True story: Joe Dart was created in the Ann Arbor bassment by Dr Bassenstein from a metronome, one of Jaco Pastorius' strings, and a pair of Wayfarers.
Being at that concert in NY and signing along to Dean Town with thousands of other Vulf fans was amazing. The tickets were a gift from my wife and were totally unexpected.
I had the same experience, except one of my wife’s childhood friends is very close with the owner of MSG… so I got to experience the show from the owner’s suite.
The fact that Joe is playing in his basement simultaneously to Theo and Jack playing onstage is proof of quantum entanglement stronger than Joe's neck.

This is bringing back such a great recent memory of mine! What is even more awesome than the fact that they even played it was that Cory said he had "a friend" attending that show and he wanted to see/hear it from the prospective of the audience for the first time. Well those words obviously meant that it had to be a member of the Vulfpeck, and since I was way up high in the balcony, I could see a certain figure that greatly resembled Jack Stratton hanging out on stage-left during the show! It just made me so happy that Jack got to witness Dean Town from the audience perspective (and yes, we were absolutely singing along!) for the first time. I truly must be something amazing to have your audience not only embrace your music so much, but to also sing along not to lyrics, but to the actual freaking music itself, must be kind of mind blowing as a musician up on stage!
So yesterday I turned on my old Sony Ericsson W810i. First I checked the low quality photos from my gallery, then the music which I had carefully put on it all those years ago, at a time when each MB was precious. I stumbled upon Vulfpeck's "My First Car" and I just couldn't stop listening to it even though it was coming from the tiny speakers of the W810i. I haven't been listening to them for years and little did I know that already on the next day a new video of them would pop up on TH-cam.
It's not easy to play a song so well live that you can match it up to the recording. Even if you sped up or slowed down the live video to match, there would be noticeable timing differences and tempo fluctuations throughout in, I'm sure, the vast majority of other bands. The fact that these two audio tracks match up this well is incredible
I'm going to write an essay on the parallels between the processes of Steve Reich and Jack Stratton because the two are so clearly interested in achieving the same end whilst going about it in different ways
I couldn’t figure which video you adjusted to quantize with the other one but I realized it was the Ann Arbor video you quantized to the MSG video. Excellent job, Jack!
This is tough work. If they don't play to a click live or in the recording, which I would expect they would not, then he had to constantly adjust the tempo ever so slightly to match these two puppies. I am very grateful for this marvellous work. To this day I always make sure to rave in the kitchen whilest listening to 'Sound Of Two // Cory Henry and Bernard Purdie'. Arrgghh... saw the new video up and had to listen to this song again... so good... now it's going to be stuck in my head for a week AGAIN... not such a bad thing though.
Eeeeh, don't get me wrong the song is good and all, but it's not much more than a groovy as hell bass, basic 16th note drum beat, basic 16th note funk rhythm guitar that occasionally plays the same as the bass, and some chords played on the piano, comparatively to a lot of other music it doesn't actually take that much synchronicity or precision, just musicians that actually practice their music. You can go watch Felix pastorius and Julius pastorius' tribute to their dad Jaco Pastorius (the bassist which this song is a tribute to) if you want to see synchronicity and precision, wooo god damn, and even then you can find other examples of even greater synchronicity and precision in stupidity like John Zorn's Naked City, which is chaotic jazz.

It is comparativly quite basic, which is fine, i mean in general, there really isn't much difference in playing basic music and complicated music synchronized and with precision, it's what we do as musicians, but using Dean town as an example of synchronicity and precision Eeeeeeh, i mean, Teen Town which this song is a tribute of, is waaay more complicated, rhythmically and melodically, there are just better examples really.
You can actually visualize that the MSG version is exactly 20% faster by watching how the basement video was played faster to catch up with the live one
