I think Belle perfect balance of the grace of Aurora and the headstrong-ness of Ariel, theres a certain maturity and dignity to Belle that I admire.

You’re so right, it’s about enriching the princess genre not changing them just for the sake of change itself. Beautifully done.

Beauty and the Beast is such a remarkable film. Not only in terms of story, but the animation is just so astounding. The sequence of the beast turning into the prince is SO beautiful. I remember watching the 2017 remake and being incredibly disappointed in the Be our guest sequence because I had the animated scene in my head, and the "live action" (well, CGI) one just pales in comparison. Ironically, the animated movie feels much more *alive* than the live action one.

Beauty and the Beast is the only time I remember Disney showed REAL love. Not a teenage crush (to me that's what for example Little Mermaid quite looked)
The moment when Beast despite all his selfishness and circumstances chose to let Belle go because he loves her, when he wants to make her happy. And after that Belle chose him too. And also how much Belle loves her dad. That's what people aren't showed enough i think.

Even watching this as a little girl I always thought that the dance sequence looked exactly like Sleeping Beauty, which is my favorite Disney princess. It wasn't until I was older, probably within the last couple of years actually that I realized that that is the final dance sequence from Sleeping Beauty. I thought that was awesome that it was a call back to my favorite Disney movie

you hit the nail right on the head! this film was truly a landmark in the princess genre, and i'd even argue it defines disney's renaissance era even more than the little mermaid does! here's to hoping that in between all these soulless, cashgrabbing, live action remakes we can get something breathtaking that is as much of a masterpiece as beauty and the beast is, and that makes the genre richer just as this film did back in '91. if not from disney then from another studio. i just want my sense of wonder back, but i refuse to lose hope that i'll get it.

Although The Lion King is considered by many as a masterpiece, and maybe a few of their films since, I personally place Beauty and the Beast as the last Disney masterpiece. Quite frankly, The Lion King was the last Disney renaissance film I watched. I lost interest due to Lion King and didn't watch anything else until Toy Story. Cars and Cars 2 then killed my interest again and nothing Disney has done since, aside from Force Awakens and Rogue One, has held my interest in returning to Disney.

Love this video, thank you for sharing. I agree, no need to adapt a beautiful story just to be "politically correct". This is my favourite Disney princess film, and Belle is by far my favourite princess. I actually see all of these women as needing their men, but I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. At the same time, totally agree that Belle proves hersel.
I think one damel who doesn't get enough credit is Esmeralda from the Hunchback of Notre Dame who is my second fave even though she doesn't make it in the princess list.

She found loved by a beast
Dancing with him in the ballroom

Beauty and the Beast was such a phenomenon and went on to gain a Best Picture nomination (well deserved.)
