This video means a lot to me. My mom’s Sindhi-her family carried stories of Jhulelal and Partition across continents-and my dad’s from the Bhil tribe in MP, where his ancestors’ bond with the land runs deep. Growing up, our home was this quiet blend of Dal Pakwan and Bhil folk tales at bedtime.
It’s funny how both sides of my family share this unspoken rule: *adapt, but never forget*. Sindhis rebuilding lives in Bombay slums or Ghana, Bhils preserving ancient art and rituals-it’s all about holding onto who you are, even when the world tries to erase it.

Hi Mohak! As a Sindhi Hindu, this video was an emotionally taxing one for many reasons. Heartfelt gratitude to you and your team for highlighting your wife's roots and our community's history to the world ❤ Fun Fact: Once my Java teacher (a humble Gujarati person) told us that the guy who worked with Larry Page, Sergey Brin establish Google was Rajeev Motwani, a Sindhi guy. Our disconnect with the land is so real. Not many Indian communities can fathom what is it like to lose touch with your roots. We Sindhis just start to assimilate with the local people, be it states of MH, GJ, RJ or countries like USA, UK, UAE, Hong Kong. Only recently I have learnt the Perso-Arabic script which you talked about in the video. Last but not the least, when Shaneez told she couldn't recognize the Sindh of today to be her ancestral land, it is the most disheartening thing. Religious extremism has changed how Muslims view other minorities in Pakistan.

My mum’s grandmother was forced to flee Shikarpur, Pakistan, after unimaginable violence. Her father was shot dead in his utensils shop, leaving her and her elder sister with no choice but to escape. They boarded a ship from Karachi to Bombay, leaving behind their mother and everything they had ever known.
Eventually, they found refuge in Udaipur, Rajasthan, where they started their lives from scratch. She later married my mum’s grandfather, who himself had fled from Quetta. Together, they endured every hardship, working tirelessly to ensure their children had stability, education, and a future they never had.
Even decades later, my mum’s grandmother would have tears in her eyes whenever she spoke of her homeland. The first-generation Indian Sindhis carried their pain with quiet strength, building everything from nothing-so their future generations wouldn’t have to.

Hey mohak this made me emotional because finally someone is addressing this issue that Sindhi culture is dying at an unprecedented rate. People I talk to don’t want to speak Sindhi and my heart shrinks hearing that.
I hear the stories of my grandfather and father of How the daily needs were met of the family those were just heart breaking as they had to sell “pav”. My mom used to work in a candle factory in which they used to pack the packets of candle on which they got the salary.
Keeping the culture alive ahead would be a mammoth task for all of us.

I’ve heard these stories from my grandparents..how they had to leave everything behind in Pakistan just to survive and the immense struggles they faced after coming to India. It’s heartbreaking to hear about their hardships but at the same time it fills me with pride to see how our community has always risen stronger after every setback.

Our voices are not heard resources are not properly allocated, for eg our new year CHETI CHAND has NOT been recognized as a holiday so just imagine not able to practice Pongal, Gudi Padwa or such other festivals, does that make sense but yes we sindhis go through this every year.

@PrashantUpadhyay-v5e also to add our appeal for a DD sindhi channel is in the court since decades. Can you imagine , we have to fight for just a DD Sindhi through court no government is considering such issues. We would provide crores of funds to Maldives, Sri Lanka, Turkey but our own community is left to suffer for such small amounts.

Hey Mohak, Heartiest thanks for covering this topic. I've grown up hearing stories of my great grandmothers jewels being snatched by mobs in Karachis and our factories in Hyderabad, Sukur and Shikarpur being burnt. My grandparents left by steamers from Karachi and we've been in Mumbai for 2 generations. I'd highly recommend the book by Mark Anthony Falzon and The Amil Lohana's by Sazz Agarwal to learn Sindhi History. Loved the video!

this is a sweeping revision of history, mostly based on just one perspective. But there were many perspectives throughout the history of Muslim-Hindu Sindh.

Either you die, or you convert or you leave. It's been to us, it's been to Punjabi, Kashmiri and Bengali Hindus as well. But it's not over yet, the challenges we faced have not completely disappeared. The evil elements of society are still there who want to divide us Hindus. If we want to survive then we must stay united! Proud to be a Sindhi Hindu. Jai Jhulelal ❤🚩

Hi Mohak. Just like you introduced Sindhi culture, you should also introduce Kalal (Kalwar, Suwalka) community. Because I am a Kalal, my grandfather used Kalal as surname, but I and my father use Suwalka as surname and I don't know the reason and I also want to know about the roots of my culture. I just know that Kalal community used to make Alcoholic drinks
