This week was especially bittersweet, when picking up Batman Year One Artist's Edition and wishing Ed were here to gush over the beautiful presentation and line work. Miss you, Ed!
I'm really looking forward to this Artist's Edition. But more than the actual book, I was excited to see you both review it. Rest in Power, Ed. Take it easy, Jim.
Why doesn't IDW make a promo vid like this for every Artist Editon?? Even for a book as small as Herb Trimpe's Hulk, just bring in a credible Hulkhead or artist to describe what an influence Trimpe's work was for the character and show some slow pans of the coolest pages. There's no way it wouldn't boost sales
Can't wait for this. And a Mazzucchelli interview would be a dream come true. I'd even loan you guys my signed Rubber Blanket 1-3 to go through if that would help make it happen.
The floppy reprints they did recently on uncoated paper with the original colors were interesting. To see the old color system printed with current technology/paper was informative for all the makers out there! Don’t sleep on that Absolute Edition, either! 🔥✒️🖤🖋️🔥
I have a few versions of Year One. I am definitely looking forward to this. I wish we could get a Mazzucelli or Mignola page by page commentary on the book.
When I was a kid I haunted my local comics shop for a year straight thinking that this would be the week that I’d go to that Batman back issues long box and that issue 408 of Year One would magically appear. My brain refused to accept that the story had ended the way it had for a real long time.
I know they made a year two. But it would be awesome to get the same people to come and do a proper year two and continue the story. But only if they're not washed up :)
@peybak actually, there is potential evidence that the series did in fact get cut short; if you look at the very first original ads for it, it says coming soon ‘Year One’ and ‘Year Two’. True story.
I had know idea the Red Room was so crazy and inventive! It’s shocking, disturbing and it’s something that might be happening or will eventually happen… great job!
You spelled his name incorrectly, it's "the Great Mike Mignola", acceptable alternate spellings are "the Legendary Mike MIgnola" and "the Awesome Mike Mignola".
RIP, thanks so much for what you've given to the culture of comics.

FYI Mignola also has a gallery show this year in NYC. Philippe Labaune Gallery, 9/20-10/26. Catalog has scans of original work.
RIP Ed.

Very keen for this to start.
What a great analysis of this legendary series. Cannot wait.
Def need the shoot interviews with all the major players involved in this.
In for a tour of those shelves behind Mignola! This book is going to be great.

Cannot wait for this book to come out!
They're really pushing it with the prices for these things here in Europe. $190!
I’m praying for your soul and your family, Ed. Goodbye.

Batman Year One, were my introduction to comic books and comics collecting.
Word of the day: "MARGINALIA"!
My no 1 awaited book this year.
3:00 to skip all the noise and get to the interview!
Nice. Don't wait a decade to put out the artisan edition.
❤
So ready.
Where is the link to the Batman Year One Artist edition ?
Yeah, where is it??
Awesome!

My heart sunk for a second! Haha
Learning how to pronounce artists names after all these years.
Nice
All four books of 'Batman Year One were released as facsimile versions this year (2024), and is an inexpensive way of getting the story as floppies...
Who knew this would be the last episode of cartoonist kayfabe 😅
