Please God help me to concentrate on my transformation after hearing you and how that touches others.

I've spoken with three ladies who were baptized Catholic but have converted to being Protestant "born again". I asked them why. Their reply is: there was no Bible study in their Parish. This is sad. I'm trying my best to help return to the Catholic Church because they are missing out on the sacraments that are being imparted by authority.

Thank you Fr. Mike and all at Ascension press. The catechism and Bible in a year podcasts are invaluable in educating and informing all Catholics. My experience as a catholic growing up and throughout my life even now in my late forties in Ireland is that religious education stopped when I finished school. A lot of the problem with Catholicism today is that the majority of Christians don't know enough about our faith to confidently speak up and offer counter arguments or insights when we are faced with issues relating to our world today. Ask the majority of church goers when they come out after Mass what was their understanding of what was contained in the scriptures and many might struggle to provide a concise response. Yes the abuse scandals have seriously damaged the church, but there is so many people in search of meaning in their lives. Catholics need to be educated to support our priests and religious to renew the church and go in search of the lost sheep. Wouldn't it be such a blessing if every pastoral area offered adult education classes on the Catechism and the Bible as an educational platform that could also then lead on to theology and scripture studies. Sorry about the long comment but I just love my Catholic faith and all we are being thought and I have just such a zeal to know and discover more, God bless you all.

      Paul.
I completely agree with you..Having growing up in Ireland and not taught the joy of the Faith was such a loss..
.Have lived in Canada for years.. The same problem there.
Home now for a break and going to Medijugorge today with old.friends..I still see very little joy on people’s faces still at Mass here.,and very few genuflect anymore..What hurts me most is using sanitizer on the Consecrated body of Christ at Communion..Something just used for external purposes and turn we swallow it..😩🥺😢
God is charge and I believe things will improve again.Blessings on your day.☘️🙏☕️

Thank you for the early upload, Fr. Mike! For those not aware, in every description of every video there is a quick summary such as this one:
"We continue our examination of the First Commandment, unpacking irreligion and atheism. Fr. Mike highlights the different elements of irreligion, namely tempting God in words or deeds, sacrilege, and simony. He emphasizes that the sin of tempting God is easy to fall into when we are deeply troubled or afraid. Fr. Mike also spends time unpacking the many different aspects of atheism, and its impact on our world today. Today’s readings are Catechism paragraphs 2118-2126."
If you look right under the video where it says the number of views and when it was uploaded, there's a "...more". If you click that, you'll see it!
Hope this is helpful for note takers or helpful for reading before watching/listening! Thanks again!
Thank you so much Fr. Mike, Ascension Presents, and everyone here for your spiritual and financial support. Hope you and yours have a light-filled, joyful good day!

Makes me wonder how many Catholics here are hearing most of this for the very first time. One cannot teach the faith that has never been explained to them. Personally sometimes I feel like I’m in the crosshairs between thinking I am a good practicing Catholic and being a Catholic who simply does t know what the church actually teaches. I’m learning a lot that calls me out on how limited my knowledge really is. And I attended allCatholic schools, worked with CCD while bringing up my children in the faith yet so much never divulged until now. Thank you for this.

You are part of God’s delivery system of hope. You are a courier of his covenant. Yet you have your share of foibles and flaws. So “God is at work in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13 RSV). We are the bent timber; he’s the carpenter.
Rather than grumble about the people who irritate you, see them for what they are-God’s training tool. He is teaching you to trust him. At some point someone, somewhere is going to boil your blood. He or she may not be a true scoundrel, but even those closest to you will let an insult fly now and again. The temptation is to retaliate. Don’t give in. Don’t fight the scoundrel on scoundrel terms. Respond to the scoundrel with faith in God. Remember, God never gives up on you.

Thank you for exploring these important and difficult things that put believers against the world. Humans believe that they did all and it's up to them to do it all alone. Both are like children or a life partner wanting to do things alone despite the other person willing to help. We indeed need to give permission to God to love us. He is always there for us but the atheists refuse to recognize Him and also ignore all the evidence presented to them about God and Jesus. Simony as buying and selling of salvation or blessings is indeed bad and diminishes the image of the Church as well as it's like putting a price on God's grace and also making it look like you need money to get God's grace. Who are we to do it? Like Fr. Mike said- freely we get from God and freely shall we give. Pop culture has indeed made sacrilege look as a non serious sin but it is indeed worthy of studying to not do it. I agree with Fr. Mike. We must be mindful of priests and others who depend on charity and the gifts, thus, we must give to them as if we are giving to the Church's sustenance and their livelihood. We must detach from the feeling of pride after giving to Church or being religious. The final part hits hard! We must live in God and not just believe. We must not be fearful and we must profess our faith by saying thanks to God and not doubting Him at times. Not putting Him to the test. Instead of a practical atheist, we must live as true followers of Christ. Thank you for your work, Fr Mike and Team Ascension. I'm praying for you and for the fellow listeners. God bless

