For those of us wanting to practice the Fokos, but not wanting to spend hundreds of dollars on a training tool, I found an item that is working as a useful simulator for me. Cold Steel makes an axe headed cane that is 38 inches long and weighs right at two lbs. I'm posting this here in case anyone else goes down this path and encounters the same problem that I did finding tools.

HEY GENTS! I'm the guy in the video and just want to put out a caveat -- this was filmed for Yuriy, and contains some caveats that aren't on the video (b/c we were teaching). The back-of-haft moves are from folk dance, and are things you CAN do when you're closed in on and your other likely option is "you get rekt." They are NOT intended to be primary go-to blocks against a guy with a blade. For that, use the head to block or hook or slap like Csaba taught, it's MUUUUCH safer.

This is a dance from hungary. At 19 cent, the fokos get prohibited. So, they hide the head in clothing, and show handle as stick :) th-cam.com/video/m1A7Vr0WxxI/w-d-xo.html

Feel free to put up more techniques. You have several people (including me) intrigued by the fokos.

I can confirm that we still fight our tax collectors like this.
You think it's a nice video about history.. but it's a how not to pay taxes 101.

This is accurate. We, Magyars (Hungarians) used fokos like this. A great weapon.

Anybody have any HEMA tips with a Bartok axe? Any thing to sparr with? Any guides other than this one and folk dances?

Yes, there are multiple books about traditional folk style usage of the fokos written by the members of the Felvidék Baranta (now Dalia) school. They are written in hungarian language, but the books contain plenty of photos. You can get in connection with them on the following facebook page:

I’m from the forests of Pennsylvania and
I’m pretty fond of spirals too. This video is
making me feel especially fond of Ukrainians.
BTW. My property taxes just doubled. Where did
you say I could get one of those? 😁👍❤️

These are old Hungarian fighting techniques. Has nothing to do with our Ukrainian friends. ;)

Late to reply, but the budget version is mounting a tomahawk on a walking stick. They can be remarkably similar.
