James may be the most ruthless chaser I’ve seen on the American version. You know what they say, the student has become the master

That’s the thing about setting a fairly low target - you give the chasers time to think so that they don’t have to rush into every answer and can achieve a clean sweep like that with relative ease. James only clocked in at *11.39 q/min* this final.
Once you start hitting 20+ (or 25+ on the Israeli version), that’s when the chasers start to trip over themselves and it becomes easier to get into a wrong-answer spiral by rushing into answers.

Thinking won't work if the chaser doesn't know the correct answer

They don't "set a target"; they answer questions and try to get as many as possible.

@@eliasshakkour2904 Which in turn sets the “target”, or score, that the chaser has to match. It’s common final chase terminology.
In any case, it’s the exact same principle - if you don’t answer enough questions correctly on your side, then the chaser doesn’t need much to match it, so they can take their time and not rush into answers.

@@T6448_P2 Yes, I knew what you meant, but “setting a target” doesn’t sound right in this context. It sounds like they’re intentionally choosing a number of questions for the chaser to answer correctly. I’ve watched many final chases and I’ve never heard anyone speak of the contestants “setting a target.”

@@eliasshakkour2904 Bradley’s line before every modern final chase on the UK version is “Let’s _set a target_ he/she cannot catch”.
Looking at it again, I also see where you’re coming from; I’ve just been using terminology that I’ve seen many people adopt-viewers, contestants, and personnel alike.
