A much better film of what happened than one I just watched here on TH-cam. This shows what the recovery was like, not trying to make it sensational like the other one.
Apparently, the roller has now been repaired. A contributor on the Unofficial Mamod (modelsteam) forum said he had been driving it in May of this year (2014).

Or he could put some TIRES AND BRAKES on the piece of shit so it isn't a big steel sled sliding down any slick surface like a hard street after rain. Or maybe it was just worn out old junk and should be where worn out old junk is supposed to go instead of on public roads and busy streets it wasn't designed for. I su

Lets see. We've got an antique piece of construction equipment made to BUILD ROADS AND STREETS and not to OPERATE ON THEM that was put on a steep, wet city street where its wide, smooth steel wheels have no traction on a good day, was probably modified to make it faster and therefore "better for a use it was never designed for in the first place and we put an overgrown child who loves to play with his toys in public and gets praised for doing so because he's "preserving history" by "restoring" old junk with fancy paint and operating it on public roads. I can’t understand why you would say such thing, if you have such a problem then why don’t you go out and buy everyone some rubbers so they can operate safer and whilst your at it a new personality may sort out your attitude towards steam, as you clearly do not like road steam preservation. Why would you watch a video just to put such a rude comment about many peoples passion? Calling history ‘old junk’ is typical of a light minded person you clearly are.

@@deeremeyer1753 Actually it is designed for Streets and roads, it's A ROAD ROLLER. And also it has brakes.
I like steam engines and rollers and it is expecally nice to see the father his son and his grandson all involved with the steam roller.

the guy is awesome i crew this roller a lot
Why did it crash? I thought maybe the brakes failed. I reckon most normal house or pub walls would have had the front of that roller in their lounge!
malcolm norfolk i belive it might have been a impatient twat pulling out in front of them
A car pulled out in front and the steam roller swerved to bot flatten the car and then what you see now takes place

Those crane chains look far too small for that load they were very lucky they held.
Divide the load between each.
Poor George

What a sad sight, it isn't as if the owner can nip down to 'Eurocar parts' for spares!
A little tig welding and blending with a solder surface hidden behind some cleaver turn of the century style decorations and good as new.
It got a new cast head stock and is up and running again.
That sucks

FFS. This is why we colonized Malaysia. Get some rubber tyres.
You can't put tires on it
Rubber tyres on a steam roller?!!??!
