As the American population continues to age, this should become a standard among them. I wish more people would research and teach these elderly citizens about this.
This weapon is used for more than 3 and half millenia now and they used it in every possible way, they used on horse back and on foot, they used against unarmored and armored people, they used it against shield and used it against sword and fokos. It is probably in the best possible form today.

I feel like a short, downward facing guard, just bellow the axe head, would add a bit more defensive and offensive capability.