Amen Father! I have witnessed this (offerings for the Sacraments) go both ways. The one whose pastor professed that nobody will ever be charged for a baptism, wedding, or a funeral flourished. In our former parish (a very large and well-to-do parish), ne of the first things the new pastor did was increase the FEE - not donation - for wedding (from $350 to $500). Sadly, but not surprisingly, that once healthy and vibrant parish is falling apart.

Thank you Father Mike for being such an inspiration! I am part of an amazing Catholic Church and regarding weddings and other Sacraments, they always state whatever you can give. This is how I thought it went at every Catholic Church. Why is it that some Catholic churches that I personally know of are charging $3,000.00 to hold a wedding there??? Honestly what average person can afford that and how can a church do that?

Irreligion is evidenced in tempting God by word or deed; in sacrilege, which profanes sacred persons or sacred things, above all the Eucharist; and in simony which involves the buying or selling of spiritual things.
Atheism rejects the existence of God, founded on a false conception of human autonomy
The commandment "You shall not have other gods before me" forbids Irreligion and Atheism.

  • @glenapereira3492

We cannot put God to the test even when we're desperate, as it is a sin. We receive spiritual gifts from God who is the Giver, so we must not buy them. Stipends are necessary to provide for the needs of the clergy and not for the sacraments they offer on our behalf.
There are atheists maybe because we have not witnessed to the love of God in the way we should. This is so humbling as it is my fault😢. So we have to keep learning about our Faith, God and religion to be able to reveal, proclaim and live it in the world. Let us not be 'practical atheists'.

    Q:
What would the difference be between church teaching & Bible teaching.
I have heard many non catholics say this. They think the church makes up these rules we follow & it's not really from Jesus' teaching. What is a good way to respond to this. It's frustrating.
It may be off topic but, when Father says church teachings I always think about this.

And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’
Then the righteous will answer him and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?
When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’
And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’
Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,
stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.’
Then they will answer and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?’
He will answer them, ‘Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.’ And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

    Please pray with me.
According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory:
    Eternal Father,
I offer You the most precious blood
    of thy Divine Son, Jesus,
in union with the Masses said
    throughout the world today,
for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory,
    for sinners everywhere,
for sinners in the universal Church,
for those in my own home,
    and in my family. Amen.
In her account of another vision, St. Faustina describes Purgatory as a "great crowd of suffering souls" undergoing purification. Further, she says that the souls are "praying fervently, but to no avail, for themselves; only we can come to their aid" (Diary, 20)
Father I need your grace again because I am not the witness I want to be.

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion - inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your Holy Will, which is Love and Mercy itself. Amen.

James 2:19 ...You say you believe, you do well. The devils also believe and tremble...(paraphrase). The difference? A faith that results in a new heart and a new life, renewed by the power of His Sprit, and that is apparent in our behavior. How can one know Christ and not be changed? 🙏💖

Although protestant and mormon communion is only a 'symbol' of the body and blood of Jesus Christ, it is still blessed and sanctified (setting it apart for a special purpose).
Then the 'left over' bread and water or grape juice, representing Jesus, is unceremoniously thrown into the trash or poured down the drain after the Sunday service ends. Seems like that is profaning or treating unworthily the sacraments.

    • @loubee8503
      @loubee8503 ปีที่แล้ว +5

If that occurred in a Catholic church, I would agree. However, since the Protestant pastor is not of the line reaching back to the apostles, the bread and wine (grape juice) HASN'T gone through consubstantiation, and therefore is NOT the body, soul nor divinity of our Lord.
I agree, though - it seems wrong to treat something that was "blessed" with such disrespect.

    • @johns1834
      @johns1834 ปีที่แล้ว

@@loubee8503 My point exactly. After something, anything, is blessed and sanctified, it should be treated with more respect. This is especially true in regard to Mormons, who carefully remove the 'freemason' symbols from their sacred garments (underwear) before disposal.

  • @americanliberal09
    @americanliberal09 ปีที่แล้ว

Irreligion is not synonymous with atheism, because it just means that you don't belong to any particular religion. However, an irreligious person can still be a "theist". That's it.
