paint market. I mean- smart and it worked! But when we look for products- we just get shown them.

These look nice, I added them to my list to keep an eye on. I only have the nouveau set of the kuretake so I could use the more traditional colors. Your painting looks great! I really like how you did the water distortions.

Hi, Miranda! Your 'noises off' gave me something I have missed since I've lived here: the daily sound of children playing!!! I've lived close to schools for years before, so yes, its something I have really missed in the last eight years! - and this sound is my second favourite sound of all (the first being birdsong). Hearing the dog enjoying his dinner was fun, too!
The different colours in the mountains: not sure how much you remember of school geography, but if you take a look at Geology Virtual trips, Canadian Rockies, it gives the answer to all the different colours (and is easy to read and has some lovely photos!).
I'm patting myself on the back (not an easy thing to do!!! 😄 ) because I almost got it right. I was thinking volcanic / plate movement, and the second was the right answer. (Does that sound like showing off? It isn't meant to be! Just I have an insatiable curiosity for all sorts of things, and am always asking the "Why???" of things.)
The paints look as though they fit the 'fun' in their description, and it was lovely to hear the pleasure in your voice as you played with them, and the moose + mountains + some sort of water hole was fun, too.
Hope you keep safe and have your phones set up for local alerts so you don't have to worry about all the other things nature is throwing at us these days.(Ok, yes, of course you do! You live with this sort of thing all the time, but Mother Hen syndrome just _will_ kick in at times!)
    🤗😊

I think all the sounds of children playing and life happening would be one of the reasons I sometimes wouldn't mind living in town. We live pretty remotely right now and it's lovely and peaceful, but you just can't beat the sound of life going on around you, so I know what you mean! There are some really interesting geologic features in Canada. Bends and curves in the mountains that are just astounding. It's beautiful. I'm safely back home now and we left Jasper just in time, thank goodness. But it's devastating. Hugs.

@@MirandaWatsonArt So glad that you are home , that you had some gloriosu experiences - and that you left Jasper just in time! Yes, from all I've seen online, it was, and still is, horrific!
I think I wouldn't like to live in a place where I didn't have human contact, if only sounds / sight of people passing by. I lived in a small-ish village for 30 years before moving here, and the school was within hearing distance at playtime. I miss that here, but still have neighbours who are friendly.
I'm on the edge of town, with the river between us and the main town, in a quiet cul-de-sac on the side of the steep valley. I am glad. The town's in the loop of the river, and being medievil, the town's closely packed. In this extreme hot weather, it'd be unbearable to live there.
I'm looking forward to watching your new video once I've prepped dinner!

Thank you - we left just in time. I was devastated when I saw the pictures from the fire. Places we visited and parked next to and enjoyed are now all gone. I'm grateful I was able to see it before-hand but it sure is sad.

I absolutley CANNOT STAND when companiers make a “watercolor activity book” with paper that is very clearly horrible for watercolor. The entire book becomes usless at thqat point becasue if i wanted to have to copy eerything inrto a sketchbook I wouldnt have purchased the activity book.
i have never foiund a watercolor book with appropriate oar, EVER. I rerally dont believe they exist anymore

Miranda, are you all safe from the wildfires? I don't know if you have posted on Instagram, but a lot of us don't have accounts there, so please, can you let us know?
(I've tried several times to set up an account, simply so that I can see what my YT friends are posting, but for some reason, the system keeps refusing me!
